Last movie you watched?

An older movie, but I just watched DIE ANOTHER DAY last night. I enjoyed it a lot, perhaps I was just in the mood for it. I'm not a Bond superfan, I think this was the first Peirce one I've seen but I liked him, gadgets were cool and action fun. Thinking back now, the story didn't make a lot of sense, but hey sometimes you just need a 007 fix

An absolutely INSANE British sci-fi/action/horror flick by Neil Marshall of "Dog Soldiers" and "The Descent" fame. When a unknown killer virus ravages the population of Scotland, the government deals with it by sealing the entire region off behind a giant wall and placing it under permanent quarantine.

 

30 years later the virus pops up again in London, and they send a team of specialists (led by the hot-as-hell Rhona Mitra as a warrior-woman type who's like the love child of Lara Croft and Snake Plissken) back into the "hot zone" to find any potential survivors of the plague who may be able to provide a cure. Along the way they tangle with a vicious gang of punk-rock cannibals, get captured by a mad scientist (Malcolm McDowell) who's gone medieval, and experience a whole bunch of other weird sh*t that usually ends up in decapitations, fights, explosions, and gore galore.

 

When this flick ended all I could say was, "Wow, that was nuts." It's kinda like a mish-mash of bits borrowed from "Resident Evil," "Escape From New York," and "The Road Warrior" (to name just a few) all stuffed into a blender set on "liquify." It's not Oscar material by any means, and parts of it were pretty damn silly, but on the whole it was entertaining as hell and certainly never boring!!!

Tried to watch "Full Tilt Boogie," which is a bonus documentary on my new "From Dusk Till Dawn" DVD about the making of the film, but wow, it was dull as dirt. I gave up about 40 minutes in. Rather than a straight "making of" doc (where they show you how the special effects are done, etc., etc.) this basically just followed the cast & crew around with a camera during their day-to-day doings, which isn't nearly as interesting as you might think. Maybe if you worked on the film, all these clips of people joking around and complaining about the weather, the food, etc. might make for an interesting "video scrapbook" of your experience, but for the casual viewer.... nah.

 

About all I learned was that Quentin Tarantino was still an annoying douche even when he wasn't "in character" for the movie. Seriously, I want to punch that guy.

 

So tonight I'll watch the "real" movie instead and forget about this doc.

Yeah, it was killer! Surprised I hadn't even heard of it till it turned up on my cable the other night. I just clicked on it cuz the description sounded promising.

 

I really like what I've seen of Marshall's work thus far. I haven't seen "Dog Soldiers" yet but it's on the list. I loved "The Descent" too.

Randomonious. I also watched this over the rain-drenched long weekend. Let's see what else I can remember that we watched:

 

'District 9' ; my wife hated it, but I didn't mind it. I won't go as far as to say I liked it, but it wasn't awful. It kept me pretty interested. Towards the end it got a little much, but I guess it was a half decent film. Not the norm, I guess, is what made it attractive for a while.

 

'Doomsday' ; like the gents say above, this is nothin' but action. Personally, I find these types of films pretty boring. Too much nonsense, not enough story. But it was okay for a harmless view. And as noted, the lead girl was a nice peice of sex. I got the impression all the way through this that it was a movie version of some silly computer game, and I never shook that. I also missed the specifics of what actual story there was. I'm not sure if that's because I wasn't overly interested, or if it wasn't too clear.

 

'The Hangover' ; watched this one again just because my wife needed to see something she liked. I do really rate this. Great film, very amusing. I want to see the second please.

 

'How to lose friends and alienate people' ; I wanted to turn it off after 10 minutes, but for some reason my wife actually wanted to watch this. Probably because it's like 'The Devil Wears Prada' with a British dude. He was annoying and unfunny, but thank my lord and saviour jeebers cripes for the presence of Megan Fox. Sadly, it was pre-implant Megan Fox, but she's still delightful either way. Kirstin Dunst was there too. She wasn't as sexable in this as I've seen her in other films, though. Especially compared to Megan Fox. End of the day, though, pretty shithouse story but I guess it was watchable.

 

'Drillbit Taylor' ; Why did I think this was a David Spade movie? Again, this was bad but watchable. A few kind of funny scenes... yeah, it was half watchable... but awful.

"Legend of the Bog" (a.k.a. "Bog Bodies" and "Assault of Darkness")

Below-average, not very horrific horror tale about a reanimated "Bog Body" (i.e. an ancient corpse that's been preserved in a peat bog) picking off a group of lost travelers in the Irish countryside. The so-called "Bog Body" (played by a big hulking bald guy) is one of the least scary movie monsters in recent memory. He looks like a confused pro wrestler.

 

All in all, it's kinda like "The Beast of Yucca Flats" with an Irish brogue.
