Lovebite - Lock n Load

Glen

Recommended Posts

Well I did a quick search and am surprised that we never started a thread on these guys.....or maybe we did & I just cant find it??

Anyway, for me this is the second best sleaze moment this year after Peepshow. Great rocking stuff with absolute killer solos throughout. The singer will be an acquired taste for many and in fact probably accounts for a loss of between 0.25 to 0.50% per song..............here's a quick summary.

1. Sin City (8.5) - Great rocking sleazy opener. Riff

2. Breakin' The Rules (7.5) - Another rocking sleaze tune, but the hook is average

3. Love/Hate (7.0) - Solid sleaze rocker

4. Hey Baby (9.0) - Pretty killer balladic / sleaze rocker..starts out acoustic, but great chorus and killer solos! Bags of passion.

5. Gonna Love You Anyway (8.0) - classic riff in that pre chorus. Another solid rocker

6. Lock n Load (7.5) - good rocker but again the hook could be better

7. Queen Of Hearts (9.0) - what a riff! very cool rocker with killer solos. nothing more.

8. Can't Fight Your Love (9.5) - most melodic song on offer. really very good pre & chorus hook. Again the solos are just perfect.

9. Striptease (8.0) - cool Motley Crue styled rocker

10. Mr Lonely (8.25) - great rocker with a hint of Vain. Slightly spoiled by some silly screaming at the end.

11. Too Much Is Never Enough (9.0) - killer intro into another great rocker - good way to end.

Overall : 83%

I hate to agree with Glen twice in one month (;)) but I've just listened to 'Sin City' and I'm seriously impressed. Couple of other songs I played were pretty good and and I'm with you on the guitar solos; they rock like bastards! Nice.

Is this one easy to find?

I'm sick of all of these cool sleaze albums that are crazy expensive and hard to find.

I also bought it directly from the band. Its also available over at musicbuymail. Don't remember it being that expensive.

Pretty similar rating from me. Not quite as high, but close enough:

01. No Turning Back - intro -

02. Sin City - killer riff driven hard rock opener - 8.50

03. Breakin' The Rules - solid hard rocker, but with not much of a chorus - 7.25

04. Love/Hate - solid hard rocker - 7.25

05. Hey Baby - very nice balladic tune with a great hook - 8.00

06. Gonna Love You Anyway - another solid hard rocker with only an okay chorus / hook - 7.25

07. Lock 'N' Load - pretty killer hard rocker - 8.25

08. Queen Of Hearts - solid hard rocker, but again a pretty weak hook - 7.25

09. Can't Fight Your Love - good hard rocker with a cool chorus - 8.25

10. Striptease - solid hard rocker - 7.00

11. Mr. Lonely - good catchy hard rocker - 8.00

12. Too Much Is Never Enough - kind of a lyrical jumble, but a cool hard rocker - 7.50

TOTAL SCORE - 77%

I really like it. Pure and simple, but really good for what it is. I agree with Glen that the vocals aren't super, but it' a great debut.

Yeah, agreed........but is the title track really as good as 'Can't Fight Your Love'? imo that is easily the best track...head and shoulders above the rest...really great pre chorus, and chorus, and the solos are excellent.

Just listened to them both back to back and yeah, maybe I agree. A few extra points wouldn't go astray on 'Can't fight your love.' I do love the chorus line hook of the title track, though.

Might give this one a miss and just download Sin City ... I listened to Love/Hate and Lock n Load and didn't think they were that great. I'd love to listen to the other songs you rate highly, Glen, which might persuade me to buy the CD but can't seem to find them online and I can't afford to take a punt on a CD I might not like these days...

Cheers!

I reckon I'll probably love this, it's just frustrating that I can't listen to, for example, 'Can't Fight Your Love' and 'Mr. Lonely' because they are not available to play online anywere. This ought to be a lesson for bands: I am far more likely to buy a CD these days when I have been able to listen to at least 5 or 6 tracks. I'm sure I'm not the only one, I'll bet there are many other people in the same boat, especially as disposable income is so low at the moment. So my last purchase of the year was Suicide Bombers, which sounds great and I was able to listen to several songs before taking the plunge. Just a thought.

I generally won't buy a cd without listening to at LEAST 5-6 tracks. There are some bands I would buy blindly....Crashdiet, Shakra, HCSS for example, but in general gotta hear a lot of tracks to spend the money...especially since some of these CD's are reaching that $20 range.

Agreed, mate. I know that's not a queue for an "it's okay to download" comment, but unless you're earning billions and have spare millions to throw around, there's just way too much music to buy everything that could possibly be good. Like you, I have my bands I buy blindly, but otherwise, these days I need a full album to judge if it's worth buying or not. There are just waaaay too many releases to consider...

And James, craziest thing. I found a site last night with 'Can't fight your love' available to play. Just googled it again and it didn't appear in my browser at all. What a real puzzle?

That's the one! I found it 2 nights ago but couldn't find it last night. How odd. Thanks for the mystery solvation.

I got a reply a few months back when I asked the question. Pretty damn expensive, though. Just found it. It was £13.29.

Does that include P+P to Oz? If so looks reasonable to me............

    • I wonder what control they have over the releases? That have promoted the BMG individual releases. The 2009 reissues were by original label, EMI. And this boxset seems weird being issued by Cherry Red. And I have not seen the bands social media promote it at all. I wonder if the reason the BMG ones were lacking in the bonus tracks from the previous reissue was EMI holding onto the rights, but have now allowed Cherry Red to release them. I know EMI used to be the distributer for Cherry Red, so they may be more forthcoming with the material.
    • Yep, cracking indie release of which there are so many but this one is actually really good.
    • I have been a Band Maid fan since their early days (2015) as I really don't mind foreign vocals as long as the music is great, but I always kinda avoided Babymetal as I saw a video of them once and really wasn't impressed with the kiddy vocals, so never gave them another chance. Fast forward to now and on the back of the collab with Electric Callboy I have decided to give them a go. I thought they had a huge discography as they have like 25 albums, but on closer inspection it is only four studio albums and 21 live albums. As I am not a fan of live albums anyway, I decided to buy the four studio albums as they are all quite cheap. Have to say there music is a mixed bag, but overall really enjoying a lot of it. Not sure if I just picked the wrong song to start with, or if it is just that I have adapted more due to getting into a lot of weird and wonderful foreign bands over the last few years, but I am glad I finally gave them a proper go. Have to say, if this song was sung in English I think they would have a lot of fans on here
    • Babymetal - Metal resistance Babymetal - The other one
    • Enjoyed their last cd "Human Nature" remind me of a mellower Black Stone Cherry, similar to Little Caesar.
    • BlackRain - Hot Rock Time Machine Lee Aaron - Bodyrock
    • Now theres a blast from the past  I'm lucky enough to possess
    • Another i'm still awaiting the arrival of...same day release/delivery my arse Amazon  Still this is sounding like their best release thus far...they are gaining and getting better...although I did enjoy the last few albums also...but the sound/production from this one is excellent.
    • Still awaiting mine to arrive...should've been on Weds  or according to my order that was the case anyway
