One of Sweden’s legacy melodic rock acts HOUSE OF SHAKIRA are ready to deliver the best serving of Sour Grapes you’ve ever been fed.

Keeping the momentum going since lead singer Andreas Novak joined the band, Sour Grapes is the band’s third since Andreas’ 2012 debut. And as like the last album, the band has taken things to the next level, with more harmonies, more chorus hooks and more layers of everything….including for the very first time – keyboards!

Says frontman Andreas Novak: "A witty bio-update would be nice...just really can't figure out what...it’s the same line-up...Feel free to improvise on that one, Andrew - it doesn't even have to be true, just as long as it's good."

Label CEO Andrew McNeice: "Following Andreas’ instructions, I’d like to claim that owning Sour Grapes will improve your standing with the opposite sex; it will cure you of any hangover; playing it loud to your neighbors will indeed boost your reputation as the coolest person in the street and best of all, buying a CD will infinitely increase the riches of the band and the record label, allowing us all to retire that little bit sooner to the tropical island we have put a deposit on.”

House Of Shakira are a Swedish rock formed by guitarists Mats Hallstensson and Anders Lundström that started out in Stockholm around 1991 under the moniker The Station. The mid 1990's saw the band change their name to House of Shakira, named after a London bordello.

In their 25 year history the band has released seven previous studio albums, all of which have left their mark, making the band one of Sweden's best known musical exports as well as hometown heroes. Their famed debut album "Lint" remains a genre classic.

The House Of Shakira line-up of Mats Hallstensson (guitars), Anders Lundström (guitars), Andreas Novak (vocals) and the blistering rhythm section of Basse Blyberg (bass) and Martin Larsson (drums) locked themselves away in the studio, in what’s become a ritual designed to produce more glorious Scandinavian melodies.

Following the albums “House Of Shakira" and "Pay To Play"; the brilliant new “Sour Grapes” will be released worldwide via MelodicRock Records/Cargo Records on CD August 26 and via digital outlets two weeks later on September 9.

Legacy act? ...wow is it that long since the debut (1997!!!), must admit I lost interest after the third album. Even with Lint I preferred the tracks that were out previous to it that appeared on various samplers around the time (Frontiers mag?) rather than the reworked versions that appeared on Lint. Saw them at the Gods though and they were pretty good.

Huh... I thought they were defunct.

 

Thought... or hoped? Not to be harsh, but these guys just haven't seemed relevant for a long time. I preferred their earlier stuff too, but in all honesty they never had a full album in them, ever. Some really great individual songs along the way, but far too inconsistent to have ever been a really good band.

 

New songs here are all weak as piss.

Weak as piss eh? The last album sold out first pressing and new one is on track to repeat.

 

In all honesty, their last album was their most consistent, imo, but all of their better songs are on their first albums. The reason those ones don't rate well is because there's as much shit as there is greatness.

 

Anyway, good luck to the guys and if they have a strong fan base I am honestly and genuinely happy for them, and wish them all the success in the world.

 

But yeah, to me, those songs are weak as piss. Not a decent hook or melody amongst the three.

If I had to describe them, I'd say this is what Gunshine would sound like if they went in a more southern rock direction.  Here are some of my favorite tracks... Crossroads   Whiskey & Weed   Holy Water   Mississippi Hippie   Heroes   Bonnie & Clyde   Rockin' Into the Night (38 Special cover)   "Crossroads" and "Heroes" are probably my two faves.  *I will give a word of warning:  if you decide to purchase any of their discs, they are barebones releases with just the CD in a cardboard slipcase. I enjoy the music enough that that's not an issue for me though.  @lettard @KarpetRydOFunk @tts42572 @AlphaMale @Dead Planet @Mr.AOR @tobi is an animal I think all of you gentlemen should give these guys a listen and see what you think.

      Saw these guys first time a couple of years ago, when they were 16-17 years old, they are absolutely awesome. They have been touring for a few years now, performing their own songs, yet haven't released anything, until now. I have tickets to see them this saturday, opening for Mercenary.       My Japan copy showed up today. I was critical of the Part I album as that one just did very little for me.  Basically, I just didn't think the songs were all that catchy and/or memorable.  I played that album a handful of times trying to get into it and gave up rather quickly which was disappointing as I loved Wired.  Maybe I just had too high of expectations or something.  I know many liked that album but for me at least, that Megalomanium I album would be ranked toward the bottom of their discography. Well, after hearing this new one, I'm feeling the opposite....Here I feel like they nailed it and I'm digging this one after the first listen.  I basically couldn't wait to start it over and listen again. The first 5 songs just come out guns a blazing with catchy, hook filled songs.  Yeah, we've heard 4 of those songs as singles but I almost purposely haven't listened to those songs much so they'd still sound fresh when the album dropped.  Then the one song we hadn't heard, All I Want, is just another upbeat, catchy tune. The 2nd half though is where things probably get more interesting.  Songs like Dive Into You and To Say Goodbye are the kinds of varied balladish/mid-tempo type songs I've been wanting Eclipse to mix things up with and there's 2 of those songs here, both very well done IMO.  Then there's a couple heavier tunes like Divide & Conquer and One In A Million that sound like stuff that could've been on Bleed & Scream.  And then a couple other melodic rockers with Until the War is Over and Pieces. I also feel like this has some of the better lyrics that Eclipse has had in awhile.  I think a lot of their material recently has been just been sort of lighter subject matter, 3 minute "simplistic" romps.  I felt Part I had a lot of that which kind of contributed to it being less interesting.  Here though, it seems like some of these songs get a bit deeper and can feel more emotion in songs like Still My Hero, Dive Into You and To Say Goodbye for example.   Anyways, where Part I is among my least favorite Eclipse albums, I'd say my early impression of Part II is that it'll be among my favorite Eclipse albums.
