  1. Surprised? I'm surprised that you're surprised! This is a fan for rock and metal fans and while Queen were a rock band, they had a very commercial/light/poppy sound. They sure do have that commercial poppy sound, but that's only the visible part of the iceberg; i guess you must not be familiar with the hidden part, the old albums, the songs that were not on the Greatest hits collection, the hidden gems for the die hard fans;there are lots of treasures to be found in their music, that are not commercial or light/poppy at all; in fact, believe me,Queen were much more "extreme"(from a "heavy metal pioneering " point of view) for their time, than Queensryche ever was .In fact, i'm pretty much sure that Geoff Tate(who is a big Queen fan btw) would totally agree with that statement. You may well be right, but this is all about personal tastes. For what it's worth, Queensryche is not one of my favourite bands, I just prefer them to Queen. I would far rather be listening to Testament, Overkill, Death, Bolt Thrower and countless others to either band. I'm not slating Queen, they just don't interest me. I understand your point of view, but i don't share it. As a heavy metal lover, i consider that it's very important to be interested in the foundations of this music:of course the holy trinity(Black Sabbath,Deep Purple,Led Zeppelin),"the fathers of heavy metal"; but also other important bands from that period, like Budgie,Blue Oyster Cult,Alice Cooper,Uriah Heep,...and Queen, finally. Conclusion:the first 4 Queen albums(Queen I,Queen II,Sheer Heart Attack,A Night at the Opera) are essential listenings and must have(s) to anyone interested in early heavy metal/hard rock.
  2. Walls of Jericho,Alice in Hell,Doomsday for the Deceiver and Spreading the Disease are obvious classics, albums that every metalhead should own. Refuge Denied is a hidden gem, a great album, and as far as i'm concerned, the best thing Warell Dane ever did. Schizophrenia and Pleasures of the Flesh are great thrash albums, highly recommended for all thrashers. War Games is a shitty album, that still has that old school german underground metal charm, with a helluva lot of broken english; this one is for the german old school power metal completists. The other two albums, i haven't heard. I voted Walls of Jericho, obviously the most influential album from the list; and beside that,it's a great album.
  3. "1987" sure is a departure from the old school Whitesnake, but what about the Leps and their Hysteria? The change is even more dramatic when you compare it with High&Dry, don't you think?
  4. 1.Guns'n'fuckin Roses 2.White Lion 3.Dokken 4.KISS 5.Whitesnake/Y&T/Great White Never been a big fan of Hysteria;i think Def Leppard peaked with High&Dry.
  5. For US: 1.Dio 2.Trouble 3.Slayer 4.Fates Warning 5.Anthrax/Twisted Sister/Dokken For Europe/UK/Canada: 1.Destruction 2.Mercyful Fate 3.Iron Maiden 4.Pretty Maids 5.Malmsteen/Accept/Dio

  7. I have to say i'm really surprised with the results of this poll; i'm a huge heavy metal maniac, and i consider Queensryche one of the very best US heavy metal bands, but let's be serious for one second:there's just NO WAY they can stand against Queen. They(Queen) are legends, their music transcends genres, they are the only band i know that can switch with such ease from heavy metal to disco-pop,from prog rock to glam rock, from opera to hard rock, and to do it with such class.Freddie Mercury is the greatest voice in rock, period;Brian May is easily among the top 5 of the most legendary hard rock axemen. And do i really have to mention that live, they were the most grandiose and over the top performers ever?
  8. LAGuns over WASP by a tiny bit The Last Command over Cocked and Loaded, also by a tiny bit Hollywood Vampires over Inside the Electric Circus Headless Children is a great album but i have yet to hear Vicious Circle. Haven't heard the other ones.
