Listened to this a few times, now, and if the rest of the album is anything like this, it'll be a great follow-up!

Wow that is a hell of an improvement from the debut. I should pay attention to Glen :)

Yes you should ;-)

The second album is amazing imo and the 3rd will be even better.

I still have not just on the wagon for these guys. Just like Vega and Work Of Art, not for me at all.

But you rated Savage Playground higher than We Don't Belong so your opinion doesn't count ;-)

Here are my ratings for the first and second albums.

Life Love Loss

BOD - 8.25 - Good rocker to start

Arms of Misery - 7.5 - Good, but chorus hook could be stronger

A Little Bit - 9.25 - back on track with a killer melodic rocker

Captured by the Moment - 8.5 - very credible Perry cover

Just Imagine - 9 - excellent uptempo rocker

Story of Life - 9 - another very cool rocker with a great chorus

Human Being - 6 - weal link....OK, but average for these guys

Colour Me - 7 - decent melodic rocker

Catch the Feeling - 8.5 - another very nice rocker

Keep me Alive - 9.5 - my fav. Great hook

My Fall - 8.75 - another very cool song

By Your Side - 7 - melancholy ballad to end

Overall 82%

We Dont Belong

Black Cat - 8.5 - love this song, great start

What If - 9.5 - stunning melodic rocker

In The The Ride - 9 - excellent harmonies in that chorus, love it

Inside of Me - 8.25 - very good - another strong chorus

Follow Her - 8.5 - very good sweeping ballad

Blind Hearted - 9 - killer rocker. Excellent chorus

Here I am - 9 - great ballad / medium paced

Access Denied - 9.5 - super catchy

Coming Home - 8.5 - the cool songs continue....another nice chorus

We Dont Belong - 8.5 - atmospheric number - works very well live

Just Another Heartache - 9 - cool rocker to end

Overall 88%

Fully expect the new album to probably better this by another 5-6% so will probably land 93/94%

I like it when a band improves album on album - it's pretty unusual.

Also production wise these albums are amazing and put most others in this genre to shame.

Great vocalist and excellent live.

Full package.

:D

so says the guy who often mistaken the best song with the filler and 88% is one way to overrate an album mate lol I guess 78-79% will be fine

yeah i think i gave Crashdiet's 'Savage' almost the same, maybe slightly better at 80%, overall an enjoyable album with patchy production and if Crashdiet's low performance is equal to Degreed's best, that clearly says that Crashdiet is playing in a higher league and definitely a better band

Mate, there's nothing patchy about it at all. It's shit from start to end, and all the bits inbetween.

To weigh in on this Degreed discussion, the proper rating for the two Degreed albums so far is this:

1. We Don't Belong - 2013 - 82

2. Life | Love | Loss - 2010 - 78

I'm also hoping they better their 2nd album again and (realistically) produce something I'd rate in the mid 80's. I believe it is achievable, though I'm not sure it'll happen. Looking forward to trying it out.

Im betting that youve spun that 2nd disc about 4 times to achieve that rating.

I was probably at about 82% after a few spins but it just gets better and better and 2 yrs on, I love the album.

The newie will eclipse it though...........am expecting big things judging by the samples.

Yeah, it was the same for me. too. Took a while, and then it just clicked. So much of what I like depends on my mood and my expectations going into my first listen. And so many albums I wrote off years ago, I've gone back to and love.

Ever since i saw them live the albums have been on pretty much constant rotation.

Cant wait to add a third :-)

I wish I had the opportunity.

i'm predicting around 82-83% for this third album based on Glen's rave, a natural positive progression from the first two,

but if Kill Your Darlings is the weakest according to Glen, then I'm afraid the truth might be the contrary judging by Glen's poor judgement lately :D

I like both albums but didn't find them anywhere near as good as what your ratings suggest. Good solid band and will give the new disc some attention but they are a bit overrated imo.

    • Pretty solid for what it is, but sadly, no killer track for me. The title track and 'King Of The Dead' and 'Taste Your Tongue' are my favourites, but none of this will be on my 2022 playlist.
    • All in all it's a pretty decent album. First two songs and the tasty 'Say Farewell' are my picks of the lot, but everything on here's pretty solid. Biggest critique would probably be that it's all pretty similar and one-dimensional. But it's a pretty solid dimension.
    • I guess this one's okay in places. Some cool metallic riffs here and there but overall not overly exciting. Solid for what it is, and I imagine Sword die-hards will probably dig it.
    • Yeah, I was reading your list thinking that I was happy for you that you were that invested in your favourite albums this year. The albums in my list are far better than those, lol but I'm not sure I'm quite as passionate about them as you are about your top 10. Not sure, I say, as I will wait until the end of the year to see how my penned thoughts end up.  Anyway, I'm going to check out this VHS Collection thing tomorrow to see what that's all about. Otherwise, of your list, that Iron Allies one must be the curveball of the year, surely. Cannot for the life of me personally see what you see in that, but to each one's own, and glad you dig.
    • Well I love my top 10 and it was basically impossible separating them. All killer albums imo.
    • Pretty crazy, what's going on in China at the moment. Thank goodness you'd never see something like that happen in Austra- oh. Uh, as you were. There must be plenty of videos like this out and about at the moment-
    • Haha, a couple of you guys keeping pretty quiet about changed minds on synthwave, after being pretty vocal about how terrible it is/was? I must say, I never got into the dark synth stuff like Dance With The Dead... more for the fact that I need vocals with the synthwave I really dig. I've actually heard a few dark synth bands this year I've passed on, with vocals, that I wonder if there'd be interest in here? Just gotta try to remember who they were...  As for the best of the year, not sure what to make of this year. There's an absolute tonne of good to very good albums, but when I look at the top end I'm not exactly blown away by any amazing albums. Good ones, and a lot of really excellent songs this year... but my highest rated album this year is 82%... which is a good album, but nothing looks like even threatening the 90% mark this year, which seems extremely unusual. The best of last year, for instance, seems a lot better than the best of this year. Still, I can't complain as there's been a lot of good music... just not as many great entire albums.
    • Another band ruined by frontiers.
    • Yeah, sad news. Even though she was a quiet achiever in that group with Stevie getting most of the attention, she sings Lead on two of my favourite "Fleetwood Mac" tracks. "Little Lies" is a Killer. R.I.P.
