Was just listening to some Dio earlier today and had a discussion at work about the best songs Dio sang. So I got to thinking. (Which does hurt for me to do! (Plus I have nothing better to do tonight)) What is your favorite Dio album.

Now I did leave out the live and greatest hits. Partly because of space.

My favorite is Last In Line. Even though Sacred Heart was my first album by Dio I always thought Last in Line was just a great album with great songs! Plus Vivian Cambell could play guitar when he was with Dio!

Ronnie James DIO is probably in my top 5 ALL-TIME artists.....From Elf to Rainbow to Sabbath to DIO....I've heard 'em all....

That being said, I like 'Dream Evil' as a whole....my favorite DIO track is 'Last in Line'.....favorite OVERALL RJD song is 'Stargazer'.....nothing beats this song, IMHO.

Everything after Dream Evil sucks, IMHO....a couple of songs off Magica, and most of MotM is good.....

anyway, I voted for DREAM EVIL.....

P.S. he also sings on "We're Stars', and on two songs off of Kerry Livgren's CDs.

I'm with you on everything after Dream Evil, however I think with Magica he started to get back on track and I like Magica alot.

I have everything that I can think of Ronnie has done with the exception of a copy of Hear n Aid. One day I'll find that CD. But he is also in my top 5 and one of the few people I haven't seen that I would like to see.

2 RJD songs on this CD:  Mask of the Great Deceiver, and Live for the King

I do have that CD. The song just didn't click. I guess I was thinking of a album title. Scared me there. Thought I was going go shopping tonight. :D

It was a toss up between Holy Diver and Last In Line but I chose Holy Diver by a hair. Dream Evil is also a great album with Sacred Heart just behind that. Killing the Dragon is easily my favorite of anything he has released since '90.

Amusing story I was told about DIO by Vivian Campbell.

If you have got a copy of DIO first live video, where they a playing Donnington.

And you can't hear Viv's guitar on first song, reason why you cant hear it because it not plugged in.

Dream Evil for me too... with HOLY DIVER in at second and KILLING THE DRAGON in third place... Ronnnie hasn't really made a bad album IMHO except for ANGRY MACHINES (yuk)

    • I'm sure you remember as I do the "Black and White Minstrel Show". These days it's incredible to think that this was considered wholesome family viewing at the time.  There's absolutely no way something like this would fly today.
