  1. Agreed, I built a deck with my brother a month ago and we just looked at each other like... what happened. Never used to have those issues getting up and down all day 5 years ago when we did the same thing
  2. And if you have nothing to do at night check out Rock of Ages playing in the city.
  3. You might have to jump on a tram from the Egyptian Museum to Dixons in Fitzroy. That said though there are heaps of cafes on the same street that Dixons is on so you could check out some of them on the way. I went to both Dixons (Camberwell and Blackburn) on the same day about 3 weeks ago. The Blackburn one destroyed it and was cheaper than the Camberwell one. To be honest it depends on the day/stock they have when you visit. Definitely check out Realm of Kaos as they stock Jap pressings, older out of print stuff.... you are more likely to find something for your collection there than the Dixons, and they'll play the CD for you as well. You can also get music dvds, LPs, shirts and other stuff there. It's close to the city (a 10min walk) and go on a day when the Victoria Market is open coz it's only a couple of mins away. Hmmm, across the road from the Vic Market there is also another CD store that was OK but I haven't been there for a couple of years. It's called Heartland Rcords: http://heartlandrecords.com.au/ So definitely allocate a couple of hrs to go to the Vic Market and both of those stores. Have a great trip!
  4. You should check out the following: Real of Kaos - http://www.realmofkaos.com/ Radical Records - http://www.radicalrecords.com.au/index.php 2nd hand store Dixon's recycled: http://www.dixons.com.au/ I haven't been to the Dandenong store but of the other 3 the Blackburn is definitely the biggest and best. There is no longer a Metal for Melbourne or Metal Labyrinth store. Hope this helps a litte.
  5. Don't Come Easy still sounds awesome today and I reckon Hall of the Mountain King production fits the CD perfectly. I would probably avoid a remaster of both of those unless it was a double CD with bonus goodies etc.
  6. I love a lot of those albums listed especially the criminally underrated Mud Slick CD. The singer sounds like Soto at times and the guitar playing is awesome. It's only let down by the last track and a heavy track that seems out of place with the rest of the CD, but still a cool track. Check it out! As for others definitely Lilian Axe's Psychoschizophrenia, Bulletboys - ZaZa, Screaming Jets - Tear of Thought and I would imagine much more!
  7. Best zombie flick from the past few years is definitely REC and REC2 IMO. Note that they are Spanish. The first one got remade as Quarantine in the US.
  8. This is a real shame, would have bought the CD based on the samples on the site but I refuse to pay for MP3s!
  9. Hey Geoff, not liking their first 3 CDs is blasphemy. May the metal gods spank you with a pink strawberry flavoured paddle! Anyway, did anyone buy this? Is it any good?
  10. looks like andrew missed that, i can't find any High Gear on his archives I think I did miss it actually. Sometimes promos arrive late and get swept aside by the latest titles that just need doing asap. In the same situation right now. Don't know where to start....maybe 100 CDs really need reviewing! BTW - When the new site launches - ALL archive reviews will be listed and searchable A-Z (when I get time to move them over (but all news ones will be immediate) and also searchable via scores etc... Looking at making a change to how I rate CDs for the new site. Just haven't decided on 1-100 or 1-10. Out of interest, how many times do you listen to a CD in order to review it? Wow, that's a hard one. How often can you properly review a disc after a few listens or a week. These days I try not to review anything until I've listened to it for a year or two (and I keep wanting to listen to it). I would hate Andrew's job though. Imagine forcing yourself to listen to crap.... which is why I guess he created the site in the first place, to listen to and spread the word of good music.
  11. Totally agree with Nightrain.... Scenes was their last good record and I'm not sure how you turn around a 10 year drought without one of the driving forces.
  12. I amhappy to buy and give this one a go. To be honest, and I am obviously in the minority but I reckon HF have played it safe for far too long. I dig the band and I love zombies and I reckon Pontus is one of the best guitarists going around so I'll be listening with open ears
  13. Yeah the age is an issue for Cruise but he can do sleazy really well. To be honest I've not liked him in anything since the first Mission Impossible and I thought Tropic Thunder was horrible as well. Check out Magnolia, he doesn't have a big part.... freaky movie! At the end of the day I think it's really cool that this is being made into a big budget flick. Wonder how much of a change it will be from the stageshow (plot, style etc.) as well as the music. Looking at the director looks like it might be pretty close to the stageshow.... here's hoping!
