STEVE RILEY's Version Of L.A. GUNS Signs With GOLDEN ROBOT RECORDS; New Album Due In The Spring

Steve Riley's version of L.A. GUNS has inked a deal with Golden Robot Records. The band will enter the studio later this month to record a new album for a tentative spring 2020 release.

In other news, Riley's L.A. GUNS has signed with New Breed Management and the Bigg Time Entertainment Inc. booking agency.

The group said in a statement: "We are very grateful for this opportunity and we want to thank you all for your support throughout the years. Also we are looking forward to seeing you all on tour in 2020."

This version of L.A. GUNS made its live debut this past May at the M3 Rock Festival. The drummer is joined in the group by Orlando, Florida-based guitarist/vocalist Kurt Frohlich, bassist Kelly Nickels (a member of L.A. GUNS' "classic" incarnation) and guitarist Scott Griffin (who played bass for the band from 2007 until 2009, and then again from 2011 to 2014).

M3 was the first time ever that an L.A. GUNS performance did not feature singer Phil Lewis or guitarist Tracii Guns, who are currently playing together in their own version of the band.

A dozen years ago, Frohlich was recruited to front a second incarnation of FASTER PUSSYCAT by three of the group's original members, who were unhappy with both the musical direction of the band and singer Taime Downe's "drunk and erratic performances." At the time, bassist Eric Stacy said that the Frohlich-fronted FASTER PUSSYCAT would perform the band's songs "the way they were written and recorded."

Soon after a European tour in the spring of 2007, the second version of FASTER PUSSYCAT disbanded. The Downe-fronted version of the group continues to tour regularly to this day.

Frohlich has also played with Marky Ramone and a group called THE UNDERGROUND REBELS. He performs acoustically in the greater Orlando area on a regular basis.

Riley is the longest-tenured member of L.A. GUNS, a group he joined shortly before the release of their 1988 self-titled debut. (While he is pictured on the album, he did not actually perform on it.) Although the band has famously featured more than 50 members in its ranks through the years, with the exception of a two-year period in the early 1990s, Riley was the sole constant from 1987 until the end of 2016, when the group that he and Lewis managed to keep alive for nearly 15 years without founding guitarist Guns (who quit the band in 2002, on the eve of the release of their acclaimed album "Waking The Dead") dissolved. Since then, Lewis and Guns — who, after years of acrimony, buried the hatchet in 2016 — have forged ahead as L.A. GUNS while Riley focused on other projects.

The Guns-Lewis version of L.A. GUNS released a new album, "The Devil You Know", in March via Frontiers Music Srl.

Yeah that Sykes release has been getting released for years...wouldn't mind hearing these guys either and their raw approach sound.

I'd be interested to hear it, but it's sad they can't get along with Phil and Tracii and have four of the original members together again.

I enjoyed the album Tales from the Strip with Phil, Steve and Stacey Blades.  But without both Phil and Tracii this time around I have a hard time even associating this with the L.A. Guns band name.  We'll see, not sure what to expect, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

They were surprisingly good at M3 last year.

From FaceBook

We did it...!!!🎙 recorded a whole album in 7 days, with only 2 days of pre-production. Mixing and Mastering this week....6 plane flights, sleeping on couches and no heat...rock n roll... 😜🎸 This really was a band effort and we can’t wait for you all to hear it...but you’re gonna have too...2020’s gonna rock

An album written and recorded this quickly does not give me high hopes of quality, especially with the label they are on as well.

Whoever wrote this article needs to do some fact checking.

He left the band/was fired back in 91/92 and was replaced by Bones, and does not appear on the Cuts EP (other than two slightly older tracks) or Vicious circle.

While it is true that he is the longest tenured member as he returned  to the band for the atrocious American Hardcore in 1996, saying he has been the sole constant from 1987 is wrong.

The singer for this version of L.A. Guns previously sang in the second Taime Downe-less version of Faster Pussycat.

part of me thinks its hypocritical of Tracii considering what he did after he left, but I really do not blame him.

Riley was not even on the original album other than his picture, and somehow managed to weasel co-ownership of the name.

With L.A. Guns, I'm not sure why you care about the name anymore. There has already been so many versions of it already. Why not another one.

I just hate 2 of them touring at once. Very confusing because you don't know what version you're getting.

I am positive that 95% of the audience at M3 thought it was Phil/Tracii version of L.A. Guns scheduled to play  and not Steve Riley's version. But admittedly, Steve's version delivered the goods just fine. Surprisingly good.

You would think on a tour it would show who you are getting.

Yea I would not like that either.

What pisses you off is if you clicked the hyper link of L.A. Guns, it doesn't take you to Steve's L.A. Guns page, it takes you to Phil and Tracie's!

Is this the first time two offshoots of the same band have released albums with different lineups under the exact same name? I mean, we still knew JR's Great White was separate from Great White, right?  Stranger than fiction for certain.

Regarding the album; does it have to sound exactly like Guns on guitar and Lewis on vocals to find credibility since they call themselves LA Guns? Or can it stand on its own merits based on the songwriting and vocal delivery of Frohlich alone?

OW! My brain hurts!
