Damned Nation

Who else misses these guys? 'Grand design' and 'Road of desire' are such fantastic albums.

The debut was okay (love 'Back (someday)') and the last album was disappointing (even though 'Still alive' is great). But how freakin' good were they on those two middle discs???!!!

I've all but given up trying to give clowns awesome recommendations, but I may as well say I actually think you'd like these guys. I'll put it this way. They are 14,000,000 times superior to The Darkness and then double it before triple-ing it, and anyone who's heard both bands would agree. That I am 100% positive of. :)

I notice both you gents said 'are' instead of 'were'. I'll look it up at some time, but are they still together? It would be great if their original singer returned (sorry Mr Alfonzetti, but you finally seem to have lost your touch) and got back to how good they were.

At the time I bought Road of desire and Grand design, two great album, with a touch of whitesnake.

The old singer sounded like a mix of Coverdale and Sting! I really love his voice.

When the singer was changed they decided to go in a heavier direction.

I read the rewiews of "Sign of madness" and I decided that It was no more my cup of tea.

Is it a decent album? :stan:

I know Alfonzetti is good replace , Il oved Jagged edge.

Sign of Madness is my fave from them because of the direction of the music and the singer. But I believe you are more melodic music lover so you may not like this release.

I haven't heard their first release but I love the other 3......'Sign of Madness' is heavier than the other 2 but well worth hearing .......... anyone think the first release is worth tracking down?

Love love love this band!

I remember seeing them live. I went down the front thinking there is no way that guitarist can play that fast live! Guess what? He bloody did. That young guitarist was shit hot just like on the albums! I can honestly say, he was one of the best guitarist I've seen live ever!!

I only have the first three but I understand the drummer and guitarist are now in a covers band! Such a waste!

'Caught in your love light' and 'Stone Cold Woman' are my two favs!

For those asking about whether or not they should track down the debut or 'Signs of madness', my advice would be:

'Just what the doctor ordered' (1994) ; I honestly wouldn't bother with this one. Very bluesy, standard and average hard rock. Really not much worthwhile on this disc aside from the stand-alone gem, 'Back (Someday)' which in itself is only good because of a great chorus. Yeah, I'd avoid this disc.

'Sign of madness' (2004); I gave this review on the main site back in 2005 - As a huge Damned Nation fan, blown away by the last couple of CDs, I was a little disappointed here to hear them abandon the more melodic tracks. But a band of this quality I would not give up on and I've played it a lot since I bought it and have decided it's excellent. Very heavy, and a very good sound. 'Still alive' is just a stunning track and 'Sign of mdness', 'Facing the enemy', 'Slave' and basically all are great. Too much of the same subject matter, but a great melodic heavy rock CD.

I still stand by that. A disappointing album, yes, but in no way is it a bad disc. A very good disc, in fact. Heavy riffs all over the joint. A bit more down-tuned, but still quality. I think all 3 of their last discs are essential.

What he said. A good band, but not a great one. I don't love 'em, I don't hate 'em.
