AOR - Return To L.A (March 23)

10451176_946860168681144_484425605266292

Frédéric Slama s AOR all star project is back March 23rd with album n° 14th bringing AOR to new heights with the help of legendaries producers Paul Sabu & Tommy Denander. The new AOR album is called "Return To L.A" and features some legendary singers like Jesse Damon (Silent Rage, Kiss), Tommy Funderburk (King Of Hearts, Airplay), Paul Sabu (Only Child, Kidd Glove), Rick Riso, Bob Harris (Axe, Steve Vai), Erika (Yngwie Malmsteen), Sarah & Mélissa Fontaine (Chasing Violets) & many more."Return To L.A" is for fans of the heavier side of AOR in the vein of Survivor, Foreigner, Giant, Journey & Toto. An Aor dream for Melodic Rock lovers ! Not to be missed !

The title of all their albums just blur together, I'm sure they've already used Return to L.A. before.

My God, I never in a million years thought that this thread would reach 12 pages by February!!

Just shows how flooded the genre is with bog average releases......I doubt I'll end up buying many more than 15 of the albums in this thread.

To a degree, it is the reason I ignore most new stuff until the year end lists. There is too much music. Too much great music I haven't had a chance to listen to. So I can't be bothered with nonsense.

I'm predicting melodic rock has reached its peak in 2014 and in the next 3 years we'll see a decline in our genre because like you all said, too many average releases and too many old bands trying to make come back only to release crappy newie

I'm intrigued to start a massive project of rating everything from 1980 all the way to 2014 and counting each year's top 100 to see how many albums in the 90% territory and 80-89%, and also below 70% to judge which is really the best year and the worst year :D

Yeah, I've had it in my head that if I ever get my ratings complete, I'd like to take the average score from each top 50 or 100 and see which years were the best for music. I still think 1988-1992 has it hands down.

Anyway, couldn't agree more about the amount of shit releases and I'd say probably 11 and 1/2 pages on this thread are of bands I am not interested in.

I've been trying to keep a tally in my head as the year progresses aof how many worthwhile releases have been released so far. So far, at the end of February, imo, there are only 5 releases worth hearing - Care Of Night, Eclipse, Issa, Revolution Saints and Papa Roach. The rest? They just shouldn't have bothered.

To me that's plenty. That actually allows for proper digestion of each album.

The whole Bonfire thing still pisses me off. David Reece has no business singing on their new album. I don't even want to hear it now. If it were Claus, I'd be all over it, even though their output over the years has been less than stellar. You can't just replace a guy that sang with the band for 30 damn years.

I like David Reece but this just angers me to no end.

    • No Doubt - It's My Life (2003)/Talk Talk - It's My Life (1984). I had absolutely no idea that this track by "No Doubt" was a cover.

I wonder if this means a return to the project's original synthwave style?

    • New song 'Siren Song'. From Frontiers: Seventh Crystal, who stormed on the melodic rock scene in 2021 since their stunning debut album "Delirium", have announced the release of their third full-length, "Entity". Seventh Crystal took everything up a major level (or two, really), "Entity" sees the bands exploring and expanding different genres, bringing their melodic rock formula, to progressive rock fields, sometimes little heavier and back to their unique rock style. Seventh Crystal is a melodic hard rock band from Gothenburg formed by Kristian Fyhr in 2019. What started as a solo project by Kristian quickly grew into a larger endeavor when Johan Älvsång and Olof Gadd joined the project. Shortly after, Anton Roos and Emil Dornerus also joined the band, completing the initial lineup. In 2020 the band signed a deal with Frontiers Records and released their debut album "Delirium" in 2021, which made waves all around the world. Due to the guitar-heavy parts on the album, the band realized they needed one more guitarist to be able to perform the songs live. Gustav Linde, an old friend of Anton Roos, took on the job, and the band began to work on their slightly more guitar-oriented follow-up album "Wonderland." The album "Wonderland" was released in 2023 alongside the EP "Infinity," establishing the band as an act to be reckoned with. During the fall, Johan Älvsång decided to step aside, and the band continued as a five-piece into the recordings of a third album. Drawing inspiration from a variety of genres, from soft rock to hard-hitting heavy metal, Seventh Crystal showcases a diverse range of musical expression. The band aims to be authentic and serve as an inspiration, outlet, and escape for their audience. Their sound is characterized by bombastic productions, catchy hooks, and dramatic and emotional melodies. TRACKLIST: 1. Oathbreaker 2. Thirteen to One 3. 404 4. Path of the Absurd 5. Architects of Light 6. Interlude 7. Blinded by the Light 8. Siren Song 9. Versus 10. Mayflower 11. Push Comes to Shove 12. A Place Called Home 13. Song Of The Brave
