Great White - Hooked

I really liked this when I first got it but like so many cds it kind of got lost in the shuffle of have way to many cds to listen to. Well I pulled it out the other day and damn I had forgotten how good it was. If bluesy hard rock is your thing then it's impossible not to love this disc IMO.

Like an awful lot of bands, never got round to listening to!

You've never listened to Great White?????? :yikes:

You have to at least pick up "Once Bitten", "Twice Shy", and "Hooked". :headbanger:

Hell now that I think about it just buy everything they've ever done since they don't release bad albums IMO.

Hooked is very good, but to me the whole album just feels like they were trying too hard to create Twice Shy part II. I prefer Psycho City by a mile in the "lost in the shuffle" category.

'Desert Moon' was a cool tune...unfortunately i think its the same song they were playing when the 'Station' went up.Didn't the coverart get censored from the chick coming fully out of the water to just her upper torso ? Maybe that was the import..not sure.

I'm just the opposite. I liked afew killer tunes on Psycho Motel but I LOVE Hooked. One of their best ballds is on there too. I pretty much like every album they have done except Let It Rock.

I have the one where she is fully out of the water.

'Hooked' is a great disc. 'Lovin' Kind' is a beautiful ballad. As a hater of blues, as I've said before this is one of, if not the only band that ever broke that barrier for me.

Wow, that's random. What's wrong with 'Let it rock'?

Great question as Let it Rock is one of my favs from the band and really stood out since it was one of the few discs that came out in the mid 90's from an 80's band that was good.

Psycho City is awesome too but I don't hear the Twice Shy part II in Hooked at all.

To me it was even more bluesy than the previous album was and I think one thing that hurt it was how massive the song Once Bitten Twice Shy had been that it was hard to follow up and in some way the people might of been kind of sick of them. Sure Call it Rock N Roll and Desert Moon were both hits but to me anyway there were so many other great tunes such as Heartbreaker, Lovin Kind, Congo Square, Can't Shake it and Original Queen of Sheba.

Yeah, and after some really, really mellow discs it was the first one to kind of get back to their more rocking "roots", shall we say. I thought it was a solid disc.

I've been keeping an eye out for the fully nude cover artwork. They do have the nude girl pic moved to the inside of the insert on mine.

Shitty production & lame songs. That was enough for me :)

Oh no, not another "production problem"? :P You're an oddball, mate, that's for sure. Again, I hear no problem with the production on this disc...

Low budget sounding production with a very flat drum sound. Are you deaf :)

I'm not deaf and I can tell you there were no production problems on that disc and every song was a winner IMO. :screwy:

I remember I recorded this album from a friend of mine on cassette, He had the LP with the whole woman (It's an innocent cover after all, why censore it?)

I didn't like it, too much bluesy for my taste, I love twice shy,One bitten, can't get there form here

but the only thing I like form hooked is the cover.

Haven't heard it in a long time but it was one of my fave GW discs when it was current... it's on my never ending list of "things to upgrade from cassette to CD"

Jeez man, I'd had Tim (2) and Mark pegged as the production monkeys on this site, but in the space of two threads you have eclipsed the hell out of them. I guess nothing short of Def Leppard's 'Hysteria' will do for you, mate?

    • No official release yet so don't know when exactly the album is supposed to come out but I'm assuming it's this year. I'm sure you're all brimming with excitement.
    • I posed him that exact question on his discord page as to what his future plans are.... He said he plans to relax for a bit, do his You Tube thing, keep writing new music and then will decide how to release that music.  He said as of now he's thinking he'll either do a solo thing or form his own band.  He didn't say this but I'd sort of envision a Daughtry type "band" where he kind of puts a band behind his name. So essentially, I think you're right on with his plans.  Ultimately, I think like you say, the control is a big part of it.  I think he wants to be able to operate on his own schedule to maintain his health and family obligations. It'll be interesting to see what sound the new material takes on.  It would seem logical to think it would be rock/melodic rock of some sort since that's really the type of music he's built his following with but he certainly has shown he can dabble anywhere from AOR to metal.
    • Glad I got to see them with Erik in front. All the best to him, definitely looking forward to his future outings when he is fully recovered. Would be cool to see him form his own band, where he could take control, and play around in different genres, from full on metal, to soothing AOR, the guy is so versatile.
    • Remedy - Crying Heart. One I've just seen thanks to the Iridium channel.  From the upcoming album. It's a Killer.
    • Let's not forget Benny Hill. What a Magnificent show that was.
    • Yeah... I dunno about that. It would be too cringe. Who knows? If I'm high enough, I might submit a video.
    • Yep great track and if you fancy being in the video for "The Feeling" nows your chance.
    • I'm proud to say that I had this single when I was a mere 8 years old. KISS were big down here then. Norman Gunston is Iconic for Aussies of my vintage.  The face ln the bottom left says it all. Hilarious.
    • All in all, this is a great story. Erik played a brilliant, well received, albeit short cameo with one of our favourite bands.  It was a win, win, win. A win for us, a win for Skid Row (the album certainly put them back on the map) and a win for Erik, adding this to his already impressive resume. The fact that it was so amicable with both parties is also great to see.
    • I really like this album - not every song on it but there are some surprisingly catchy melodies all over. Personally I think the singer adds great energy to the mix. It reminds me of the earlier Bai Bang ("closer to you")
