  1. Out this week. Just picked it up this morning. I liked Tri-Polar; definitely for "modern hard rock" fans. This acoustic EP is a reworking of some of their biggest tracks. Some of them have a COMPLETELY different feel than they did on the original album. It's available for download from iTunes and Amazon (link below with samples). The CD version has 1 additional track not found on the electronic versions and is a Wal-Mart exclusive (at least for now). So 7 tracks on the download version and 8 tracks on the physical CD version. http://www.amazon.com/Polar-Opposite/dp/B004MUKE7I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1299275371&tag=heavyharmonies&sr=8-1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kU_2q3K1VnQ The disc was $8 at my local Wally World. Sonically, the production quality is absolutely stellar; the mix is very dynamic and rich. Unless the downloadable versions are completely uncompressed, i'd lean towards buying the CD and making your own rip.
  2. Really no different from Joe Elliot/Axl Rose/Jani Lane actually... a legend in his own mind. How many of our favorite frontment from back in the day acted like this daily? It's just that back then there's wasn't a 24-7 media to make it BREAKING NEWS! on a minute's notice. Considering that 2.5 Men was at the top of the ratings charts and Sheen could have ridden this cash horse for a few more seasons just goes to prove how much of a stupid fucking idiot he is... -Dan
  3. HARD “ROCKAHOLICS” WARRANT PREPARE NEW ALBUM AND SIGN TO FRONTIERS RECORDS Frontiers Records is proud to announce the signing of Warrant, one of the most popular and successful American hard rock bands to come out of the Los Angeles musical scene. The band is currently in the studio recording a brand new album under the direction of Keith Olsen (Scorpions, Whitesnake and Night Ranger). The album tentatively titled “ROCKAHOLIC” is scheduled for a May 2011 Worldwide release. Jerry Dixon commented, “The last few years has been like holding in a big “secret“ from the world and now we get to share it. I really think we captured a perfect mix of the past and present on this record. Each song has its own vibe that’s going to take people on a kick-ass Warrant rollercoaster ride. To help achieve an old school sound mixed with the flair of today, we called on the legendary Keith Olsen to do the production. There’s enough 80’s influence on songs like “Tears In The City” & “Sex Ain’t Love” to keep the die-hard Warrant fans rocking while introducing them to new material”. Warrant has sold over 8 million records worldwide. The band first came into the spotlight with their debut multiplatinum album “Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich”, which included the smash hit single “Heaven.” The band continued its success in the 90's with the multiplatinum album “Cherry Pie” and the gold album “Dog Eat Dog”, both albums providing more hit singles in the Billboard Top 30.”ROCKAHOLIC” is sure to add more Billboard action for the band. With singer Robert Mason on lead vocals and original band members Erik Turner and Joey Allen on guitars, Jerry Dixon on bass and Steven Sweet on drums Warrant is ready to spread the ROCKAHOLIC addiction to the world. 2011 Rockaholic Schedule: March: US Tour April 29th – May 9th Australia Tour May 13th - M3 Rock Festival September: South America Tour October: European Tour Web links: http://www.warrantrocks.com / http://www.frontiers.it
  4. Love the song! Has a very vintage Meat Loaf vibe to it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnsTrxOS_r0
  5. A few weeks?? Try months!! I don't know how many CDs get submitted in a given week but goddamn, it shouldn't take MONTHS to add a CD to the site. I also feel as a newbie my opinions don't matter. Hell, I don't even get many responses when I post topics so I move on to other sites where you don't have to be in a clique to make friends. Just my humble opinion. And which CD are you complaining about not being added? There's also the possibility that one of the moderators decided that the disc/band wasn't appropriate for HH. Clique? Really? Wow...
