Bands that reformed : Studs and Duds

Recommended Posts

I was just thinking the other day about making this thread. Now this is intended to be for bands that were broken up for at least 10 years. I am looking for bands that reformed and released an excellent cd and ones that released a pile of crap.

The great ones:

Lizzy Borden - Deal With The Devil

Europe - Start From The Dark

Tyketto - Dig In Deep

Trixter - New Audio Machine

Tesla - Into The Now

Rhino Bucket - And Then It Got Ugly

The awful ones:

Cry Wolf - 2010

Shark Island - Gathering Of The Faithful

Julliet - Psycho Boyfriend

Lillian Axe - Water's Rising

Winger - IV

Hard to think of many bands that absolutely called it quits for ten whole years before jumping back into the pool. Some of these may not fit your criteria exactly, but . . .

Stud:

Van Halen (original DLR version) - Different Kind of Truth

Mr. Big (original Gilbert version) - What If

Baby Animals - This Is Not The End

Hanoi Rocks - Twelve Steps on the Rocks

Dud:

KISS (original Ace & Peter version) - Psycho Circus (wotta disappointment)

Tyketto - Dig In Deep (Sorry, gotta disagree with you on that one, Alpha -- didn't work for me at all)

Humble Pie - Back On Track (Without Marriott it really ain't The Pie)

This is kind of hard-because some bands just haven't put out new material in over ten years, some bands come back after over ten years but a have a new line up. Are you counting these 2 examples?

King Kobra - stud

Different style than original KK, but still good.

How about the two versions of Sabbath?

Heaven and Hell's album was SUPERB, but the newie from three quarters of the 'classic' line up is HUGELY disappointing ...

Agreed,s/t was awesome & im still wrappin my ears around II but its still soundin great :)

Winger - IV was a stud in my book.

another nod for IV here...although Karma was far superior imho :)

Stud:

Ratt-Infestation

Trixter-New Audio Machine

Tora Tora-Revolution Day

Giant-III

Tom Keifer-The Way Life Goes...(ok its solo but as close to new cinderella cd as we may ever get?)

Dud:

Tyketto-Dig In Deep...(terrible imho)

Xyz-Letter To God...(just nowhere near the classic debut or indeed excellent Hungry)

Cry Wolf-2010...(wtf!!!)

J.K.Northrup-Wired In The Skin....(wheres the guy that did his s/t & work with King Kobra?)

on the fence with:

Valentine-Soul Salvation...(some great points but also so forgettable points also)

Warpdrive-Something To Believe In...(still wrapping my ears around it)

I disagree with Tyketto being a dud, all though I don't think it's (great), I do think it's very good.

  • 2 weeks later...

Am I obviously the only one here who only just found out about the Cry Wolf album when looking at this thread. I have truly never even heard of the existence of this '2010' disc a couple of you guys mentioned. How on earth did I miss that?? Just had a look on the main page - the cover is awful and it just looks like it'd be awful. Still can't believe I never heard about it, though...

For the record, I'd agree with Ratt's 'Infestation' and Tesla's 'Into the now' and that's about it in this thread. :(

Well not exactly meeting the thread criteria but comeback albums I enjoyed (at least 5 yr break) were -

Loverboy - Just Getting Started

Ratt - Infestation

Whitesnake - Good To Be Bad

Beggars & Thieves - We Are The Broken Hearted

Treat - Coup De Garce

Unruly Child - Worlds Collide

Vain - Enough Rope

Shy - S/T

Those that didnt fair so well (imho) -

Banglaore Choir - Cadence (decent enough but too many average tracks)

Cry Wolf - 2010 (just not good)

Van Halen - Different Kind Of Truth (not for me)

Mr Big - What If ( a moment or 2 of brilliance, but overall disappointing)

For 2014

I predict THE massive comeback will be Harem Scarem! Expecting a HUGE disc from these guys

Cheers
