BREAKING NEWS: AIRRACE ANNOUNCE UK CO-HEADLINING WINTER TOUR WITH LIONHEART + NEW SINGLE ‘EYES LIKE ICE'. SET TO RECORD NEW ALBUM.

We are pleased to announce the re-signing of Airrace for a new album to be released in 2018! An opening salvo from the record arrives today with the single ‘Eyes Like Ice’.

One of the UK’s pioneering AOR bands, the group will play the Rockingham 2017 event in Nottingham on 22nd October, before hitting the toad with kindred spirits Lionheart for a pre-Xmas co-headlining tour.

Airrace founder and guitarist Laurie Mansworth says: "We are absolutely delighted that Airrace have signed to Frontiers. Our new single has the classic Airrace sound but with a heavier edge. We can't wait for you to hear the full album. I’m also thrilled to be taking the band on the road, which will be the first time the new line-up has toured together. It features my son Dhani (of The Treatment) on drums."

Of the tour co-headliners, he adds: “I toured with Dennis, Rocky and Steve back in the 80’s and have very fond memories of our time on the road together. It’s a great double bill and I really hope rock fans up and down the UK will come and share a fun night with us.”

Known in Hard Rock circles for being the band that saw the musical debut of drummer Jason Bonham, Airrace was the brainchild of former More guitarist Laurie Mansworth. Following the acclaimed 1984 release of their debut album, ’Shaft Of Light’, the band supported rock titans such as Queen, AC/DC, and Meat Loaf, but they had crash-landed by the summer of 1985. It took a 25th anniversary reissue of the
record to reunite the group (with a slightly amended line-up), and they eventually issued a second album, ‘Back To The Start’ via Frontiers in 2011.

NEW SONG & VIDEO ALERT: One of the UK’s pioneering AOR acts,Airrace were originally formed in 1982. Having recently re-signed to the Frontiers label, they have today released a new single and announced a forthcoming album and
a tour to promote it.

The single, ‘Summer Rain’, is described by band leader and guitarist Laurie Mansworth as “a song for the summer. I wanted to write something upbeat with a positive feel, as there is far too much doom and gloom around at the moment. This song will hopefully take you to a sunny day and lift your spirit."

The album, entitled ‘Untold Stories’, will be released on 10th August. Mansworth continues : “We had a great time making the record. It’s not typically Airrace, with a lot of the material being more 70’s influenced. There is also a much wider spectrum between light and shade in the writing. I have always liked a wide range of different musical styles, from ELO to Led Zep, and when writing these songs I incorporated many of my influences from over the years.”

An eight date UK tour in September to promote the album will see Airrace pairing up with Frontiers labelmates The Treatment with support from Tequila Mockingbyrd. The itinerary is :

21.09.18 CARDIFF Clwb Ifor Bach
22.09.18 LONDON Underworld
23.09.18 NORWICH Waterfront
24.09.18 CAMBRIDGE Portland
27.09.18 WOLVERHAMPTON Slade Rooms
28.09.18 SHEFFIELD Corporation
29.09.18 NEWCASTLE Cluny
30.09.18 GLASGOW Stereo

I've given the album a full listen, and it's a good one if you like classic AOR. As mentioned above, heavy Styx influences... Styx meets Led Zeppelin maybe (at least as far as the rawness of some of it, not as heavy certainly)?

Some really good tunes  'Running Out Of Time'' and  'Summer Rain'  especially and some not so. Quite varied style wise too., so  overall, pretty good without earning any top 10 placings

Airrace calls it a day.

It is with great sadness that we have decided to bring Airrace to an end. We have had an amazing time performing for you all and recording over the last few years, and we are all particularly proud of ‘Untold Stories.’ We feel the Airrace legacy is being left in a much happier place, and feel that we have made three cracking records that people will hopefully enjoy for a long time.

We are all unfortunately currently in a place where other priorities and commitments are not allowing us to put the time and energy needed into Airrace, but we are all still great friends and share a bond that will continue.

I would just like to thank you all for supporting us over the years, and a special mention to Frontiers Music for doing a great job on two of our releases.

We have decided to play one final show in London at some point next year, and we will still be performing at the Oxford O2 Academy on the 15th of November with our good friends in The Treatment. These will be the final two Airrace shows, so we’d love it if you could come down and help make these nights extra special.

Keep your eyes peeled for further information about the final London headline show.

Lots of love,
Laurie, Linda, Adam, Rocky, Dhani.

Oh lol, you mean these were new recordings? I thought everything we heard from these guys were demos from decades ago.