  6. Every time I read something like this I want to rip my hair out and scream. And then I have to remind myself that not everyone is watching on a large screen. The larger the screen, the greater the visible difference. I have two TVs in my house, both 70"+. The difference between HD and upscaled SD is huge. I just won't watch SD material any more. I keep concert DVDs around simply because it's more of an audible experience and the material isn't available on Blu-Ray, but as far as movies, I think I might own 3 or 4 non-HD discs any more. If you're not seeing a difference between HD and upscaled SD, either (1) the system is configured incorrectly, or (2) the screen is too small. But even in the latter scenario, the difference in color palette alone in HD over SD is a visible difference. The best music Blu-Rays in terms of visible quality: 1. Metallica - Francais Pour Une Nuit 2. Within Temptation - Black Symphony

  8. I remember it clearly. I was in college at the time. I was in the bathroom of our dorm suite (6 rooms around a central living room and bathroom) and the TV was on in the living room. I heard one of my suitemates say "Holy shit! The shuttle blew up!" I remember saying something about him making a joke in poor taste, and he said "No, it's true! Come here!" It's weird the things you remember versus those you don't, even after decades. I remember where I was when Reagan was shot by John Hinkley in 1981. I remember where I was when the OJ verdict was revealed. I remember where I was when I first heard/saw the 9/11 muslim terrorist attacks. -Dan
  9. To answer your question, Geoff, I just like that 80s sound. Honestly, I've been pretty vocal on other boards, with a friend, and in my own mind in the past criticizing modern bands for NOT having guitar solos in the songs. But that doesn't neccesarily mean that all is well if they DO decide to include a token solo....so I need to come to some definitive opinion on things. One of my friends happens to like some modern stuff and is constantly trying to get me to like it. I have sampled some stuff like Hinder(2nd album), Shinedown(whom I like), Distorted Wonderland(I like ONE song)...the others, like Taking Dawn, My Darkest Days, Nickelback, Papa Roach(i think I like a couple of songs from an album a few years ago) I just can't get into. I know right away if I like a song/group. VERY rarely is anything a grower for me. I think the term grower is a euphemism for liking it for the sake of liking it, or I have to like this because i like the group I hope I don't come across as elitist, or holier than thou...those 'modern' bands above that I like - I like them, but wouldn't neccesarily include them on this site. But again, that's just me....a personal choice that doesn't amount to jack. Not my site. And at the end of the day not a big enough deal to get into a scrape about....lol. One thing I'm a wee bit confused about.... you lament the lack of guitarwork and talk about "modern" sounding... which tells me you haven't listened to Taking Dawn at all. That album is straight out of the 80s/early 90s, just with current production. You're certainly entitled to your opinion... no matter how wrong it is.
  10. And will likely appeal to folks here more than their previous works. Just wait until you hit the chorus. Meow. First single from the album "Unforgiving", which comes out in March. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clK7UTpuuos

  13. Umm... you need to listen to more recent Linkin Park. Some fairly melodic stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51iquRYKPbs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLHpvjrFpe0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYa7RWub0g8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acgvRle07GI And my two favorites (the second is particularly bad ass, both song and video!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMePM9Q-bYk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysSxxIqKNN0
  14. Buhbye Patsies!! Nothing gives me more warm fuzzies than seeing Belicheat getting his face rubbed in shit. I like the Jets' moxy. Quite possible that my Eagles may have given the eventual superbowl winner their toughest challenge in the playoffs. I like Packers over the Jets in the Superbowl at this point.
  15. From what I can find, "V" was the bonus track on the Japanese release. The "Special Edition" appears to be digital-only. I found it on I-Tunes, but no evidence of any physical-media special edition. -Dan
  16. Reborn Classics? Wow, that's a blast from the past! Didn't those come out of Italy? I believe a lot of vintage boot stuff originated there... -Dan
  17. Fuckin' conservative assholes. I just love these kind of human beings. You need to learn what a conservative actually is. You just offended quite a few people with that statement. Not all conservatives are religious wingnuts. One can be an agnostic or atheist and still be a conservative. Moreover, one can be liberal on social issues, but conservative on fiscal/governmental issues. I consider myself to be in this latter camp. Then there are the people who will vote Republican (or Democrat) not necessarily out of any ideological agreement, but rather "the lesser of two evils." Don't parallel conservatism with religious zealotry. The two do not necessarily overlap. -Dan
  18. Those fucking douchebags again?? It takes a lot for me to wish painful death upon a whole group of people, but if ever there was a deserving group, these are them. For those unfamiliar, this is the group of religious cunts that show up at funerals for soldiers killed in action claiming that the reason for their deaths is divine retribution for America's tolerance of homosexuality. It's the batch of wingnuts that The Patriot Guard Riders was orgnized in response to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patriot_Guard_Riders
  19. Vegas collectively lost $87.2 billion on the Seahawks game today. Whodathunk?
  20. Y'all got on this boat for different reasons, but y'all come to the same place. So now I'm asking more of you than I have before. Maybe all. Sure as I know anything, I know this - they will try again. Maybe on another world, maybe on this very ground swept clean. A year from now, ten? They'll swing back to the belief that they can make people... better. And I do not hold to that. So no more runnin'. I aim to misbehave.
  21. What label is it on? I will only post samples from albums that I have an agreement with the record label, or if the band submits directly to me. [bEGIN RANT] Some labels are good about providing either physical promo CDs or full-length high resolution mp3s (Frontiers, Eonian, Sun City, Stormspell, Tribunal/Divebomb, Z Records). Others have no interest in having their material promoted here or will not provide any promo material whatsoever (Kivel, Metal Heaven). And still others have promised to get me material for YEARS, but have yet to follow up and provide anything despite repeated promises (Retrospect). If you can't tell, it's more than a little irritating to have to try and pull teeth to get promotional audio for the site... you'd think I was charging a fee for it. Then again, I've made it known for years that banner advertising on the main site is FREE for record labels and bands, yet most aren't even interested in making the effort to provide banner images or information. People don't even want shit for free... hell, maybe I should start charging for it; then they might actually show interest. [END RANT] -Dan
