I have only ever owned Power Play on vinyl and ended up getting rid of that as well.....

Have not heard anything else they have done because Power Play did not excite me at all.

Don't know much about them besides the tune "Just between me a You" that I had on a old compilation.

I will learn more about them soon with them being at Dakota Rock Fest.

Great song Wes off The Nature Of The Beast album

Good band indeed. I saw them at the very first monsters of rock gig all those years ago (Harder , Faster..' was out then I think). My fave is 'Nature Of The Beast' followed by 'Harder, Faster..' and 'First Glance' is pretty good aswell. This is one band I am after updating my old vinyls, so I am on the look out for other stuff at the moment.

Don't kid yourself matey ;)

I remember all that gig Very well, Touch were good, so glad I got to see them live as I think they never came over here again (I may be wrong), Riot were ok, April Wine were pretty good, although all of these earlier bands only had short sets, so you were just getting into them and they finished, Saxon rocked the place and were excellent and one of my bands of the day, Judas Priest were really good aswell, Rainbow not so good and the Scorps was the only time I have stilll got to see them - they were great aswell.

That`s a great lineup, probably one of the best ever Monsters Of Rock line ups!

i've seen them nuerous times over the years but not since Jim Clench has left the band (recently).

I really liked "Attitude".. It had some hard rockin tunes and a killer ballad "Can't take another night".

don't know if someone could link it here or not..Unfortunately, I'm not able.

Most recent release was kind of bluesy.

I have all their studio releases. They can play it heavy when they want, but tend to mellow out way too much. Favorite tracks are: One More Time, Oowatanite, Enough Is Enough, Cum Hear The Band, Electric Jewels, Just Between You And Me, and Crash And Burn.

Haven't heard April Wine in a very long time, but I remember seeing the vid for "Sign of the Gypsy Queen" quite often in the very early days of MTV.

  • 2 years later...

I have been trying to pick up every April Wine cd I've been finding. I never really gave them a chance until I bought Nature of the Beast and I was hooked. Total kick ass album. I also love Stand Back ("Oowatanite" is one of my favorite April Wine tracks). Harder...Faster is great as well. Animal Grace was one of the few of their albums I remember not really caring for.

    • I've enjoyed a few recent releases from these guys but gotta admit I was a bit underwhelmed by this. 'Attracted To Danger' was my favourite track but for me it falls short of at least the album two releases back. I think the last one was a bit lukewarm for me too. Okay for what it is.
    • Haha, I have actually used that one a bit, cob. You think it makes a big difference? Always so hard to tell which prompts land and which don't when you use 10 or so prompts. But I'll be sure to keep that one up front, though. And play with it tonight.  I used the "big production" one again last night and songs were definitely crisper than the night before when a lot of my results were very "treble-y" for lack of a better term. So big production and big drums up high in the mix tonight.  Anyway, peaks and troughs. I'm going through a passage where I'm penning a whole bunch of new tracks. I do a lot of driving, but also a quite a bit of walking for my job, and I've got in the habit of jotting stuff down in my Notes app whenever something comes to me as I walk around, and trying to pump out a few new tunes. A few by-the-numbers melodic rock tracks mostly, but I got one yesterday and I really loved the outcome. A bit of a more "random" tune, but I'll be cursed if I don't actually quite like how this one came out; https://suno.com/song/885e4b14-3e08-45cf-8e33-d2e1cfd04e42
    • I have to agree sadly.  I've said it before, but Steve's passing showed that Gotthard were basically a Steve Lee backing band.
    • I guess this is a bit of a Gotthard appreciation thread now. Their debut is the best for me (I was lucky enough to own this when it was first released). Followed closely behind by the others mentioned.  Here's three of my favourites from the debut. "Angel" was the first Gotthard song I heard and was blown away by. "Firedance" is a Killer with a Killer guitar solo featuring guest guitarist Vivian Campbell and "Hush" is the first in their long line of great cover tracks.
    • This is the correct answer. With Steve, I assume, is what you mean.
    • Domino Effect, Lipservice, and Need to Believe were the last with Steve, and are all quite different. G. is my favourite album of theirs. The debut and Dial Hard are pretty much the exact same sound, but I could only pick one, because they asked for five suggestions. ;}
    • Geoff, you'll love the prompt 'big drums'. Right up your street. Give it a go.
    • although I am a huge fan of Dial Hard also.