  9. Voted for The Legacy, their best album, hands down; followed by Practice what you preach and The New Order.
  10. 1.Iron Maiden 2.Iced Earth 3.Impelliterri 4.Icon 5.Iron Saviour
  11. I think the exact opposite: new Exodus(with the new guy on vocals) is a total disgrace to my ears, while Impact Is Imminent is a very underatted album; even Force of Habit which was considered a disapointing album back in 92, is still a masterpiece when compared to new Exodus. And also, i can't stand Tobbias Sammet as a singer and as a frontman(although Edguy has some catchy stuff in their repertoire).
  12. Just like the B letter poll, it happens that most of the bands in the list are bands i've never heard about. But where are the Crimson Glory, Candlemass, Coroner, Alice Cooper, Cirith Ungol,Carcass,Celtic Frost, etc? Anyway, there are 3 bands that i know from the list:Cinderella, Cheap Trick and of course, Cannibal Corpse. Cinderella easily gets my vote, as it's one of my favorite hard rock bands, and their 4 studio albums are flawless, imo. Cheap Trick comes second, their first three albums are very good power pop/punk/70s hard rock albums; i haven't heard the rest of their massive discography. Finally CC are fun, and they are a very solid live band. I don't like that much their early incarnation with Chris Barnes behind the mic, but there are several albums from the George Corpsegrinder Fisher era(like The Wretched Spawn or Bloodthirst) that i occasionally give a spin.
  13. Wow! Most of the bands in this list are bands i never heard about.the only ones i know are Bad Company,Bon Jovi, Bonfire and Britny Fox. Bad Company gets my vote, as i love the first 3 albums with paul Rodgers, and also think the 2 albums with Brian Howe that i own(Dangerous age and Holy Water) are good slabs of classy AOR. Bon Jovi would be my second favorite: all their albums up to These Days are very good, and crush and Bounce are ok; i haven't heard the most recent ones. Bonfire comes third; Fireworks and Point Blank are very good easy listening 80s melodic metal; and that's all i've heard from them. Britny Fox, i only heard their 1st album, and i think it's decent sleazy hard rock, but nothing to write home about. By the way, why bands like Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult,Bathory, Bad English, Boston, Blue Murder didn't make the list?
  14. Voted for the great second MSG offering; but let's be serious: a lot of great stuff is missing from the list. I'm talking about Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Saxon, Accept, Black Sabbath, Kiss, Thin Lizzy, Rainbow, Raven, Riot,Krokus,Triumph. And the list goes on...
  15. Tonight Wild Side Kickstart My Heart And Theatre is my favorite of the three.
  16. Voted Vince Neil, but Harem Scarem, Poison, Gotthard, Winger, Aerosmith and MrBig released also strong albums in 93.Nobody mentioned Spaghetti Incident....maybe because you guys despise that album.
  17. Nevermore sounds much too modern to my years , and i can't stand modern metal.I find it also too depressing; metal is about having a good time and being glorious and ballsy in my book...
  18. Sanctuary and Refuge Denied. I really can't stand Nevermore.
  19. Endless Pain Old school raw german thrash metal rules!
  20. Phantom Lord Trapped Under Ice Leper Messiah Dyers Eve Holier Than Thou
  21. Actually i personally think there's too much love for Warrant compared to what i think it deserves:Cherry Pie is second only to High'n'Dry in number of votes, and at equality with Shout At The Devil;imo, it doesn't deserve such a privilege; and no way in hell is it better than Tooth & Nail or Open Up...at least,imo... Tooth and Nail is a good rocking album but doesnt really have the hooks. People might not like Warrant that much but the truth is that Cherry Pie has amazing hooks in those songs and it was light years ahead of the debut...at least, imo :-)) I can agree that Cherry Pie is better than the debut; nevertheless, Warrant is in my opinion a lesser band than the other bands included in the list.
  22. 1.Van Halen-Balance 2.Skid Row-Subhuman Race 3.Ozzy-Ozzmosis 4.Bon Jovi-These Days 5.ACDC-Ballbreaker Also like: Slash's Snakepit-It's 5 o Clock Somewhere Motorhead-Sacrifice Ugly Kid Joe-Menace To Sobriety Iron Maiden-The X Factor Queen-Made In Heaven
