I've been looking for " Dancing With Danger" & "Quicksand Shoes" seemingly forever on CD...I assume they were never officially released on CD so I'll be interested to see what you get from this legit cd-r...

Quicksand Shoes is probably my fave Streetheart album - can't believe it's never been released on CD...will let you know about the Dancing With Danger when it turns up....apparently the USA album (Larry Baud) sounds great but is a little lacking in the booklet/artwork department.

The Streetheart and the USA cdrs arrived today.

Pros

The sound on both is excellent.

The informaion side of the CD is well printed and looks good.

Both the CDRs are regular thickness .... e.g. the Retrospect Groundstar release was thinner.

The artwork is okay and reasonably well printed ...now see the cons for artwork

Cons

The accompanying artwork/booklets are very basic - neither lists band members only song titles on the rear of the booklet (USA only) and the rear of the tray cards.

The Streetheart one has the artwork shown at Amazon.com and not the original and it is printed on 1 side only then folded to create the booklet which has the Max Cat Records logo and webaddress on the back of the "booklet" which is of quite thin paper/card. Whereas the USA one is on a better quality paper/card and is printed both sides (although the inside just shows what other releases the pressers, Essential Media Group have available.

The Streetheart booklet hadn't been folded precisely so I ended up refolding it myself.

Also the Streetheart doesn't have anything on the spine of the CD like artist or title..

I must be getting soft in the head as I'm okay with them - the sound is really good, the booklets leave a lot to be desired and that's what lets it down a little - AND at the end of the day it's a CDR but my opinion of them has changed a little when they can be at least reasonably presented. But with postage these CDRs worked out only a little less than a regular CD so price is a bit of an issue.

Out of 10 I'd give them 6.5 or maybe 7 and considering they may never see a proper CD release I'm happy enough.

Just for interest over at Glory Daze when I was questioning if anyone had used Amazons createspace one of the chaps answered

"Did a little research and found out that the company listed on Amazon as MaxCat Records http://www.maxcatmusic.com/about.php actually owns the rights to the Boardwalk catalog (Rock Candy Take Note!) which Streetheart "Dancing With Danger" was released on in the States"

I think I'll wait and hope they are properly released on cd one of these days as I really don't want a cd-r but at least you've found an alternative in case they do not get properly released...

Actually I'm gonna update this, I've got around to listening to the Streetheart on headphones and my proper Hi-fi instead of my PC speakers (which usually reveal stuff pretty well) - and it's obviously a vinyl rip, there's a few pops and crackles especially towards the end - so I'm downgrading it to around the 4-5 mark, it started off so well though. The USA album is a lot better and according to the sleeve has been digitally remastered, never having heard the original vinyl I can't comment. But the Dancing with Danger album to me was always quite a harsh sounding production and hearing this CDR it doesn't seem like, much remastering if any was done. In fact towards the end it gets a little sloppy. I've heard worse properly released CD's but still considering what technology is about these days it's sloppy.

So yeah save yer cash for a proper CD release hopefully from the masters!

For comparison the Retrospect Groundstar CDR is light years ahead of this Max Cat release. And a fair bit ahead of the USA one.

Not sure I'd use the Amazon service again, The USA was good enough but the Streetheart less so.
