Biggest Changes in Style

Has there been a bigger change in style than Shotgun Messiah from Second Coming (1991) to Violent New Breed (1993)?

Same with Deep Purple with average vocalist, Rod Evans  to a powerhouse vocalist, Ian Gillan

That was certainly a big change from psychedelic stuff to the birth of hard rock/metal.

Yep. Could be a whole other thread on bands that went from good to crap.

Dangerous Toys...from Pissed to the R.Tist 4.Merly Known As............at least they were aware of the major change hence the name of the last release....

One that leapt to mind and because they were local to me and saw them in all their incarnations and at this house party or that show back in the day is Alice in Chains. They went from Faster Pussycat/Hanoi Rocks flavored to super heavy as we all know. Layne's voice still sends shivers. RIP Layne and Mike.

AIC closed every show it seemed with either Suffragette City or Hanoi's Taxi Driver and during those it was always a who's who of local musicians onstage singing backups (including your truly). 

I had a tape that had these songs and King of the Cats but someone lifted it back in 1990 ish, seems it was a blend of both of these comps, but no We Die Young as that wasn't a song yet, but I do remember when they started playing and when they recorded a demo of We Die Young when I was at the Art Institute.

Queen of the Rodeo was always a fun and favorite.

I reckon you could take 6 songs off rtist and easily put them on Pissed without missing a beat, just the other songs on the album that were a bit different.

"We Die Young" has always been a huge favourite of mine.

"Stone Sour" do a Killer version.

Not far removed from the original, but with a little bit more oomph.

Gun's an interesting one.  The telephone number album terrible because of that but then they learned their lesson.

First Status Quo album very very different from what they became. 
 

Genesis changed multiple times. 

Whitesnake's move from a blues band to more glam in 87.

Nope. for me they just evolved rather than changed.
Same with most bands.
I mean Kokus changed more than Europe, but that was just an evolution as well.

I think someone like Bret Michaels fits this thread better. He did that country album.
