2011 NFL Draft

Yes, I will be drunk for the next 3 days watching and reviewing the NFL draft. Think Roger got the message last night? With the Falcons being my team I was more than stunned when they traded up to get Jones. He better make the f@cking Hall of Fame with all that we had to give up to get him. How do you feel about your team's draft?"

After their pick last night I'm embarrassed to be a Vikings fan...even more so than usual. :anon:

All I could do was scratch my head when I saw that they had picked Christian Ponder. No idea what they saw in him to make them take him ahead of Mallet, Dalton, or even Ricky Stanzi or Tyrod Taylor.

Of course, the Panthers took Cam Newton, and now, inevitably, he will wind up starting too soon, and due to having to run for his damn life on nearly every play (pitiful O line), his pro career will fizzle out without ever really having a chance to succeed. Just my opinion, but that's what I see happening.... hope I'm wrong.

Add the fact that Steve Smith has demanded a trade (cleaned out his locker even), Cam will NO receivers to throw the ball to.

Yep, the Panthers have some SERIOUS work to do to become a contender again. I can easily see them picking first again next year with the team they have and schedule (BRUTAL) they have next season.

Maybe the dumbass falcons could have traded half the picks they gave up in this draft. What were they thinking? Cleveland is grinning at getting the best deal since the Herschell Walker trade back in the day for my Cowboys. I shook my head for 10 minutes on the Falcons.

My Cowboys picked up a needed OT, they need more help on both lines.

I live near Buffalo so I try to root for them (it's really hard) but they got a great pick that they needed. I was afraid they would do something stupid again as usual but they made an obvious yet great choice.

My 2 cents

Mike

Still drinking and still watching the draft. Right now, I really like what the Bucs have done. Bookend rushers that can get to the passer. Of course being a Falcons fan, I hate that we have to face them twice a year.

I Prediction: Cam Newton will be the next Jamarcus Russel.

nope, Newton can and will work hard. his fate is in the hands of some that should, but will they, bring him along in a way that is best for him. I don't think he will ever be a top tier NFL QB but I think he can be a solid starter and win games for you. I just don't think he will take you to the big dance. maybe if the chips fall right may get to the playoffs a few times. Who do I think he might be like you ask? Kordell Stewart. I think Kordell was ahead of his time. if he was in his prime in todays NFL he would be a so much better than he was, the way the game has changed.

Heh. It screams 1980s porn star.

I'm kinda ambivalent at what the Eagles have done. Some potential, but nothing OMFG good or bad.

Is it true that Atlanta gave Cleveland 11 draft picks, their starting backfield, $47 million, and rights to the Atlanta Airport?

Or maybe it just seems that way...

I disagree. He would have to do a complete 180. No work ethic and not a pocket passer. He looks like Russell to me. We'll see in 3-5 years.

Well then your one step ahead of me! I will use NO!!! names here, I will NOT!!! curse or jinx my team, I will only say this, There is a BIG!! reason he( ? ) was where he was in the draft, and readily available to the Bucks at the spot they got him at, that is one of those HUGE!! gambles on a HUGE!!! injury that could very well slick itself while he's fucking walking across the parking lot of Church's Fried Chicken and steps up on the curb wrong, just like that his entire 2011-12 Season is finished, maybe his career, I fucking hate these kind of players that get a dire injury in college, you spend your entire game time, totally tensed up, absolutely motionless not even breathing, locked on that one player every single down, you don't even really get to enjoy the game, cause your just watching, waiting, for that play, that one hit, god this is horrible, can't we just finish off the draft with a Punter or a FB or something, to ease my blood pressure??

after year one Cam has proven he was ready for the NFL game. What he does from here will be interesting to watch. Will he work hard to get better or rest and let his natural talent just "get him by". I think he is going to work hard and be better next year. Broke Peyton Manning's rookie passing record today

Interesting to look back at this thread and see how some of the things played out from last years draft. Cam Newton for the Panthers played well above and beyond expectations I would say. Julio Jones played well for my Falcons but needs to stay healthly with a full year of training camp.

Regardless, 2012 draft is a day away. Gearing for some beers and bad food for the next few days. Without a 1st round pick for the Falcs, I can sit back, relax and judge other teams picks.

Anyone have a wish list for the draft?

The trade for Asante is my 1st round pick. Shores up the d-backfield and makes it a strength (if everyone can stay healthy):

"Those dark days are all but over. By adding Asante Samuel to a secondary that now includes Brent Grimes, Dunta Robinson and promising young corners like Dominique Franks, Chris Owens and Darrin Walls, the Falcons have stocked their roster with quite a bit of cornerback talent. Add in talented by inconsistent Thomas DeCoud and crazy explosive William Moore at safety and just a pinch of a brand new, more aggressive coordinator, and you've got yourself a secondary to be reckoned with."

I can only hope this turns out to be true.

Yes, we need the Steelers to get help on the line and get some help with the DB's

on another NFL note, the Madden 13 cover is announced today

awesome, we have been working on the OL. I haven't paid attention but that shut-down corner from I think Nebraska that got arrested a week before the draft, is he still out there or has be been taken?

so, not being a cowboys or a redskins fan this should be hard to say but it isn't. I think that them getting fined because they were smart enough to bank on the "uncapped" season is a load of crap. isn't that the whole idea of an upcapped year????? NO CAP there NFL. you got beat at your own game and you don't like it. I hope that they win their battle against you just to let you know you don't have "all power and make up your own rules". to a lesser extent the Raiders and Saints also used this supposed uncapped year to their advantage. I thought one of the reasons for the uncapped year was an incentive for everyone to have a deal done and if not then it was "have at it boys. spend whatever you want"

Well, what a difference a year (and opposing defenses having lots of game film to study) makes. Cam has definitely come back down to earth this season, and looks more "human" if you will. The Superman celebration needs to go; how damn stupid did that look last Thursday night after the Giants had been kicking their asses the rest of the game?
