Need your opinions please.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys - after 5 years of being this business I really don't feel I get enough feedback from the fans. There are some big changes and happenings coming to the Retrospect front.

My question to you is this:

If you please , could you let me know what , in your opinion , the best 3 Retrospect releases have been so far.

Thanks for your input...

It's pretty hard to narrow it down to 3 releases, but I'd name the following ones:

1. Pretty Boy - Metro Sessions

2. The Storm - Sweet Surrender

3. Michael Furlong - Use it or Lose it

Looking forward to 4th of July! Great work guys :headbanger:

Btw: I think you should push your private collection CD-sale a bit more - some great deals there that a lot of people probably don't know about.

The Mariah releases are awesome!!!

So are the Weapon's releases!!!

I really like when extra things are included such as the DVD's :party421:

The Reckless~ No Frills is great too!

Keep the good stuff coming! :banger:

1. Pretty Boy - Metro Sessions

You need to do another run on this one Sam; been sold out for a while, and damn near impossible to get for a decent price now.

My top 3 in no particular order...

Bad Angels On The Rail

Brinx Rain On The City

XL New York Walkin New York

Any chance of Rock Boulevard and/or Friction getting a silver pressed edition with full color booklets and updated liner notes?

Thanks so much for your input. We've really been trying to put more effort into the booklets and such and I think the MAJORITY of what we have done in the last 2 years has been better than our "beginnings".

I always thought PRETTY BOY 'Metro Sessions" was a freaking excellent album and yes , it's been sold out for a couple years now. Nobody had ever emailed me to ask if I was going to re-print it but I think it definitely is time.

Friction / Rock Boulevard expanded editions is something I am working on....if those guys would ever email me back!!!

Ummm... what else? Oh yes , so we are going to do this massive expansion in July which will include a mailing list (we've needed to do this forever) and a VIP members 'club' which will give members the opportunity at first dibs for new releases as well as coupons / discounts , for a small yearly fee.

We are definitely going digital..so people will have the option to download cd's directly.

And yes , the used cd section of the website is doing quite well but could do better - I hope many of you check it out periodically as the majority of what I am putting up is my private collection which is reasonably priced I think.

What I haven't done yet is sold off my holy grail of the rarest indies on the planet...I've kept those as my nest egg but I have hundreds of rare cd's sitting here that will eventually go.

Without a doubt , the rarest cd in my collection is a fantastic Christian AOR gem from 1987 called simply '7'. Yes , '7' self-titled. I have never seen it ANYWHERE , EVER and it's almost as good as the Mastedon material. I would be shocked if that didn't fetch $1000+ but maybe I'm too optimistic. Has anyone else ever heard of that or seen it around?

I have hundreds of discs like that and I've been extremely reluctant to sell those off.

Incidently , the website is now getting consistently between 800,000 to 1,000,000 hits per month (I know , not nearly as much as HH but respectable) and I have been considering allowing other private sellers to have their own page dedicated to selling their stuff. Do think this is a good or bad idea and would you consider paying say $50 per year to flog your discs?

If anyone is interested in doing this , please let me know.

You know , I don't give kudos enough sometimes where it is due , and I just want to say that although we had a rough start , DAN you are to be well-respected my friend. HH is one of the top sites in the world for OUR music and I don't nearly give you enough credit for your hard work and determination to keep it running...so just know , that even if I am flaky and have some flaws in my world...HH is just an amazing place to be and I'm glad we could put a lot of our B.S. behind us. I don't ever expect you or anyone to trust me 100% but you have always given me a second chance (or third) and I'm glad you did see the good in my intent.

I would urge people reading this to donate $5 or more to the maintenance of this website as I will shortly. What's $5? For HH , COME ON GUYS!!

And this is truly and honestly not a jab or trying to start anything from back in the day, but I too was very happy to see the used cd section of the website and would have bought from it regularly. The problem is the one time I bought from it, bam-I got a bootleg. You have to go through that stuff and at least list it as a boot so buyers know what they are getting. You've been a round long enough to know what a boot looks like.

I will also say though while I did have that experience with the used cd's, I have had nothing but good experience with the Retrospect releases and appreciate the fact that you are doing it. Enough cannot be said a bout that, so thank you!

WILD AUGUST

PYRAMID

I like the look of your CD's they're silver with the black lettering which is what I like very professional.

Maybe you can dip into some heavier stuff, I'm sure there are some great unsigned thrash bands out there.

Mullethead , I assume you are referring to the EYES cd. While I have never denied selling boots , I would certainly let you know if you asked. I make a point to list RUSSIAN PRESSING next to the ones that are made there.

You would be correct and as I recall, there was no such description on this one or I would not have bought it. I don't typically have to ask a seller if it's a boot when it clearly states Japan pressing. Either way, it is just one guys opinion and suggestion.

Hey Sam..can't wait...looking forward to ordering the new releases on cd coming up July 4th. Have my list ready...LOL!

Also interested in the VIP Members club...I have helped a few bands on your label get signed...and want to be part of the VIP membership club...sounds awesome and also being on a mailing list.

Great job my friend and keep signing those bands....oh get that Cowboy X CD out,,,talked to Dave..and it is definitely going to happen...! :party421::cheer::drink:

Can you post a pic of the cover of the '7' CD? I'd be keen to see what it looks like.

Few quieres regarding the private seller section proposed:

Would discs be shipped thru retropsect (ie sold on consignment) or would it still be up to the seller to mail them?

For less prevolant sellers (ie myself) maybe a % option. (eg retrospect takes 5% of the cd if sold) I have plenty of a handful of discs i'd love to sell but hate selling on ebay, adn at the same time $50 fee would seem a bit rich to list half a dozen discs.

hey peeps , i would like to share a few songs from our new releases online here, pre-JULY if possible to give you all a taster of whats coming. What would be the best way to do that - Divshare.com?? Is it easy to share a track here on HH?

thanks and excuse my ignorance :)

I'd say the easiest way would be to upload the samples to the Retrospect Records site, and then post direct links to the files in a thread on here that you want everyone to sample.

If you've got ALOT of samples you want to post, you could put them in a zip and then use one of the file sharing services like MegaUpload, Rapidshare, Divshare, etc...
