What's a spinnin' in your CD player?

Recommended Posts

Well after months of MHR bliss, im back on the modern trail and a few nice discs (some new, some not so)

Before Their Eyes - Untouchable (everything apart from the first and last track is excellent)

Framing Hanley - A Promise To Burn (very good pop/rock in the Anberlin vein)

Dive - Picture Perfect (great sophomore release...this rocks with some real gems on board)

It's Alive - Human Resources (massive production and a host of influences..nice stuff)

Story Of The Year - The Constant (still excellent after many spins!)

Destine - Light Speed (still love this one too - hardly a filler on board)

I checked out the soundbytes to some of those bands as they've been getting a lot of press (Framing Hanley, It's Alive especially). They sounded okay but not really spectacular IMO. The only one I'd consider buying is IT'S ALIVE but even then it wasn't anything like as good as stuff from last year (like NURAL)...

'Its alive' is a real grower. I wasnt too fussed the first time I heard it, but with repeated listens Im really liking it now (the songs 'Pieces' and 'Dialysis' are monsters). Massive production (perhaps a little over produced) but there are some gems in the mid section.

The real winner out of those discs is Dive. A great follow up to the debut...arguably better...much more hard rocking this time round. Love that one.

I agree the Before Their Eyes and Destine are great discs... didn't know Framing Hanley and Dive were avaiable yet, but loved both their debuts so super keen to hear these. No idea who It's Alive are (though vaguely remember a thread here) but will check it out asap.

Spinning:

Pangea - 'Retrospectacular'

Rick Springfield - 'Living in Oz'

Hawthorne Heights - 'Skeletons'

Yeah, love it. Love stuff like 'Alyson', 'Me and Johnny' and 'I can't stop hurting you'. But aside from 'Souls', I like everything on this. I just love the way this fella writes a tune! :)

The new 'Dive' is excellent mate. 12 songs and not a filler for me. Not all gems obviously but very consistent. Can see you loving the ballad 'My Way'....quite a few songs remind me of the 'No Love Lost' debut.

Is that HH the new one?? I listened to some of that and whilst I like some of the choruses etc I just cant get past that teenie bopper rock sound now! The only band I can stand that sound like that is Simple Plan.

    • It's ok. I think people know I am a massive Crue fan, and I like a lot of stuff by them that people hate (the Generation Swine album for example) but the only newer original song I have cared about them in recent years was The Dirt. Everything else has been either meh or crap. I did also like their cover of Like a virgin, which I know a lot of peeps didn't like, so it's not like I am just craving the good old days. I would be happy if we could get a song close to Afraid, Saints of Los Angeles or the aforementioned The Dirt. I think songs like that will be few and far between sadly.
    • Have to agree. Although my expectations were that it would be absolutely horrible like Dogs of War lol. Still far away from classic Motley Crue but I at least made it all the way through this one so that's a positive. Still nothing to write home about but at least it rocks fairly well and there's a semblance of a song there.
    • Just ordered!   All three Magic Dance EPs (Another World, Kiss Scene and Haunting Me) combined into one CD. All new artwork, lyric booklet and three bonus tracks. Silver-pressed replication CD.     https://magicdance.bandcamp.com/album/magic-dance-the-eps
