  2. I was with Sprint for 7+ years and walked away in December. I went the Virgin Mobile route. No contract, you buy the phone, jump ship any time you want. You can even vary your plan month to month, depending on anticipated usage. How much of a talker are you? I'm not, so I wanted to get by with the cheapest plan possible. I've got 300 minutes + unlimited texts + unlimited Internet for $25/month + tax (net $26.88/month). They have a 1200-minute plan for $40/month and unlimited for $60/month. VM uses Sprint's network. The phone I'm using is an LG Optimus V (Android 2.2). -Dan
  3. I'm probably the last person who should comment, as I'm not a "family person" in any way, shape or form. I haven't spoken with my father in over 5 years. That said, I'll agree with the majority. Worst case scenario: you can always walk away. Just guard yourself and don't get roped into any commitments by him or the girlfriend playing on emotion or obligation. -Dan
  4. Be forewarned though, while their look screams '80s Motley Crue, their sound doesn't. Don't get me wrong; I like it, but MC it ain't. -Dan
  5. You beat me to it. The new CD just came out today. $9.99 at Best Buy. Since I'd only ever heard one of the tracks off the first CD on Octane, I picked up both CDs today. I've added both of them to HH: http://www.heavyharmonies.com/cgi-bin/glamcd.cgi?BandNum=5945&CDName=We+Stitch+These+Wounds&Letter=A http://www.heavyharmonies.com/cgi-bin/glamcd.cgi?BandNum=5945&CDName=Set+the+World+on+Fire&Letter=A Their first CD, which came out last year, is a cross between HIM and Avenged Sevenfold. The use of distorted/growling vocals part of the time is a bit offputting at times. I'm happy to say that those vocals are pretty much gone on the new CD. It is definitely a guitar-driven album. Here are a couple of hi-res tracks: http://www.heavyharmonies.com/audio/bvb_loveisntalwaysfair.mp3 http://www.heavyharmonies.com/audio/bvb_rebellovesong.mp3 There's some filler, but overall I'm liking what I hear; am not all the way through the new CD yet. What's funny to me is that some reviewers are criticizing the new album for bring too "retro" and "80s", wishing they had kept the more Avenged Sevenfold sound, yet to me the move is in the right direction and makes it more HH-worthy. Go figure.
  6. Unfortunately the answer to both is "no". Not without a significant overhaul. -Dan
  7. 99% of the time, when someone tries to register and never gets the email, the culprit is spam filtering. You've got spam filtering done by the email software client, the email provider, some ISPs, and sometimes at points in between. -Dan
  8. It's somehow appropriate that the 13,000th CD added to Heavy Harmonies is Night Ranger - Somewhere in California. Night Ranger has been a mainstay on the American melodic rock scene for almost 30 years now (although I still think their debut is the best work they ever did). This would be an appropriate time to thank Mike (whiplash1972) for doing yeoman's work on keeping up with the submissions and pictures. I'm so busy these days that the time I actually spend on the site is tiny compared to what Mike has been doing. I also want to thank Mike, Ty, and Pete for the moderator work they do here on the board. Lastly, thanks to the HH community members who continue to enjoy the world of AOR, hard rock, and melodic metal! Now, on to the next 13,000... -Dan
  9. Wow. That Styx rating shocks me. They must have really fallen off in recent years. They came through here on the Cyclorama tour back in 2004 (?) and they put on a great show. They sounded great... at least back then. -Dan
  10. Ugh. That 1.5-minute intro is a guy who's in love with himself. Reminds me of a modern-day Wayne Newton, or the character Gilderoy Lockhart in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
  11. Listened to a couple tracks from this last night. Definitely on my MUST NOT BUY list for 2011. Sickeningly bad. -Dan
  12. Ugh! Too much work. I'm more of a "set it and forget it" kinda guy... -Dan
  13. Available on U.S. Amazon as mp3 album for immediate download for $7.99.
  14. Jaded Heart's cover of The Backstreet Boys "Larger Than Life" ftw.
  15. I've updated the radio feed to all 2011 releases. I'm going to be running into a bit of a problem later in the year though. By increasing the quality to 96kbps, the number of tracks I can upload is much lower. I'm at 93% of capacity and we're not even at the half way point in the year. That means either removing existing tracks with each update, or moving to a higher package. The problem with the latter approach is that the radio feed generates zero revenue and moving to a package with a meaningful increase in diskspace means at least tripling the current monthly cost. I don't think there are enough cumulative listening hours to justify that expense... http://www.live365.com/stations/151867?play At any rate, here is the new lineup: Alyson Avenue - Always Keep On Loving You - Changes (2011) Alyson Avenue - Liar - Changes (2011) Alyson Avenue - Somewhere - Changes (2011) Benedictum - Beautiful Pain - Dominion (2011) Benedictum - Dark Heart - Dominion (2011) Benedictum - Epsilon - Dominion (2011) Black 'N Blue - Falling Down - Hell Yeah! 17. Apparently not just here. Quite a few people on Andrew's board calling the rating bollocks as well...
  18. I listened to this album again today. Completely not memorable. I think Andrew has seriously jumped the shark with his 100% rating. Not even close, to these ears.
  19. Hold that thought. I need to give the station lineup an overdue overhaul. Maybe this extended weekend is the time for it. -Dan
  20. My 2 cents: Not a horrible album, but won't be in my top 5 of the year. Gone are the over-the-top choruses that one used to associate with "Journey" and it seems more of a vehicle for Schon's noodling than anything else. It's almost as if the vocals are an afterthought. Maybe Schon should just cut to the chase, call it a prog album, and be done with it. -Dan
  21. Way better than I was expecting... excellent chorus! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lReDM62Jqsg
  22. pls wud u ship my cd to red lion, pa. i send u munny laters. kthksbai
  23. Reminds me of something George Carlin said: "You know how I define the economic and social classes in this country? The upper class keeps all of the money, pays none of the taxes. The middle class pays all of the taxes, does all of the work. The poor are there... just to scare the shit out of the middle class! Keep 'em showing up at those jobs!" Let's not spoil a good rant with facts, eh? The fact is that at least in the United States, the top 5% of taxpayers pay 95% of the tax revenue the government collects. On a PERCENTAGE basis, the rich pay lower than you or I due to the ceiling on SS contributions and the greater availability of tax shelters and writeoffs, but in terms of dollars paid into the government by econmic strata, it's not even close... -Dan P.S. The RIAA can suck my left testicle.
  24. *shudder* That's one of my worst nightmares. I haven't done a formal job interview in over 15 years. I wouldn't know what to say or do. I'd probably come off sounding like Mongo: "Uhh... me know computers. Me write web pages and do end-user support and do desktop publishing and... uhh... stuff." Yeek. -Dan
  25. Actually, even though the singer is an unknown, the sound samples on Amazon sound really good. I'll have to pick this one up. As for Victory discs, I've reassmbled most of their discography except for the 2 most recent discs and the S/T (which I had originally). Regarding the difference in audio quality between the two pressings of Don't Get Mad..., what exactly is the difference? I have the Mercenary pressing. -Dan
