Surprised not more comments on this?

See Andrew has given it a glowing first impression over at Melrock.

Really looking forward to this album due 2 Nov.

Here is Andrew's summation - sounds great!

1. Wide Awake - A bombastic hard rocker with layers and layers of music and vocals.

2. Our Ship's Sinking - Rick's best rock anthem ever? Massive wall of sound, massive chorus and sing-along harmonies and a riff and chorus to absolutely die for. Words cannot explain how much I love this track.

3. I Hate Myself - A typical post-80s RS single a la What's Veronica's Secret, Will I and Itsalwayssomething. 100% instantly catchy and another song with a simple verse moving to a huge chorus and layers of sound to get through.

4. You & Me - Extremely catchy lush, multi-layered modern rock ballad with a raw and haunting verse vocal moving to a falsetto chorus vocal.

5. Gabriel - Harks right back to Rick's 70s influences including the Beatles, featuring a largely acoustic base, but an uptempo chorus. A total hit single.

6. A Sign of Life - Almost a sequel to Time Stands Still from VIO, but heavier, faster and an even bigger pop anthem chorus that is as instant as it is complex.

7. My Last Heartbeat - Super complex heavy modern rock intro and verse which is swept away for an ultra-commercial multi-layered anthemic chorus before turning modern again.

8. Joshua - Fast moving feel good pop/rocker with a sentimental heart. Typical Rick chorus/bridge/anthem chorus formula. A joyous track!

9. Love Screws Me Up - A modernized and rocked up version of the Karma offcut that was included in the SDAA Limited Edition (in demo form). Fits into the album perfectly and is another uptempo sing-along anthem.

10. I Found You - A really interesting track - dark, modern, moody and intense. Not quite a ballad, but mid-tempo and features another multi-layered chorus and a feel good outcome, despite some heavy lyrical content.

11. Depravity - Another really interesting track - very modern and quite heavy, yet mid-tempo only. Super intense, but catchy chorus makes it even better.

Yeah RS can do no wrong in my book! The only thing that cheeses me off a bit is the propsed multiple versions with different bonus tracks....is anyone really going to buy every different version to get all the songs? Seriously??? If I was bothered about hearing them all I'd probably download the missing ones when they appear on some torrent site...just encourages piracy in my book (just next to the RS can do no wrong section...it's a really good book!)

Yeah, I heard this song last night and absolutely loved it... then went to try and pre-order this somewhere. No hope at all. This is one expensive disc. And the thing that made me want to end lives is that you can't even buy the CD from his official site? Seriously?

HAHA! HA! Like a Shannon Noll CD, or the last Kid Courageous CD? I still own neither because that last Kid Courageous CD is about $60 as a Jap import and one pays stupid prices for Shannon Noll unless you get lucky in some 2nd hand bin here. Syndicate too... still don't own that CD. Amazingly, Aussie CDs are probably the most expensive CDs for Aussies to actually buy. :( What a shit world...

arr the 09/10 release is US thats why its on import and f expensive.

also released on 24/10 in Japan which might be what youre looking at?

The 02/11 release is in Europe through Frontiers - that will be £12 or maybe less.

I must admit that those first 4 samples on Melrock sound awesome! Think this is gonna be a must for me come Nov. Lets hope the Frontiers price is 'reasonable'. ie not £20!

I totally agree! Those samples sound killer. I wasn't big on Venus In Overdrive from a few years ago but this one seems to up the ante quite a bit. As for the price, NEH has it listed for 15.99$, that is about £10. Shouldn't this release actually make it to local music stores....in other words Wal-Mart or Best Buy.

Andrew just gave this one 100%. Not that I would give any release 100%, but damn it's hard to argue with him when you hear the samples...and that's just the samples. Could be the best release of the year...never thought I'd say that from a Rick Springfield release. From what I hear their are no fillers and just melodic pop/rock bliss.

I'll be making a quick trip over the border to pick this one up on Tuesday.

Easily one of the very best releases of 2012. I've never been a huge fan of Rick, always liked him, but this one really kicks my ass. Sentational!