  14. This is likely a boot from a show gig but obviously I don't know. I stopped following the band after Scene from a Memory (stellar CD!) but given the fan club or bootleggers have released their gigs performing Master of Puppets, Dark Side of the Moon, Number of the Beast etc. I think this would fall into the same category?
  15. Where have people been grabbing this CD from?
  16. Awesome news, can't wait. This CD just continues to grow and grow on me!
  17. Yep, I watched this on VHS when it was released and the medley was on that. Doesn't look like the DVD has it tho You can get the medley (Love of my Life + More Than Words) here... http://www.4shared.com/get/z0M5Vxr6/Queen__Extreme_-_Live_At_Fredd.html
  18. thanks for the info because i remember listening to the radio years ago, after love of my life, they continue with 'more than words' but ain't fading out, they play a complete song so i'm wondering 'where did they get that version', or maybe did they edit that themselves ? dunno Hmmm, that might have been from the Freddie Mercury tribute concert? I think they used to do it live, I used to have a few live bootlegs back in the day but not anymore
  19. I saw this in Melbourne a month or so ago and I have to say I had a ball. From the minut you get to the venue 80s hair metal is playing in the foyer, nice and loud. Kind of like being in a cool bar or club back in the day. From there it only gets better. The band were awesome, especially the lead guitarist.... nice and loud. The show had some hot chicks and was a good laugh. Check it out. HSF, Cruise can do good sleazy..... remember Magnolia and Tropic Thunder?
  20. Nothing worth having after Empire, even that was a 'safe' album so the writing was on the wall. It would be better if they split and as individuals in other bands maybe they could do something semi-interesting again.
  21. I've been looking at getting the Extragraffitti EP for a while, not sure why as there's not much on it worth having. I think it's just coz I love Pornograffitti. Anyway, I saw this on Wikipedia... a 3CD version of Extragraffitti. It's a totally different CD to the original and seems to be full of live and b-sides. Info below. Anyone know anything about it? Is it a boot? Anyone seen one? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extragraffitti EP Edition "Get The Funk Out" "Decadence Dance" (Edit) "Mutha (Don't Wanna Go To School Today)" (Remix) "Little Girls" (Edit) "Kid Ego" "Nice Place To Visit" "Message From Extreme!" 3-CD Edition Disc 1 "Simon Sezz" (Demo) "What Can I Say" (Demo) "Mr. Bates" (Demo) "Adam & Adam" (Demo) "Americocaine" (Demo) "Funky Metal Holiday" (Demo) "Play With Me" (Live) "Rest In Peace" (Live) "Play That Funky Music" (Live)* * Wild Cherry cover version (1976). 22. I love covers of pop etc. especially when some cool guitars are added and a decent singer lets rip. I've been collecting them for years and sneakily put them on when non rock/metal heads are around. It's a way of getting to listen to decent music when normally you couldn't Some of my favourite covers are: Bad Romance - Halestorm Big Cock - She's A Lady Black Betty - Electric Boys Crazy - Iron Saviour Dangerzone - Jettblack DonĀ“t Pay The Ferryman - Twinball Drift Away - Anatomic Eye Of The Tiger - At Vance Girls Just Want to Have Fun - Trick or Treat Help - Johnny Lima Hungry Like The Wolf - Guild Of Ages I Turn To You - WigWam I'll Make You Happy - Rick Springfield I'm So Excited - SunNSteel Knowing Me, Knowing You - Tad Morose Logical Song - At Vance Love Hurts - Darren Smith Band Mrs. Robinson - Kik Tracee Music - Metalium My Number - Lillian Axe Playing To Win - Dungeon Rock The Casbah - Trust Co S.O.S - At Vance Shout - At Vance Suddenly - From The Inside Take On Me - Vision Divine The Chain - Seven Witches The Neverending Story - Dragonland The Wind Beneath My Wings - Sonata Arctica The Winner Takes It All - At Vance
  23. Hey Jez, what are these reissues like and how different do they sound? Not sure if I can grab these after living with the originals for so long!
  24. Agreed, I've been playing this non-stop off youtube. Love this!
