Joel Ellis accuses Jon Bon Jovi of stealing his song!

>> Yeah, I've heard the PBF story too. But the debut CD actually credits Stiles with the song writing, doesn't it? <<

No, there are no publishing credits at all on the album, which is what originally caused the controversy.

The story is 100% true ... and, as far as the Bon Jovi guys ripping other people's music off I've heard that for over 2 decades now. A friend of mine even played me a demo that was done in 1985 or 86 with the exact same acapella opening (different lyrics) and intro solo as "You Give Love A Bad Name."

You complain about people talking shit about your beloved Bon Jovi but you seem to talk shit about Iron Maiden a lot knowing that it's gonna piss people(like me) off.

At least Maiden is ripping themselves off and not some other struggling band/musician.

watch the vids, they dont just rip off their own riffs..

im not tryna take the piss out of Maiden, im just pointing out that so many people like Iron Maiden and theyre guilty of it aswell, just that Bon Jovi gets the pisstakes...

but according Pete, its okay to rip off other peoples music

There is a HUGE difference between writing a song that has a similar riff to another song(that's called influence) and taking a demo tape and stealing the song and calling it your own.

thats if he did that...Joel Ellis never really went anywhere JBJ did....you dont think theresa good chance he just saidthat to get noticed?

and i had a listen to that song Mustang was talking about.....only similarity is they used a 12 string guitar and a minor 3rd lick like in Wanted Dead Or Alive...but that same lick is in Layla by Eric Clapton.

and if he did write Ill Be There For You, they could have heard the take and subconciously ripped it off (George Harrison did it!!!)

i did that, i accidently ripped of Church Of Desire by Richie Sambora in one of my lyrics, it was totally unintentional though.

if they think of a chorus, like Ill Be There For You, and put it to a tune, the first tune that pops in their head would be this Ellis demo....even though they dont realise it.

besides, atleast i heard the Ted Poley song, i still havent heard Ellis' version

I think if he wanted to be noticed he would of mentioned it around 20 years ago.

The reason he mentioned it now is because of the article where a musician accused Jon of stealing his song.

Besides if Joel really wanted to be noticed I think he'd be telling his story to television, newspapers or magazines and not a website.

im actually kinda interested in wether or not JBJ did rip off this guys song....when every threadlike this turns into a Bon Jovi pisstake it gets tiresome..

do you guys not realise that this site is primarily about Hair Metal? a style that Bon Jovi were very well known for in the 80s....they are the only decentband of our genre that you guys constantly take the piss out of, just because theyve released a couple of crap albums lately..

well so have Europe, Poison and Warrant, you dont take the piss out of themEVERY time theyre mentioned though, do you?

ok, maybe you do on the Poison one

'A couple of crap albums lately' is pushing it a little!! - try Haven't done a really decent album since 'New Jersey' 20 years ago. That fits a little better I think.

Maybe thats when the scene changed and grunge and altenative entered the picture. They weren't able to rip off any more up and coming artist so they had to actually try and write their own music. :loser:

atleast Bon Jovi's CDs all sound different! country or not, they havent been playing the same, galloping riffs for the last 30 years.

But Maiden invented that sound so they can play it all they want.

And all of Maiden albums don't sound the same. Listen to them all and get back to me.

"Aces High" sounds like "Run to the Hills"? In what universe?

"Can I Play with Madness" sounds like "Wicker Man"? I don't think so.

Yes some of their songs do sound similar but that's why they call it a "Signature Sound".

Cashing in? You do realise that Iron Maiden has never had a real hit single, well at least outside of the UK.

Besides "Run to Hills", which is the only song that radio ever plays, Maiden has hardly had any radio play in the US. All of their videos were only played on Headbangers Ball back in the day and not during daylight hours.

But they still sold gold and platinum in the US because of how awesome they are live, which is what makes a great band a great band. And for the record Maiden has never written or recorded an album in Nashville.

