  1. I love 'Love keeps bringing me home' personally It's okay... probably the best of the weak songs I mention. But the ballads are all weak on the album. 'Once in a lifetime' would be my pick of the bunch, but even that is only okay. And 'Arienne' is saved by the full band joining in, but still also a pretty weak song. Man, I'm all over those two tracks (Once and Arienne). Definitely two of my faves on that album. I love the emotion coming through in Shotton's vocals on Once in a Lifetime. Great album! Been too long for me to comment on the tunes that DON"T do it for me though.
  2. Yep me too. I do love Chip and Monaco can sing but no Donnie or Derek and no EZN. However I will gladly listen to what comes about and cast my judgements then. I wonder where Derek Frigo is these days? You cant have Enuffznuff without Donnie. Monaco is a major talent and does a fine job with their back catalogue but I agree, Vie's voice is irreplaceable. Frigo died in 2004. RIP
  3. Here's a live version - even cooler https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcddP4-9VDU Very cool. Thanks for sharing.
  4. Um no! Good/as good, maybe. Better?! Absolutely love what I'm hearing, and this song is great. But better than all DD albums? If Ted was singing on it... just maybe. But nobody/nothing will outdo D2 for me unless it directly involves the voice of D2, Mr. Poley. And that isn't meant as a slight against Laine. I've been a massive fan since he first released Stick It here in Canada. I remember being so pumped reading Metal Edge and hearing Paul Laine was tapped to replace Poley in D2. If Poley wasn't gonna be around anyway, I couldn't think of a more bombastic second choice than Laine. Although Tommy LaVerdi of 21 Guns woulda been my first choice. I always thought he and Poley shared a similar vocal style. I don't want to hijack too much of this thread 'cause I'm sure the Defiants release is going to be killer but has anyone else been dreaming about how awesome a new D2 cd written and recorded by Ravel, West and temp. guitarist Steve Brown with Ted on vocals would be? Wow!
  5. Thanks for helping out with that link. I'm about as computer savvy as your average simian.
  6. I remember seeing a leaflet of the Shrinky Dinx in Hollywood Rocks, I think. Laughed at the name but never realized McGrath was in that band. I have the cd of Lit performing as Razzle in their hair metal days. Cool tunes similar to Warrant and Trixter.
  7. Do they have 4 songs in addition to the 7 on What's Your Name? If so, I'd be eternally grateful for a hook up as well. Just watched their Marissa video on their facebook page. What a killer song and yet it isn't even my favorite of the bunch.
  8. In order to riff on the absurdity of the dying days of this genre at the end of the 80s Steel Panther have to take things to an even more extreme level, hence the prevalence of material based on hummers and dicks etc. Spinal Tap had an easier time in their moc doc because they didn't have to contend with the overtly superficial and often times stranger than fiction hedonism of hair metal but if you listen closely to the lyrical content of Steel Panther's albums there are many many moments of hilariously genius poetic couplings. These guys are funny. Their street cred having come up through that time period along side their crudely funny stage banter, comedic timing and catchy songs makes them one hell of an entertaining show. If I hadn't seen them live before I'd put up that kinda cabbage to see them. Haters can hate if they want to, but ask yourself if everything your favorite comedian comes up with is absolute gold?
  9. Not Keeling. I meant Kelly Hansen.
  10. Had the chance to grab this one for $10 but chose Black Country Communion 2. Right move or no?
  11. There is a live concert featuring Keeling and Pilson with Foreigner that was filmed for HBO I think. Gramm has such a distinctive voice, I was skeptical of anybody filling in for him but Keeling is fantastic. Enjoy the show.
  12. The "The" is intentional, and the whole reason they named themselves that. I get that "the" is part of their name. My question is why? The 1975 sounds so clunky. I agree that it does sound weird, but, like I said, that's why they named themselves that. It comes from a poetry book Matthew Healy read, with the date written as "1 June, The 1975" in the back. Thanks Funk. Knowing the history behind it, now I think the name is kinda cool.

  14. They should have just gone with 1975. "The" kills the flow of their name. To each his own, but this song does nothing for me. Can't see the OMD (who I dig) influence. I think The Goodnight blow these guys outta the water. Thanks for sharing though.
  15. Was Modern Vintage their last? I liked it and don't mind this tune either. To be perfectly honest, I play Sixx AM more than the last Motley album.
  16. You still have an HMV? Where you at? Winnipeg. No more music at Best Buy here. Other than HMV, I believe there is only one solitary retail store specializing in music here. Otherwise your only option is Walmart.
  17. Thought provoking. Have never attempted to decipher the meaning behind the lyrics. However, it's my firm belief that Bohemian Rhapsody is the best song written in the history of rock n roll... ... let the debate begin.
  18. Obviously this, coupled with the Defiants debut, is why there is no D2 lately. Never heard a word about it until this vid but even if I had never heard of Poley before (a ridiculous notion as D2 is one of my favorite all time bands) I'd be purchasing this on the strength of Higher's sample alone. Unequaled brilliance, to these ears. As Geoff mentioned, with the Martins writing the bulk of the album, one need not worry that it will meet or exceed expectations. I've got nothing but good things to say about Delvechhio and Frontiers. They are keeping our genre alive and giving me a reason to hit the cd racks at HMV up here in Canada and Best Buy south of the border.
  19. I'm worried myself. Some passionate fans are otherwise not impressed. The last one seemed to foreshadow a fluffier poppy sound but still had plenty of monstrous bombast. I'll sample it and go from there. Has to have at least a handful of solid tunes.
  20. I've been listening to these guys a lot lately. Might appeal to fans of We The Kings etc. Not to be confused with the other Goodnight, Sunrise out there who I believe are Canadian and feature a female vocalist. http://thegoodnightmusic.com/ Hopefully these work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmhSCpdTOaI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNuoHebXlj8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BylXz6Qd1zg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CdV0iSsZk0
  21. I like the chorus and the melodic verses deep into the song but that's about it. Can't say I've ever been a huge fan though. Sidebar: she used to live on my block and was a playmate of my older brother's when they were in grade school.
  22. Obviously not for everyone but Roth excels at this style. He is a gifted storyteller and a witty lyricist. I like his simplistic approach. He could have put out a balls out rocker (fine by me, btw) and the malcontents would have shred him for how shitty he sounds nowadays.
  23. I like the Zeros but they certainly reached the level of success I would have expected from them had I signed them. Roxy Blue were from Memphis and they have been noted as the last successful hair band in The History of Rock n Roll I believe. Not sure what that exactly means and I couldn't find album sales figures. Too late to the ball obviously but they were discovered by Jani Lane, signed to Geffen by Tom Zutaut and had their album produced by Mike Clink so expectations were obviously sky high. Absolutely love this band!