Here is my track by track ratings:

1) Wide Awake - An intense opener with a relentless pace. I can't believe this guy is older than my own father. - 9/10

2) Our Ship's Sinking - This one blows me away, awesome on every level, a perfect melodic rock track. - 10/10

3) I Hate Myself - An amazing anthem, Jesse's Girl for 2012, this one should be a huge hit. 9.5/10

4) You & Me - The pace slows down a bit, but the quality doesn't, a great ballad - 9/10

5) Gabriel - A mid-tempo track that is simply stunning. Rick's vocal work as with the previous track is flawless - 9.5/10

6) A Sign Of Life - A great modern rocker with another great chorus. Reminds of the Gin Blossoms - 9/10

7) My Last Heartbeat - Reminds me of a Stone Temple Pilot track, not that it's bad. The chorus is again excellent. - 8/10

8) Joshua - A poppy, uptempo fun track that reminds me classic Rick. - 9/10

9) Love Screws Me Up - A quirky track that reminds me of John Cougar Mellencamp. Still cool. - 8/10

10) I Found You - Dark, moody and modern. Good but not spectacular. - 7/10

11) Depravity - More modern rock with a solid melodic chorus...I still hear more STP...Odd! - 8/10

12) One Way Street - This closer really makes up for the slight dip in the last few tracks, an amazing track! - 9.5/10

Overall: 88/100

Not a fan of him but I heard a good album.

'Our Ship's Sinking' is such a flawless track, a 10/10 from me too, 'You and Me' also a 9/10, but 'I Hate Myself' is a bit patchy and I probably gave it a 7/10. 'Love Screws Me Up' and 'I Found You' also a bit weak, probably a 7 or 7.5, and 'Depravity' is a disaster, a 6/10 or maybe lower. Other great tracks are 'Wide Awake' (8/10), Gabriel (8.5/10), and Joshua (8.5/10), the rest are pretty fine too, maybe 8/10

There are other version of this album I guess, mine has 4 more bonuses, but sadly only 'Let Me In' that I think are great, and the other three are quite weak. So all in all, my bet is between 75% and 80% on this one

I Found You is great! Love the lyrics in there.

Depravity is also a real grower........I didnt like it at first, but now I cant stop repeating those letters in my head! If that is good or bad Im not sure..........??

'Our Ships Sinkin' is definitely the gem tho and I would agree a 10/10 song.

    • Really like that, hope there's a new album in the works
    • Don't believe they fell out , he just joined The Sweet I think and with their blessing? Think doing it on Diamonds would have sufficed...end that chapter of the band and onto the next.
    • but then again I didn't really have high hopes on it...hopes yes...but not high if I'm honest.
    • Video for 'Change The World'.
    • Be interested to hear this...after all of this time.
    • New album 'Another World' out June 21. Press release: Atlantic was the brainchild of guitarist and songwriter Simon Harrison. Following a successful ghost-writing career and his bands Stranger and Wisht, Simon wanted to make an album in his favoured AOR/Melodic Rock genre. Heavily influenced by bands like Whitesnake, Journey, Bad English, FM and Dare he set about writing the songs that became the first album entitled ‘Power’. Atlantic was never supposed to be a long term band and following its worldwide release Simon moved on to other writing, recording, production and mix projects. In the late nineties Simon met Mark Grimmett. He recorded several songs with Mark over the following few years and they decided at some point they would make a record together. Fast forward to 2021 Mark was talking to Simon about writing and recording a new album. Originally entitled the MGB Band, work started in the fall of 2021 … By early 2022 they had written a number of songs and they both felt they would best suit a new album under the Atlantic banner. Several members of Grim Reaper were recruited to give the Album an edge, whilst retaining the essential melodic rock/Aor feel that is Atlantic. Mark Pullin, Julian D.Hill and Ian Nash were duly recruited into the band along with keyboardist Gareth David Noon from Serpentine .. The lineup was to change later in the project with Simon and Tim Bristow taking over the keyboard role and the addition of Nick Burr and Andy Margrett on lead guitar. Work continued over the next year and finally the production was completed in late 2023. Mark Pullin stepped up to mix the album after some unforeseen issues at Simon’s studio and it was completed in March 2024. Escape Music had re released the original Power album and were absolutely the first choice to work with on the new album. Their new album “Another World” will be released exclusively by Escape Music, exciting times. The band is: Simon Harrison – Guitars, Bass & Keyboards Mark Grimmett – Lead Vocals Mark Pullin – Drums, Backing Vocals Nick Burr – Lead Guitar Julian D.Hill – Bass Tim Bristow – Keyboards Gareth David Noon – Additional Keyboards / Andy Margrett – Additional Lead Guitar / Mark Pullin – Additional Lead Guitar All songs written by Simon Jewell-Harrison & Mark Grimmett Except * Co-Written by Tim Bristow. • Not a fan of Staind, but this song popped up in my YouTube feed and the lyrics just hit me right in the heart this morning.    Beautiful ballad in my opinion…
    • It's ok but at the same time not doing much for me.  To me this sounds like this could've been a modern Bon Jovi song.  If you're basically making music that sounds like Bon Jovi, why not just go back to Bon Jovi lol. As it is, Richie's solo stuff has never really grabbed me and don't see myself returning to this. Do plan to check out the Bon Jovi documentary on Hulu this weekend though