    • From their FB page: Alcatrazz wish to make the following announcement: Back in late 2020 the brilliant Doogie White came in to help us out with our then already booked live dates after the departure of the previous vocalist (those dates were ultimately postponed to late 2021 due to the Covid lockdowns). We all had a GREAT time...and thus, one thing led to another and before we knew it we had made two fantastic albums and toured considerably in a nearly 4 year period. Now our schedule is getting busier and busier, as is Doogie's with his very fine solo work... and with that, the inevitable clashing of dates in our respective diaries, and needless to say, the impossibility of him being able to be in two places at one time. We remain on very very good terms with Doogie and cannot thank him enough for his contributions to the band, he is very welcome on our stage anytime, as are all past Alcatrazz alumni. Current Warlord vocalist and someone already known to many Alcatrazz fans (as co-producer and also contributing songwriter for Alcatrazz's past 3 albums) Giles Lavery will be stepping up for the 2024 live dates - and with that we will be reintroducing many songs from the Alcatrazz past, including some not played in many years. Giles's first show is 22nd of March in New Orleans, lets all make him feel welcome and please lets also give a massive thank you to our dear friend Doogie White for everything he gave to this band since 2020, he is a true pro and a great person! Doogie has a video message to the fans that we will share later today as well. Jimmy, Gary, Joe, Larry.
    • Maybe it's because I've heard GnR a couple thousand times by now, but I much prefer "Fall to Pieces" by Velvet Revolver over "Sweet Child o Mine" at this point in my life.
    • I'll have to investigate that Durbin. I'd count Striker and Mick Mars among the best metal releases as well now that I think about it.
    • Haven't picked up Saxon yet, but as far as metal goes, I love the new Durbin album as well.
    • I wasn’t thrilled with the singles as they came out, other than “The Serpent and the King”, but I’ll be damned if they haven’t grown on me while listening to them as part of the cohesive package that is “Invincible Shield”. I broke down and picked up the Target exclusive to get the three bonus tracks, and I enjoy them too. Overall, a damn fine addition to the JP discography. Is it better than “Firepower“? I’m not there yet, but time will tell. 🤔 This one and Saxon have set the bar pretty high for metal this year. 👍
    • Agree with this. Though I think you should check out Firepower. You can get it real cheap new everywhere. It is molten. I'm also enjoying Invincible very much and 2024 new music as a whole.
    • I remember my early days on the internet joining a group on Yahoo (yeah thats how long ago it was) and the woman who created the group was trying to persaude me how great Creed was, so much so that she sent me the first two albums on CD. I had no idea what they sounded like. When I played them all I could think is that they sounded like Pearl Jam, and I fucking hate Pearl Jam. I ended up trading them for something better. I can't remember the ins and outs of it, but I somehow shared my CD collection online and she noticed straight away that the Creed CDs were not listed. She asked me why and I said I sold them as really did not like them, and got something I did like. She never spoke to me again after that
    • Like I Do,Do - Bret Michaels
    • I have always been an on/off fan of Priest. Loved Ram it down and Painkiller, then kinda lost interest when Rob left. Only newer albums I ever got around to picking up were Angel of retribution because I saw it real cheap and Nostrodamus as I found the deluxe edition cheap as well. With this one though I was interested in what I heard and saw the deluxe edition looked cool. I then saw they were selling copies on the JP website with a signed art card in both standard and deluxe format, but baulked at the price of the deluxe as they were charging an extra £10 over the unsigned version, and postage was lumpy ... plus I was a few days from getting paid. By the time I went back on there the signed deluxe was gone but they had the standard version with the signed card and it was the same price as the unsigned version (guess nobody was buying it) so decided to buy that and order the deluxe from Amazon, keep the artcard and sell the standard CD on eBay as it is still sealed. So yeah, been playing the album today and on my third (or is it fourth) playthrough, and absolutely loving it. When bands like Bon Jovi are  getting soft as shit with age, Rob and the guys are still full on metal gods. At 72, Rob should not be able to still perform like this, but he fucking well is, so more power to him. Really good start to the year so far with the 2024 albums I have picked up.
