  1. You can't tell me these guys are serious and not taking the piss...
  2. Yeah those are some pricey tickets! As for the old Steel Panther debate...I think if there was no difference between SP and other bands of the same genre then this debate wouldn't come up so often. Clearly there is something different about SP and IMO it is two things 1. The embarrassingly crude-in your face lyrics and 2. The tongue-in-cheek / take the piss image. Musically they are great - I have never disputed that, but the lyrics and image do prevent me from liking this band. I don't know how to explain it any better. Pick a band...Skid Row, Winger, Ratt, Dokken for example. They each had a certain hard rock / glam image (some more than others) and songs about sex / hookers / pussy...whatever...but the difference is that those bands lived and breathed the whole 80s / early 90s hard rock scene and were serious about being a part of that music scene. Their lyrics were (generally) more subtle and their image was fitting with what was popular at that time. Fast forward a couple of decades and here comes Steel Panther going over the top with their crude lyrics and image, taking the piss out of those bands who came before them. Just look at photos of these guys...it's all a joke. The crude lyrics are so in your face it makes their music almost embarrassing to play loud in front of friends and family. Look no offence to anyone else and I respect that you like SP but not for me and those are my reasons why. Glad you enjoy em...I seriously am. I'm with Lindsay and would love to hear a serious effort from them under a different name.
  3. I dunno, not one of my fave bands in history but I always thougt 'Panama' was cool and 'Hot For Teacher' and 'Why Can't This Be Love'. Not enough of a fan to list 10.
  4. Yeah as bad as the feedback has been about this latest JSS project, I am a big fan of the guy and I am keen to check this out. I'm not expecting to like it based on what others have said but there is a glimmer of hope in the comments by Glen that I might enjoy a song or two, at least. Will let you know how that goes.
  5. Been playing Valentine a bit the last few days. Absolutely brilliant songs!! Agreed the production isn't as good as those albums listed early in this topic but overall it's more than tolerable. Strange though how their can be such a difference with the same guy producing this as 'Everybody's Crazy', for example.
  6. Hey mate, this was about the time I saw you guys and I thought your setlist was incredible. I love the first 3 song EP, but as far as I could tell, that was only a tiny portion of a good banquet of great songs you had at the time. Would there be any chance you guys would throw together an album of these songs from that era? I saw you live and it was great for the 40mins or so I stood there watching, but my memory is shit, especially 10+ years later and now I couldn't tell one of those songs from a mosquito buzzing by. I'd love something to hold onto and play again, to enjoy what I really thought were great songs. Really get to know them. I hate live albums generally, but even if you released a (well recorded, please) live album of one of your sets, just playing all that awesome stuff from that era... I have a feeling that if those songs were as good as I remembered, there would be solid demand for this material. Any thoughts on something like that? +1 that would be amazing!! ?
  7. Hi Geoff, I guess I'm in a reliable position to answer your questions! ;-) We are doing this show (and another one or two) for our reunion. We are very much representing the "Crazy"-era of the band. The core three original members are featured - myself, Kyle Ross on lead guitar, and Steve Cox on bass. Longtime drummer Luciano Alvaro (played on A Dark Obsession and with me in Moments Apart) will be with us, and our friend Anth Nekich is the newcomer on rhythm guitar. Setlist I'll keep a secret, but it's exclusively material we played live from 2002-2005. Really looking forward to playing at Melodic Rock Fest and dusting off some really old songs. Come say g'day if you make it to the show - we'll be on early! Thanks mate... as I mentioned in the other thread I just replied to; would love to see some kind of recording of these songs available for the interested public. I did actually try very hard to make attending this gig happen for me, but in end I just had to pull the pin. The ticket prices are incredible value, and I had some really cheap accomodation lined up too, literally just around the corner from the venue. The part that raped me was the cost of getting there and back - it was just going to end up stupid, and with a 3 week overseas holiday coming up with the wife and 2 kids; plus my wife still being on (unpaid) maternity leave until July... it was just going to be way too much to try and make this happen. Shame, as I originally thought I might be able to get $100 return flights... but even then, when I read the fine print, they were to and from Avalon, which would have been another huge mass of money to get to and from too, I am sure. Not that those $100 return flights ever re-appeared on my searches after my initial search. After that it was all far more expensive flights, at unmanageable times of day too. Yep, I tried, but maybe next time; if the location gets changed to Sydney. Yeah I know what your saying...We're in the same position but going to go anyway. The ticket prices for MRFAU are great but by the time we look at accommodation and flights, it's going to be an expensive weekend. Still the line-up is great and I am excited to be going regardless of the cost. It's a real shame Mitch pulled out, not the biggest drawcard for most people but for me I had been playing all of his albums since the line-up was announced trying to become more familiar with his work after his debut. His second album is surprisingly much better than I remembered. Can't wait to see BB Steal, Teargas and of course White Widdow and Serpentine Sky...and The Radio Sun and Paul Laine and Eclipse. So yeah pretty much the whole line-up. Are Vanishing Point good live these days, does anybody know? Also Kaata and Tonk - both I am unfamiliar with - any songs worth checking out on Youtube to get me interested?
  8. This won't be for everyone, more the AOR / westcoast crowd. But sounds nice to me and one that I'm looking forward to. Agree with G re the project name.
