"Pyromania" on the other hand represents the watershed moment when Mutt Lang took over and began molding the Leps into a gooey pile of indistinguishable harmonies and softly distorted guitars.

Now, if the debate is who would you rather have in your band, Pete Willis and Steve Clark (RIP) or Phil Collen and Viv Campbell...well, is that even a debate? (Pete Willis is da man!) :headbanger:

come on, you know Mutt was on board for High n Dry and started to mold them back then.

'On through the night' - One of the worst albums I've ever heard, by any band... ever.

'High N' Dry' - solid hard rock, but in the bottom 3 original Def Leppard albums for me. Solid but unspectacular / average.

'Pyromania' - their first truly great album. A f*cking superb disc, if you ask me. Close to flawless melodic hard rock.

So yeah, definitely the first choice for me.

To each his own but how the heck can Pyromania be flawless but High N Dry be average?

One is melodic hard rock bliss, the other is a higher quality standard of pub rock than most others. But it's still just a pretty average brand of rock. Just done well. :)

PYROMANIA is definitely a Great Pop Metal CD.

HYSTERIA, however, is overrated wimp rock, as is virtually everything they've released since.

There, I said it. I got a crash helmet on so do your worst. :bigboom:

 I couldn't have said it better myself...

'Hysteria' is an awesome album and 'Retroactive' (1993, well post-'Pyromania') remains their finest and ballsiest album of all.

Mutt also did AC/DC's "Highway to Hell" showing that he could produce a ballsy, hard rock album, which is essentially what "High 'N' Dry" was. But then he also produced Foreignor's "4", a light and airy pop rock album, which is what he eventually turned Def Leppard into. Too bad. They were a better AC/DC than Foreignor. ;)

Okay. I know when I've been beaten.

I will admit that my feelings about "Pyromania" are a bit harsh. Photograph and Stagefright really are good tunes (even in disagreement, Jez still has excellent taste), and the overall vibe is mostly decent hard rock.

I can only say that for me, the album was a big disappointment that I (apparently) never got over.

Perhaps therapy is in order... ;)

 I totally understand where you're coming from, I could have taken your words verbatim and substituted "Hysteria" as the subject. I felt almost betrayed when that came out... :crying:

I have a big soft-spot for "Hysteria" as it was the first CD I ever bought & I loved it from beginning to end (still do), so I'm not very objective when it comes to that album. But when I went back & heard "Pyromania" I was much less impressed (though "Photograph" is a great track), so although I voted for Option 2 I guess I can understand why people think the same thing about the "Hysteria" album....

Hysteria, on the other hand??? ...Pyromania it ain't! Not close.

Damn straight it's not close, 'cause "Hysteria" is a much better album than "Pyromania." Yeah, I said it. Now, who wants to fight? Meet me in the alley. I'll be the badass SOB getting a blowjob from your mother.

Unfunny and slightly harsh joke removed, apology extended. ;)

You might be a half-assed guitarist, but you're an excellent post-meddler. :P

I'm not bothered by the 'what's better out of 'Pyromania' and 'Hysteria'' argument because they're both amazing... and I think I even voted 'Pyromania in the poll somewhere on the site... but anyone who doesn't like 'Hysteria' just plain sucks.

    • So some may remember that Tyketto toured recently and aside from Forever Young, I never delved into this band. So I did, so I'd know the songs in concert and was blown away. A great band with an awesome catalog that I had missed out on. To be fair, in the 80's it was a lot harder to access and find out about a lot of the more fringe bands, that's my excuse anyway. So I now am faced with digging deeper into some other bands I've overlooked. Some of these I gave a go, and wasn't really impressed, but now I'm starting fresh with an open mind. So below is a list of bands I have eitehr never bothered with, or never really gave a proper go. Lizzy Borden is on the list and I have done a bit of their stuff and like it a lot, so I will definately dig deeper into them (I've got some older stuff and some newer stuff, but have skipped quite a few albums) But the others, fire away, tell me which bands have killer material that I'll froth and how stppid I've been to skip them. • I like the album art. I love when contemporary Glam Metal bands have album art with a genuine 80s vibe to it.
    • Nope, for a while, I used to think Rapunzel from Tangled (2010) was hot... But then I stopped being attracted to cartoon characters.
    • This is definitely the first time I've heard about it, I'll have to give it a listen!
