80's Pop Song of the Day

Inspired by Whiplash1972's thread.

I know we're all die hard Metal heads, but the fact is that these tracks were a big part of our lives growing up.

I'll start with three.

All three are quintessential 80s tracks IMO.

Possibly only the Aussies here will recognise the third one, maybe?

When you mention the words Aussie and Obsession in the same sentence there can be only one worthwhile outcome-

No mate, I did not enjoy this band.

But I do still love the fuck out of this band.

Not so much all their music, but seriously, this song and the filmclip is flawless. I can't fault one thing about it.

Some of the best memories in my life, outside of those with my children, are what used to be regular trips up the coast to hang with my brothers. Hasn't happened as much lately since my youngest brother (who's home we used to hang at) moved in with a woman. But we always had these wicked playlists of the bands we grew up with from RAGE back in the day. All timeless classics, one and all. Anyway, this song was on one of the mixes and for some reason the video came up and we put it on and it was a frenzy. Cannot honestly remember laughing so hard, authentically and joyously as we viewed this. Haha, magnificent times.

But yes, I genuinely dig the song, cheese and all, and after that weekend I found and listened to all their albums (three, I think?). Sadly, they were all pretty crap - but jeez I love this song, lol.

My cousin, who was/is into all the music we love, was a fan of these guys, needless to say, he copped a lot of shit from myself and our circle of friends at the time.

EUROGLIDERS - Heaven.

I'll post some iconic Aussie tracks here alongside the more well known International artists.

You can't get more iconic than this one down here when it comes to 80's music.

Here's 3 Killer tracks from Kim Wilde.

Huge memories for me associated with all 3.

She was as hot as fuck back in the day.

Dare I say... Stunning.

Another two by Kim, " Cambodia" and " You Keep Me Hangin' On"

What about your number one band Bros " When I Will Be Famous "

"Jessie's Girl" was Rick's massive hit, but I always preferred this track from a compilation album I had called "1982 out of the blue".

Ok, I admit I do have some of his albums. Even went to some of his shows

2 killer tracks from Irene Cara that absolutely epitomise the 80's.

Both from soundtracks.

On a sad note, I just found out that she passed away November 25, 2022.

Just over a month ago.

I haven't heard anything in the media. It's a shame, her death deserved more recognition.

R.I.P.

Like Irene, there has a small coverage of one of Pointer Sisters passed away.

Even biggest no coverage was Dan McCafferty of Nazareth passing, McCafferty was one of Jimmy Barnes' biggest influence.

I saw several news stories regarding the death of one of the Pointer sisters, but nothing about Irene.

BTW, "The Pointer Sisters" will feature in this thread at some stage I'm sure.

Speaking of which.

This isn't one of their more well known tracks, but it's another one I had on a compilation that is a favourite of mine.

Again, pure 80's.

2 killer 80's tracks that have 2 things in common.

Firstly, there's the "Genesis" connection and then there's also the fact that I have no idea what either song is about.

For the record, "Silent Running" is definitely my favourite of the two.

I remember it was the theme track to the 80's T.V. show "Werewolf".
