  1. All covers of that song are great because it's a great tune. But yeah, I love that one too. Does anyone still acknowledge the fact that the band Saliva still exist? They released another average album last year, but for me, the best song on the album was this pretty great Michael Jackson cover; That is a pretty cool cover by Saliva!
  2. I've had a listen to their 'Outside Looking In' album. It's got a real 'feel good' factor to it - the kind of album I'd have playing in my car stereo or at a BBQ. Nice vocals and a pretty consistent sound throughout - which is good and bad for me. Good if I'm in a 'give me a heavy dose of melodic rock' mood, bad if I'm in a general music mood as I'd want to break it up a bit with different styles as they can start to sound all the same to me after a while. The only one from that album that I didn't think worked was You'll never know. I was loving the acoustic intro but it felt a bit too abrupt when it switched into the rock part. Pretty impressed though over all and will add it to my medleys I think Really liked Geoff's Icehouse recommendations too
  3. Ah, Mental as Anything, Live it Up that's a great 80s pop classic for me, one of those that takes me right back to my teens when I hear it. I think it really captured the era. Men at Work were pretty big in the UK with Down Under but were a one hit wonder band for me. I might check out some of their other stuff too. I always was (& still am to some extent) a lazy listener and unless I REALLY loved a track by a band, or heard a 2nd one by them that I liked I never took it further and listened out for other songs by them. Maybe that's one of the big plusses of the internet and Spotify - it makes it so much easier to 'try before you buy' & extend your listening
  4. Thanks, checking samples... Cheers mrbandwidth. You will let me know your opinion (good or bad) won't you?
  5. For anyone who's interested - plus for a bit of blatant self promotion as I really would love honest feedback on what people think - German internet radio station Rock Chicks Radio is going to play songs from RAW SILK's The Borders of Light on their Easy Monday show tomorrow night 24th April (8pm-10pm German time) as an Album of the Week feature. They'll be playing music by these bands + others during the show too: Wild Rose, Cacumen (Bonfire), 10 Rogue, Wolfpakk, Yasmin Hofer (aka Yasi), Mystic Prophecy, SOULHUNTER Website = http://rockchicks-radio.de There are soundbites from all the tracks at www.Rawsilk-official.com too in case anyone is just dying to check it out and doesn't happen to speak German or have time/inclination to sit through a full show. I figured here might be okay to post about it seeing as the thread was on topic
  6. Can't say i'm very familiar with much of "The Stone Roses" work.I just checked out the original, but neither that or this "Merrymouth" version is really my cup of tea i'm afraid. Ah, but are you a tea drinker?Yeah, what kind of tea?I am a tea drinker actually. Not that i have a cup of tea very often, but if given the choice between tea or coffee i'd go with tea everytime. Never been a coffee drinker at all, which i'm glad of when i see the amount of money the guys i work with spend on it. I don't know what it's like in the UK and Canada, but down here the price and pretentiousness of coffee has gotten a bit out of hand. All of a sudden somebody who works at a coffe shop is called a "Barista" and god help you if you offer somebody instant coffee. I have friends who have spent thousands on fancy cafe style coffee machines who are horrified when they visit and i pull out the old "Nescafe Blend 43". Now that's a man's coffee. Ah there's plenty of coffee pretentiousness here too for sure! What kind of tea Karpetface? Well not the dodgy kind I mostly drink black teas, of which primarily Typhoo. I'm also one of those pretentious coffee drinkers you two are talking about. There are lots of gorgeous (+ pretentious) independent coffee houses springing up by me, including some that offer Barista training. I love sitting in them, reminds me of Vienna. I stick to tea though - good old Twinings "Springing up" is a good way to put it. That's definitely the case over here, too. I think people are getting tired of Starbucks and Tim Horton's (it's a Canadian thing) and want a richer coffee experience. By the way, this reminds me of Vienna: https://youtu.be/wkeuV_igRBQ He's got a cool vibe going on. Plus that's another for the different songs with same title thread cos Ultravox did one called Vienna too
  7. But good questions about what? (Does that count as a good question in itself?) Bronski Beat - Why? Jackson Five - Can you Feel It? System of a Down - War? The Waterboys - Be my enemy? Tina Turner - What's love got to do with it? Howard Jones - What is love anyway?
  8. Ah man, you like to pose ones that get the brain cells working! Bob Dylan - The Hurricane is one that came immediately to mind and the one that goes 'Whoooh ohhhh Nelson Mandela' (don't know who sang it) George Michael - Jesus to a child

  12. So would you recommend this store as an outlet for submitting cds to for him to sell?
  13. Yippee, will try that. It doesn't seem to give me the option when I'm doing it on the Ipad but does it automatically when I do it on my PC,
  14. I'd never come across the Naughty Naughty song before. Makes me think of that Chuck Berry hit 'wouldn't you like to play with my ding a ling'
  15. Wow, now that was a cover definitely worth doing! Do you like this cover of Stone Roses' 'I am the Resurrection' by Merrymouth?
  16. Great video, really fun to watch. Loved St Elmo's Fire but hadn't realised it was sung by a brit. He had a great voice, shame his other material was naff. This video by the same guy but doing Dead or Alive 'You spin me round' is great too https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VnPakMhITSA
  17. Lovely vocals. Here's what's a playing for me today, Johnny Cash singing Nine inch Nails' "Hurt"
  18. Wahay, thanks Cure, will check them all out for sure. Awww, but they are (as you said) just straight covers really - same song but with a different singer. Waaaaahhhhh I wanted to hear a radically different version. Wonder whether it's protected and non-one's been given the permission to dramatically alter it?
  19. Wahay, thanks Cure, will check them all out for sure.
  20. That's because you didn't see the band with Steve Perry. Aha! That may very well be the reason
  21. Eric Martensson throws in an awful lot of "Ow!"s in Eclipse tunes. Guess i'd better avoid them then
  22. Now I didn't get any hint of ABBA when I listened to it but I wouldn't mind if I did cos I love 'The Winner Takes it All'. That sing cries out for an AOR cover version (which prob exists already somewhere if I take the trouble to look, but I'm a lazy sod)
