  1. Recently rated this one, fell around 78%, the previous album is slightly better but overall a good one
  2. a very sensible choice for most of AOR/HR fans, i think Jim's new album should be out of top 20, a good one but hard to compete with the rest.
  3. A reassuring news for fans of MBM, although the new owner has to etch a good credibility first but there's a good chance it'll continue the store as it was
  4. 2 good movies, recommended if you like drama
  5. haven't watch it, but got a soft spot for some silly action movie and always think that a movie don't always have to have a moral ending right ?
  6. Interesting choice, i think need to find out about 36, 41, and 48, haven't heard them before Don't forget to post your top 50 for the other years too
  7. Maybe the disappointment came from wanting the new album to be better than 'Coup' or the back catalogue. Scorewise, yes the new album is weaker or lower, but if you treat it as a new artist with a new album, i think it's still a fine one, and maybe one of the reasons is because you spin it more than 50 times, well i guess not many albums can stand that many spins without us being exhausted or tired of it
  8. Dream Theater is not just a prog metal band, they're one of the pioneers back in the early days, together with Queensryche and Fates Warning. These latter two are more into heavy metal while Dream Theater can venture into heavier territory such as thrash. A media once labelled them as an exciting new band that combines both YES and METALLICA, well not too far off i guess. If you can appreciate those two bands, chances are you're gonna like Dream Theater, but if not, then it's hard. If you dislike old prog stuffs (like Genesis, Yes, King Crimson, Pink Floyd etc) and only into thrash/heavy metal stuffs, there are still some songs that you can appreciate. For me, I love 2 albums, 'Image and Words', one of their most accessible albums and maybe the best album in 1992, and the second one is 'Scenes From A Memory' from 1999. The third thing that I like is their 2011 album with Mike Mangini, but the rest well are maybe strictly for fans, but still you can make one great compilation from them.
  9. Ahh so it is good more for browsability reasons to some extent? So ideally,in a record store it would be better for artists if they were shelved in multiple genres where possible? (Like the Hoobastank album I was looking for could have gone in Metal,Rock+mainstream sections) Browsability (is that even a word lol) is one thing, but categorizing is also important for media, such as magazine. For example, AOR / Melodic Rock can be classified in one section (for reviews, previews, or any related news) while Hard Rock and Heavy Metal can be grouped in another section. There are maybe some bands that can fit in these two sections, but there are few others are really not, such as now Deep Purple can be grouped as AOR and Foreigner in hard rock, it's very obvious.
  10. Spice Girls - 2 Become 1, ruined by Paul Gilbert Boyz II Men - End of The Road, enhanced by the great delivery of Mr.Lee Small
  11. Categorizing music is important mainly to record stores back in the days because why on earth a jazz fans waste his time in rock sections, and sometimes rock fans don't really like metal so browsing a hard rock / AOR is much more fun. In Japan, a record store called Disk Union even rent like 7-8 different stores for each genre, usually rock and metal in one store, classic and jazz is at another store, reggae, etc. But for ourselves as a music fan, hm not really necessary I guess, in my library, I just sort my Cd alphabetically
  12. then you come to the right place welcome dude
  13. I think it's worth to buy from musicbuymail, haven't put my order yet but i guess they still have the 30% closing discount sale ? anyway, after two spins, I like it, slightly weaker than 'Enough Rope' but it's an enjoyable album
  14. The problem with STEEL PANTHER is actually because they're doing really well with their career, in fact, one of the most successful bands of this new era. And with success, comes huge stack of cash and an endless dates of concert and the only way to really write songs are on tour bus and hotel rooms. Back in the days, Bon Jovi, Poison, etc will have no problem of doin' this, they can write some killers while on tour, but remember they're still in their mid 20s back then, hungry and full of energy, while Steel Panther is a veteran musician in their mid 40s and with those exhausting dates and party maybe, most of the times they need the rest so no way they can write properly This is my early view that after the great and creative first two albums, they're on a downward path because ironically they're gaining more fame and fortune now. The fourth one is clearly the weakest and i think it's hard to bounce back again to the first two. I like 'Goin in The Back Door', 'Anything Goes', 'I Got What You Want', and 'Poontang Boomerang', but sadly all of em can't even hit 9.0 mark, and the rest are mostly filler materials, especially songs like 'Now The Fun Starts' which ain't fun at all, or 'Pussy Ain't Free' well well i don't mind payin' but cmon gimme the good stuff a 70% mark sounds reasonable for this one
  15. what No Way Out are you guys talkin' bout ? thought it's No Way Back eh ? anyway, it's a killer song but 'Killing Me' is the real killer i guess
  16. Yeah, well deserved indeed, love the early releases and also Vanishing too, finally am able to grab a Jap copy of this, and hopefully they/he get(s) a proper reissue of 'Vanishing' and the EP on a proper silver pressed CD
