  1. Really nice sound and the video portion looks to be done well on both tracks
  2. For me, it can be both, if a band has a singer with a distinctive voice it is major positive for them. Listeners are able to recognize the band/artist by simply hearing the vocals. If instead a band has a vocalist that sounds like other bands of the same genre it may result in fewer sales and over time they may get lost in the shuffle. However, one negative aspect is when a band loses that distinctive vocalist. Some bands have difficulty ever matching their prior success. For many fans, Styx without former vocalist Dennis Deyoung just isn't Styx. Some popular bands who lost their vocalist had far less success, even if the music was still good. There are exceptions of course, like AC/DC or more recently H.E.A.T., but for others like Journey, Quiet Riot, Motley Crue, and Skid Row I believe they lost fans due in part to the absence of the voice that had become synonymous with the band. For some people they became just another band. Even if success continued with the new singer, like Van Halen (w/ Hagar) or Black Sabbath (w/ Dio), it often split the fan-base.
  3. Lol, c'mon now, I am sure I'm not the only Styx fan here. Granted, they haven't done anything for years, with the last album of note for me being Edge of the Century in 1990, but during their prime they released several really good pomp rock albums.
  4. I liked the lead single Gone Gone Gone from Styx and I'm interested in hearing their new album
  5. I haven't gotten into their stuff since Swagger either. This new song isn't bad, just doesn't sound like GUN
  6. James sounds pretty good on the live videos of him singing the classic QR tunes but the mix on this first track sounds horrible.
  7. I was not familiar with this band at all. Good stuff, thanks for posting
  8. I really liked their album The Meaning of I. And while I thought their last album V wasn't as consistent, it still had some cool tracks. This song sounds pretty good, so I'll try to check out some of the other tunes from this new release
  9. Good tune, thanks for sharing the link
  10. Sounds ok, I like Alice Cooper, but I haven't been able to get into too many of the releases since The Last Temptation. Maybe some of the other tracks off this new one will grab my attention though
  11. Pretty good tune (minus the glitches from the upload itself). The band has been on a nice roll since Mark joined the band. Hopefully this new one is as strong as the last three albums.
  12. I like this track better than the first single, sounds promising
  13. I would recommend starting with the Murderdolls album Beyond the Valley of the Murderdolls and then probably Wednesday 13's Transylvania 90210: Songs of Death, Dying and the Dead. To me, the earlier stuff has more of a glam, punk sound but keeps the Alice Cooper influenced, horror lyrical themes. Kind of like the Misfits crossed with Too Fast for Love era Motley Crue.
  14. Very cool, thanks for sharing. All four songs are pretty good, but I like tracks 1 and 4 the best.
  15. I respect and appreciate everything Frontiers has done and continues to do for the melodic rock genre. Like others have said, most of the new releases I purchase are on that label. But, I get where you are coming from and feel the criticism has merit with regards to all the recent collaborative projects. Some of them were really enjoyable for me. But an equal number ended up being rather disappointing. I personally would rather buy a smaller label release of an up and coming act or a well done re-issue of a long lost gem then spend the same money on one of the unnecessary or overhyped collaboration projects. And over time I'm sure that is what will dictate how long these projects continue. Forums like this help get the word out about the releases, from any label, that sound rushed or are lacking in quality. If the bad releases outweigh the good for a long enough period of time then the sales will drop and we'll start to see fewer of them.
  16. Some nice tunes amongst the ones you posted. Kind of reminiscent of an '80's alternative band. It isn't something I'd purchase on cd for myself, but I could see throwing it in the mix while streaming music, when I'm in the mood for something different
  17. Unfortunately the sample tracks from these guys didn't do much for me
  18. Valid point, it helped approaching it like that, similar to the new Warrant. I listened again and did like them a bit more, especially This is the Life. Not great by any means, but decent. The promotional write ups claiming it is similar to vintage '80's Great White does the band a disservice by further setting up an expectation about how it will sound.
  19. Good point, he did some of his best work with Mustaine and Ellefson, especially on Rust In Peace and Countdown
  20. Nice, I'm looking forward to hearing some new material from these guys as well
  21. I have Dragon's Kiss, Music For Speeding and Loudspeaker from Marty, but lost interest in his stuff starting with Future Addict. This lead track for the upcoming album sounds cool though
