  1. Debut album was great, and the next few that followed weren't too bad...I lost interest after "the robe" studio wise, although there are still some good songs like the title track of "spellbound" & "barricade" from Babylon but not enough for me I'll have a few more listens to the one I've just got, then try some of their others and see if I can make sense of their progression in style. Was surprised to see they'd done so many albums TBH. From what i read they've remained true to their original sound but possibly that's not always a good idea. Surely, unless you are a genius, you'd begin to run out of inspiration and lose the freshness of sound Gary Hughes is a genius. The fact that they remain true to their original style is what i love about them. It's funny that bands get criticized for staying true to their style and also criticized for changing their original style. Sometimes they can't win. Give them a good go Silverkin. I think you'll love them....and take any negative comments about any band with a grain of salt. Lettard is right, their earlier albums are definitely their best. Checkout "The Name of The Rose" and "The Robe". Also Gary Hughes's solo efforts, "Legends" and "The Once and Future King" I+II. Haha, thanks Darkstone. I wasn't meaning it as criticism re staying true to style, it was more trying to understand why some bands might lose their shine if they do release a lot of albums. I think they can risk sounding too similar or losing their originality as they begin to run out of ideas. You're right though, sometimes whatever a band does they can't win! Then again, that's what keeps life interesting-everyone's varied opinions and tastes. And at least they're attracting comment - it'd be MUCH worse if they were completely ignored But as for Ten, I can't comment yet as my knowledge of them is severely limited. I was asking myself earlier whether my tastes are prone to be influenced too much by others' opinions or not.....I think I sense a new thread topic looming

  3. Awww i've just bought their 1st album (on the strength of The Loneliest Place in the World) & am loving it on 1st listening so was quite excited when I spotted this thread.
  4. Was listening to Ten's first album (yaaay it arrived yesterday). Am loving it but one of the tracks reminded me of an old favourite: Heart How do I get you alone? so looked up that to listen to and hit on the cover by Alyssa Reid retitled Alone Again. I think it's a pretty cool reworking of the song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hm80lzYnoKI
  5. Europe no longer has anything to do with AOR Honestly? Gosh. TBH I've never followed them, I just remember them from their 80s heydey. Now I'm gonna have to check them out and see if I liked what they've morphed into ...but now you're confusing me. I thought I'd got all this AOR stuff clear in my head. They still sound AOR to me or would you say they are more metal now?I'd better not start another 'what is AOR?' discussion else I'll get banned What????Listen to their last album. That is NOT aor in any way shape or form. Awww i'm never gonna get it! It was their last album i listened to (or at least a couple of tracks from it cos it wasn't really my thing)) Their last album was more classic rock with a bit of grunge thrown in You seem to be struggling there. I think the word you're looking for is shit. They are just plain and simply, shit. There is no remnant of what made people love them in the mid to late 80's and early 90's. Nothing. It's just... shit. Oooh, tell it like it is Geoff!!
  6. Mine too. Wonder if my tastes or recognition of good (+bad) music will ever reach the level where I know immediately what works for me

  8. I'm with you and Geoff on that! The screen is usually minimised when I'm really wanting to listen to music (if it's online) so I don't see the videos. I usually only seek out videos if I want to see what the band look like

  11. Wow! This really is an AOR year!!!
  12. Just curious, do (m)any of you look over your lists again at the end of each year and find your %age ratings have radically altered or do you know your personal tastes well enough to get them bang on right from the start?
  13. Did it move you to tears? No, but that's not the point of this threa- oh, I see. Move along, then.
  14. Did it move you to tears? Here's another country tune for y'all that I can't believe anyone could dislike. There's so much room in it for adding and changing up the harmonies as you sing along https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2s9dpKvI50
  15. Have heard 'Heart of War' by them which I really liked. I love songs with a bit of that 'sewage?' vocals in them, works really well when done right. Had a listen to 'Right Here and Now' today which I liked too You might like Nostalgia for a Belief (Chastity of Silence/Shakespeare's Violence/Between the Lines) if you like Message from Sylvia. I'm pretty sure they're on youtube
  16. Awww, that's a good one. Was bugging me because the riff (or is it a 'lick'?? or a hook?) between 1secs and 26 secs reminded me of a song I loved but I couldn't remember which it was. Finally worked it out, Keane 'Everybody's Changing'
  17. Which proves that a good video can totally ''make'' a song, or at least get people to buy the music even if it isn't good hahahaha Yaaay, you're right!!
  18. Bob Dylan Dirge https://vimeo.com/39994730 Not gonna comment on the dance video that was put to it!!
  19. Are all of their videos good then? Or are there any particularly standout ones? I only know the older ones, from the debut album. People were crazy about them and the album and singles sold well because of the new concept of a virtual cartoon band. I recently listened to those songs again and it's for the most part style over substance as the songs haven't aged very well. The videos I remember are ''Clint Eastwood'', ''19-2000'' and ''Rock The House'' ....but does any of their old stuff even get played anymore? I sure don't think it will in my house having just given Clint Eastwood and Rock the House a quick listen. Pretty sure even multiple listens wouldn't convert me to liking them. Can see the appeal of the videos though