  9. Loved these guys back in their early days, around 2004ish I think. Good fun Aussie hard rock. Better live than on record though.
  10. never heard of the other 2...I can see why it's confusing now, We actually got the name from the Springsteen song 'Adam Raised a Cain' if you really wanted to know Ha ok. Yeah I was just going through some band photos yesterday and came across that.
  11. Ok think I have this worked out now, it's not Rising Cain, Cain's Offering or Raise Cain...it's Cain Rising. Seriously though, this album is really cool and I think others should give it a go.
  12. The only DVDs I've bought in the last 3 years have been 3 'Paw Patrol' DVDs and 2 'Thomas The Tank Engine' ones... Haha yeah Paw Patrol is popular at my place too my daughter loves it! Not available on 4K Ultra HD though ? Seriously though and more on topic, I can definitely notice a difference between DVD and Blue-Ray especially on my music DVDs - look at the the extra detail of the instruments and peoples faces. As for the 4K / HD etc. I can't really comment because I'm not even sure that I've seen one. But most likely not for me as I'm not too picky with video quality.
  13. Yeah cool song. Shame there is no more.
  14. From westcoastmusic: This compilation includes tracks carefully selected from ones featuring Steve Lukather. Supervised by Steve Lukather himself. Includes his comments on tracks. Cover artwork uses photo(s) shot at rehearsal in their first tour in Japan in 1980 (subject to change). Features Blu-spec CD2 format. Comes with a description. Tracklist: BACK ON THE ROAD / Earth.Wind & Fire, BREAKDOWN DEAD AHEAD / Boz Scaggs, YOU NEED SOME LOVIN' / Eric Carmen, AI NO CORRIDA / Quincy Jones, I WANT YOU / The Brothers Johnson, HERO WITH A 1.000 EYES / Steve Lukather, HOLD ME 'TIL THE MORNIN' COMES / Paul Anka, FOREVER (ALBUM VERSION) / Kenny Loggins, PARADISE / Sarah Dash, A CLUE / Boz Scaggs, LADY IN THE DARK (ALBUM VERSION) / Valerie Carter, 12 LOVIN' AND LOSIN' YOU / Dwayne ford, ALONE / I-Ten, TWIST THE KNIFE / Steve Lukather, TAKE ME TO YOUR HEAVEN / Wilson Brothers, WHATEVER HAPPENED / Dane Donohue, PLEASE STAY TUNED (ALBUM VERSION) / Chet Atkins Good work Stefan, thanks ☺ Looks interesting! So it's just a compilation album? It's a cool concept, but it doesn't sound essential. Especially if you already own some of the albums they're feature. And if like me you don't own many of the albums from which these songs originated, it might be more of interest.

  16. Steve Lukather - Session Works (March 2) This looks interesting. Anyone know anything about this?
  17. Another aspect to this discussion is the new/independent bands selling their self released CDs through their own website - we must support these guys IMO and buy their CDs direct from them.
  18. That first track you posted 'Live This' is pretty darn good. Simple but very catchy and melodic - not what I was expecting at all. Just playing some more tracks now- hope they are all like this one! Nice find!!
  19. Thanks for the kind words mate. If you don't mind, i'll add them to some of other reviews and comments we've had back over on our FB page. All pub is good pub as they say Thanks again for taking the time to have a listen and comment No problem. ☺
  20. Another great list - love lots of those albums too. Finally heard that Dallas EP the other day- excellent stuff. Forgot about that Trust Company CD will have to revisit that one.
  21. All nice selections and some I forgot eg WET.
  22. First Signal... Lol. Come on I don't think it was even in my top 10 that year First Signal was/is awesome and was in my top 5!!!First Signal > Coup de Grace Neither are the best album of the millenium tho. What is then? Seriously. I'm obviously missing out. Here's a few that are WAY better than First Signal IMO. Treat wouldn't be far off this list with CDG. I could list more contenders from bands that don't quite fit the HH mould. 91 Suite s/t AdrianGale - Crunch Blanc Faces - s/t Frontline - Against the World Guild if Ages - Citadel Harem Scarem - Higher Jaded Heart - The Journey Will Never End Journey - Revelation Loverboy - Just Getting Started Pink Cream 69 - In10sity Place Vendome - s/t TNT - My Religion Work of Art - Artwork Not for me. Love/like all those, but not better than Treats CDG. He also completely ignored The Magnificent. Hmm can't really comment- I think the hype surrounding them was at a time when I was a bit preoccupied with life and not paying much attention to new releases...will rectify this problem now.

The question of best album of the millennium- I'm still not sure but Loverboy and Frontline are superb releases. I suspect my answer might be a non HH band though will have to think more about it.
  24. Yeah I must admit I have been using Spotify a lot in the last week or so after getting a new mobile and not one cent has gone to any of the artists. I do wonder how much the artist benefits from streaming music. $0.007 per play is about it, so we are getting sweet bugger all, unless you get played thousands upon thousands of times per day. Pay per track downloaded or buy the full download/ CD is the only way we'll ever get any money back for our hard work. Wow so 143 listens of a song on Spotify = $1 for the artist(s). Seems as though Spotify users are hardly supporting the artists either. This seems like it may be a simplified way of looking at it but that's what the math says.
