Need pics of original Harem Scarem demo CD

I've got someone wanting to sell me a copy of the (supposedly) original HS demo CD. I've never personally seen one in hand, but something seems off to me. Was the original demo a pressed disc?

The pictures the guy sent me have the correct cover art when compared to the copy shown at haremscarem.net, *BUT* it has the word "DEMO" in block red letters diagonally across the cover, which doesn't match. There is a liner/promo sheet with the disc in red lettering, as well as a tray card and cover sheet.

The disc itself has handwritten wording on it, which screams CDR to me.

If anyone has pictures of the actual disc and artwork they can post, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

-Dan

Dan

I have a copy of the original demos that I received in the early 1990's.....they were on CDR and I have attached the artwork for you to view. Later, Frontiers released the Demo collection in 2001 on CD titled "The Early Years".

I hope this helps.....

Wow. That's a 4th version I've never seen before. That doesn't look anything like the one shown at the HS website. I bet that's a home-grown bootleg. The subtitle "The Demos - Looking Back" isn't something the band would have had on their demo in 1989.

You're right....I actually have another old even cruder appearing demo CDR that has a white cover similiar to the first self titled Harem Scarem CD......one thing I'm sure of.....those demos were never made officially on a silver pressed CD until Escape released that disc in 2001......anything prior to that is going to arrive in CDR format.

Well, according to the HS website, if its the image below, it's a bootleg.

The artwork I'm referring to is this:

Interestingly enough, the guy sent me closeups of the inner ring of the CD, and it has the words "HAREM SCAREM" as part of the inner chapter ring, as you would expect to see on a pressed disc. It's not after-market engraving.

Wow Dan. Still even with the photos I'm not sure what to think of that disc. It screams bootleg...but the inner ring thing is a stumper. With as many times as this disc has been faked / re-released / bootlegged I'm not sure I would take a chance on it unless the money was right. I wouldn't spend too much just knowing that all the tunes are already out there and you will hear nothing on this CD that hasn't already been readily available. Just my 2-cents. Best! :drink:

Hey Dan,

This one is 100% the real deal. I only know one person outside of the band who owns an original aside from myself, and he got his from one of the band members. I've checked mine up against his and it's 100% legit. Also mine matches the one you've posted here on HH. Only 50 of these available and who knows how many of the record labels tossed this one back in 1989. My recommendation is to get this thing as soon as possible, you're very likely to not get another chance at it.

Well...glad someone can confirm the CD. Good stuff Metal! Still wonder what the value is? I'm not sure I would pay a bundle of money for it...but those who will / do I understand as it is one of only around 50. That's cool!

didn't dan once say he never pays more than $20 for a cd?

so this one must be worth $19.99.

???

Must have me confused with someone else. I've paid upwards of $200 for a couple of the discs in my soundtrack collection, and over $100 for a few in my Maynard collection.

Thats a pretty cool find... If you're a big fan, and the disk is priced right, go for it :headbanger:

To put things into perspective, I've been offered nearly $2,500 for mine. I hope you're getting it for less than that Dan, but if it's less than $1,000 you should definitely be all over it. I paid a bit less than that for mine, but looking back I'd be kicking myself if I didn't fork out the cash I did for it.

Just a quick follow-up, as I've been getting multiple PMs and emails from HH members interested in this disc.

I'm going to try something new here at HH:

The seller has agreed to auction the CD through Heavy Harmonies here on the forum. I've worked out a system that I believe will be fair to all parties concerned, provide transparency to both buyer and seller, and HH will get a commission from the seller for the effort.

If it works out well, I may try to implement a more formalized auction-style mechanism.

I will be posting the formal terms and conditions tonight when I get home.

Because this is a "work in progress", if someone sees anything in the terms that they feel is either unfair or exploitable, let's talk about it. I will state up front that while the seller is willing to sell this disc internationally, there are countries/regions that he does not feel comfortable shipping to, which is his prerogative.

At the very least it will be cool that an HH member gets to buy it!

So, why have you decided not to buy the disc Dan?

Any particular reason? (considering that you were in negotiations to buy it)

It's worth more than I'm willing to pay. It would be cool for me, but not essential, as I'm not a diehard HS collector.

