Michael Bormann's Jaded Hard - Feels Like Yesterday

This dropped today and while it's easy to poke fun at the name, the reality is, this pretty much sounds like the old Jaded Heart we all loved. The name may be a cheeky/childish "f*** you" to his ex-band mates, but it kind of makes sense since he mimicked the Jaded Heart sound. This is a surprisingly good helping of melodic hard rock and as long as he keeps delivering this level of quality, he can call it whatever he wants and I'll fork over my money.

Looking forward to hearing it. To be honest, I think Bormann could have done this from the moment he split from JH. To me, he was more or less the entire driving force behind the band, right down to the point where all the backing vocals were pretty much only ever just layers of his own vocals (unfortunately).

We can see where JH went without him, and the reason everyone went off Bormann is because of how far off he veered from the quality of JH... and I couldn't understand why he was suddenly releasing such poor stuff. Anyway, looking forward to this album.

Oh. Oh dear. :( Well, my anticipation and hope that this might be good was smacked in the balls this afternoon. :( I was bored stupid by it. Just the same ol' weak post-JH songs as far as I can tell. Average production job too. Didn't like it one bit.

I had my hopes up pretty high for this and while it's ok, it's definitely missing something.... Balls....

And more driven guitars.

And a little more production....

Bormann still sounds great, but this sounds like a watered down MB solo album at best. The guitar sound is very bland and weak as well as the riffing. Good Lord, MB needs to call Baris Kepic! He had the sound and riffs that really pushed Jaded Heart on the IV, Journey, and Trust albums.

The production is rather weak on this as well. It's like they did everything in one take. It's missing that wall of sound that his Jaded Heart years had.

Maybe I'm wrong for thinking this would be a continuation of 2004 Jaded Heart? I guess the way it was hyped up, that is why I had my hopes up...

I agree 100%. It's like Skid Row, and several other bands and ex-members. As much as they might hate to do it, the only way for further success (or more good songs) for any of these guys is to "get the band back together."

'Trust' was a little rusty, production-wise, but jeez it still had loads of balls and a good heavy sound. This one does just sound meek.

And I do agree with you 100% about his voice. As I was listening the car this afternoon, I was thinking how I must make a point of this. Like his voice or not, it's exactly the same now as it was from the start. Pretty amazing, to be honest.

I gave this a spin today and I'm somewhere in between the above comments.  Is this as good as the early Jaded Heart albums, imo no, is it better than most of Bormann's solo releases and the JH releases after Sinister Mind, imo, yes.  I agree that the album could have been better if the songs were more guitar driven.  But I found that several tracks have hooks and melodies that reminded me of those older Jaded Heart albums which was what I was hoping for.  Initially, my favorites are Won't Surrender, Just One More Step Away, Feels Like I'm Living, I'm a Son of a Gun, and Bring Me Higher Love.  If you are a fan of early JH, or Bormann in general, I believe it is worth checking out.

I'd agree with that, although I haven't really been much of a fan of Jaded Heart on anything since HelluvaTime

Helluva Time was my fave of the JH albums without Mr. Bormann as well, but I did enjoy some tracks on Sinister Mind, so figured I'd give some acknowledgement to that :drink:

I forget off the top of my head, but I think I really enjoyed the first three post-Bormann Jaded Heart albums, and then they got weak. :(
