Listened to my copy of "September Sessions" today. Damn fine album. I even give it the edge over "Machines and Robots". All five tracks are good on this one. And, the ballad "Make Me Believe", I think I've already stated how I feel about that song. This is great modern melodic hard rock people. One of the reasons I come to this board is to check out new bands that people recommend. Kudos to the starter of this thread. Keep 'em coming. Chris Kudos to you too my friend - just gave you another one today...Adelitas Way. Unsigned too
  2. Havent heard these guys before but these songs are amazing! How the F is this band unsigned???! 'So What If You Go' and 'My Derailment' (check that solo! ) are bloody great songs. Period. http://www.myspace.com/adelitasway If anyone can give me any news on these guys I would well appreciate it. Cheers Glen
  3. Story Of The Year - The Black Swan Ive been walking around all day chanting 'to the grave'....must sound well scary! F awesome song though.

I think that 'Morphine' is fast becoming my fav song of 08 so far. Killer song, killer EP - as you say its a shame its not a full album. Where did you get this from? I would love to pick this up but can't find it anywhere.... Not widely available outside of Canada/US. The link on the web page goes to Maple Records, but the shipping times/expense is silly. Try Amazon.com - they will still ship to UK and times/costs are much better/lower. All their other stuff is on UK itunes if you want that.
  5. Yeah, I listened at their Myspace page and was quite impressed - what's the full album like? This one is great, mate. I keep using this word, but I guess only when I hear a good band which means there's a few going round, but it's collection of good, strong emotive tunes. If I had to pick a comparison I'd say Goo Goo Dolls, but don't let it decide it for you one way or another. This is just a great disc. New spins: Seventh Day Slumber - 'Finally awake' A New Revolution - 'Rise' Tupelo Honey - 'Machines and robots' The New Shining - 'Supernatural showdown' After spinning a heap of crap I am finally reaping the rewards of persistence as these are all fantastic. do you ever listen to anything apart from modern rock? Sorry mate, but I just fully disagree with what that question means. I only listen to hard rock. If people have to say these bands are so separate to HOL or Brother Firetribe, that's their loss. There's solos on all these albums; there's big riffs, big choruses... everything that makes me listen to the latest HOL or Brother Firetribe. I personally don't think I'm listening to something different. Every reason I love HOl and Brother Firetribe is the same reason I love these bands. Break down these barriers, mate, and just enjoy music for what it is. I agree 100% - the fact is that so far this year quite a few modern releases like Story Of The Year, Simple Plan, Tupelo Honey, Pillar, Theory of A Deadman etc are better than most MHR efforts.....aside from Brother Firetribe, WOA and Khymera........and so definitely deserve the attention they are receiving - from me anyhow. I am eagerly awaiting some upcoming releases though which will radically change this - namely Harem Scarem, Journey, Marcello/Vestry, Bob Catley.....these will put MHR firmly back on the map in 08.

  7. EXPERIMENTAL = DREADFUL. Nuff said. The songs at his Myspace were enough for me.
  8. Michael Bormann - For Just A Little While Killer AOR.
  9. Michael Bormann - Capture The Moment Part Zzzz, part good, part killer.
  10. Yeah, I listened at their Myspace page and was quite impressed - what's the full album like?
  11. Story Of The Year - Black Swan Tupelo Honey - Machines & Robots (EP) Anberlin - Never Take...........
  12. That is one of my all time fav songs! My song of the day - Tupelo Honey - Morphine
  13. Oh yes........... http://www.myspace.com/anewrevolution Check out Love To Hate, Rise and NME

The actual song 'Machines & Robots' is excellent as well - 2 of the best modern rock songs Ive heard this year.
  15. Track off their 2008 EP Machines & Robots called 'Morphine'........... http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=GB_-NodXp-o This rocks IMO. Killer vocals.
  16. Just noticed this, I have this album as well (though with a different running order to yours). It's not bad, not exactly Simple Plan, but it does have some very strong tracks on it. "Desperate" is a Max Martin song so though a bit formulaic it has an amazing hook. They actually remind me of recent HANSON stuff (I know this would normally mean instant embarrassment but their last album was pretty cool). Decent lite Modern Rock.... I actually only have a cdr from my bro and I noticed when I checked on Amazon that the track running order is different to that which I have - weird.....also not sure if this was released prior to 08 and has been re-issued....I'll have to check. I fully intend to get this soon though as IMO the song-writing is top notch. Light maybe, but as you say the hooks are definitely there in abundance and that is fine by me. I think my fav is 'Its Not Over' - just love that chorus. I probably have the same thing, mate. The third track on my copy (could be 'It's not over'?) is a beautiful ballad. That one's stunning. There are two fillers (title track and another one that sounds like it) but you know what, I have to admit this is really pretty damn good. On my copy 9-11 are all rockier and they sound great. One thing I know for sure, though, guys, is you two have officially worn out your right to make fun of my past enthusiasm for Pacific Avenue as these guys are on par with them. I haven't seen any photos of these guys, but are they a band or just a boyband with guitars? Me make fun of you - surely not Seriously I never said a word about your opinions on Pacific Avenue - and Ive never heard it either - perhaps I should? The beautiful ballad you refer to is 'Desperate' and yes it is excellent - one of my fav ballads so far this year and with 'Its Not Over' these are the 2 standout tracks on offer. Ive seen a photo and I would say 'boyband with guitars' (unfortunately)...still I aint sticking a poster on me wall or going to their gigs....just listening to their music
  17. My fave is my Song of Today: STORY OF THE YEAR - Wake Up Mine - STORY OF THE YEAR - Message To The World This song is an absolute stunner. Period.

  19. Great song! Back on topic - 'Keep On Dreaming' - H.E.A.T.
  20. This is exactly what I thought of their last album. Thanks for the info, I'll pass on this one.... H.E.A.T - "S/T" Europe-wannabees from Sweden making a so/so AOR album. There are a couple of really strong tunes, & I notice this is getting a fair bit of hype, but it's mostly forgettable stuff IMO. The vocals are weak & - whereas they really do sound a little like early Europe ("Final Countdown"-era) - it really wouldn't have stood out amongst stuff like Alien/Glory/Treat/Skagarack/Peo/Bad Habit/Talk of the Town/Big Talk etc etc in the Scandi AOR heydey. I notice Jim Jidhed's debut has just been remastered (with bonus cuts), & if you want top class Swedish AOR buy that instead. Oh, & with their coiffured hair/open shirts/bandanas etc, they look f***ing ridiculous in 2008. I really like it (H.E.A.T. that is.....).
  21. Awesome song, awesome album.... A true masterpiece. {And I don't hand out 's lightly} Arguably the finest ballad ever recorded? What, better than 'It's A Little Too Late'? Surely not