    • Looks like I've got a bit of catching up to do. I've been absent from the forums, and mostly listening to the classics.
    • It's not a lack of response, it's an actively negative response. They appear to be blocking people and other organisations from sending aid. Really strange.
    • Glad you're okay, @whiplash1972. I can't imagine what that must be like.
    • If you go to the "edit song details" menu, you can edit the displayed lyrics ( handy to get rid of ugly brackets and prompts ), change the song title and change the thumbnail image.  You'd be able to do that to your tracks as well I think. Create a playlist for each of your albums and use your album covers as the images for your playlists.  They present pretty well on suno. The below link is for my playlist.    As for the vocals, I don't mind having female vocals on some of my tracks. As you mentioned earlier, I have absolutely no musical expertise whatsoever when it comes to instruments and I cannot sing for shit. I sort of think that it's like someone writing a song and then giving it to an Artist, Male or female, to interpret it musically. Think Desmond Child writing for Bon Jovi and also Joan Jett, or great songs by Jeff Paris being recorded by Vixen. Am I comparing myself to Desmond Child and Jeff Paris when it comes to songwriting talent? Hmmm... yes,  I think so.       https://suno.com/playlist/1581a017-9d55-4b0f-8ea8-555aa5b11d00
    • Good safe and well with the footage I've seen on news here in Australia it must be scary.
    • I can tell you that at the very least, there are people from FEMA working with some of the local businesses (my employer included) as far as looking at what aid is available to them. On the flip side, I've heard that one of the FEMA directors "got an attitude" with a few folks in the Asheville area and got popped in the mouth. I can't confirm that, just a story that's making the rounds.
    • Glad you and yours are ok Mike. There's been a lot of buzz on social media about the LACK of response from FEMA and the current admin. Have you seen or heard anything on the ground one way or the other?
    • Not sure if anyone has noticed my absence over the last 10 days, but I've only been able to sign in a few times from work over the course of that period. As some of you may know, on Friday, September 27th, Hurricane Helene slammed into western North Carolina and absolutely devastated this area, leveling entire towns in its path. In my 52 years on this planet, I've never seen destruction like this with my own eyes.  While my home and property were spared any major problems, our road looked like a damn warzone with all the trees and powerlines down. We were literally trapped like rats in a maze for several days, as even though some good samaritans were able to cut their way through the downed trees so we could leave the neighborhood, all roads leading out of this area were closed off, either due to trees and lines down, or due to flooding.   I was out of work for six days, as my employer had no power. We had no power here at the house for 9 days, with it being restored late yesterday evening. We lost several hundred dollars worth of food that thawed out from our fridge and freezers. No hot water after day one, no cell signal for several days, no stores or restaurants open for several days... If it sounds like I'm complaining, I assure you, I am not. I am grateful. My family and friends are blessed, as we're all pretty much back up and running now. While there was some severe flooding here in Morganton just around two miles from my house, overall, it was MILD around here. Once you drive a mere 20 miles up the road to a little town called Old Fort in McDowell County, and everything west from there, it is exponentially worse. Huge chunks of Asheville under water, Chimney Rock literally wiped off the map, Spruce Pine damn near wiped away, small towns with no communication to the outside world with people struggling. It is BAD here in Western NC, and it's going to take a LONG time for things to get back to some semblance of normal for ALOT of people.  I just felt the need to post and let anyone who might have noticed I was MIA that I am fine, but that alot of good people are not. Please keep western North Carolina in your thoughts and prayers, and if that's not your thing, drink one for all of us tonight. Here are a few links that I've shared over the last week on FB that show the devastation around here... https://fb.watch/v331QebVRJ/ https://www.facebook.com/100067755911039/videos/1069274148086583/ https://www.facebook.com/share/p/ER9b6tv8oj84QuWb/ https://www.facebook.com/share/p/9MpnKZUAx4m5oy3y/ All these aerial shots are from around 1-2 miles from my house: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/vux5WpAqeMDcNMhS/ https://fb.watch/v33x13dnTf/ https://www.facebook.com/share/p/V6RPz7HiiMhrBsfn/ https://www.facebook.com/share/p/vvEuMCm7We6fitZ9/ https://www.facebook.com/share/v/jE1utxkfNLeKEM9S/ Park Rangers in Chimney Rock managed to get the flag raised up again...
    • I've got a solid top 3 at this point.  At least for me, these 3 are heads and shoulders above everything else: 1.  Kissin' Dynamite 2.  Eclipse 3.  Maverick After that, it's really a hodgepodge of stuff.  New Roses, Daughtry (Only an EP but digging it), Collateral, Sebastian Bach, Judas Priest, Nestor, End Machine.  I'd probably put them in about that order at the moment.
