  3. I recently discovered Timothy J's COAR show in the US (stands for Creative Original Artists Rock ) which I'm loving - he supports unsigned and emerging talent and is so fun to listen to. His blog is pretty entertaining reading too (http://coarradio.com/home.html) Then there's Rock Chicks Radio which airs from Germany and has a really great mix of bands (http://rockchicks-radio.de) with the Easy Monday show playing a lot of new bands and established ones. Rock Melodic Radio from Greece is the other one I've found that I listen to regularly http://rockmelodic-radio.com but does anyone have any others that they could recommend when I'm wanting a fix of either unsigned/unknown bands or established ones to widen my knowledge of AOR and heavy rock?

  5. You're right I know - and I guess the thread is asking for what makes a song perfect 'for you' which is so individual and personal. (I'm finding it really great for adding new songs to my playlist though). Hmmm, back to the drawing board. I thought I'd found one that was perfect for me earlier : Is long, but doesn't feel long Switches between emotions seamlessly Keeps my interest throughout no matter how often I listen to it Sounds as fresh today as the 1st time I heard it Loved it on 1st listening and still love it Can sing my heart out to it I notice something new or a new harmony for it each time I listen It even has Geoff's kittens included in it towards the end (or at least the guitars sound like kittens mioawwing) The instruments/vocals etc all fit it perfectly The lyrics are great and then, when I listened today deliberately to see if I could find a fault with it I heard some really annoying 'la la la' vocals on it which I'll probably hear every time I listen to it now DAMMITTT! It's Elton John's Funeral for a friend/Love lies bleeding
  6. I doubt you'll get any where EVERYONE agrees.................there's always one awkward bugger (usually me) I guess that's true... but I do like to live in hope Maybe I could set specific criteria and to make things simple I get to be ref and make the final decisions (cue evil laugh) Does anyone hate kittens, life, happiness, everything good in life and ultimately this song; If they do, please exit the forum immediately. Dan said so. OOOhhhh that is one that's great to sing along to at the top of your voice. Perfect!

  8. You do realise that at some point I'm gonna sooooo want to go through all these and see if we can get any that have 100% consensus/agreement?
  9. The talk of 80s pop stuff and Through the Barricades got me listening to Simple Minds The Belfast Child and The Alarm New South Wales another 2 protest songs of the time and The Alarm New South Wales
  10. This song reminded me of the band Then Jericho for some reason
  11. None have come to mind except for examples from classical composers who used to do it regularly, but I think it's a great idea as long as the 2nd time round it has improved on the 1st one - maybe based on feedback from fans (although would that be classed as remastering?) I do love it when bands put bonus tracks on their albums with acoustic versions or remixes. On a similar theme but slightly off topic, I got seriously hacked off with Faith Hill when I accidentally bought her album named Bed of Roses when I was actually wanting the album with her hit 'Take me as I am' where the chorus is singing about a bed of roses. That was a sneaky marketing web that I got caught in.
  12. I was going to work through chronologically but it's proving tough for me as I don't tend to listen to similar styles in one sitting let alone the same artists (my iPod skips merrily between tracks of classical, big band, folk, country, rock etc etc). Think I'll switch to the %age order Geoff and Darkstone have put above and one album from each every other day.
  13. Cheers Geoff. I'll tell him your comment re the debut album - I know he really appreciates that people still listen and love that one too. The new album is getting some pretty high reviews which is great but I do love to hear the negatives too - it all potentially helps for when/if he decides to work on another album
  14. Parker with Jason Statham and Jennifer Lopez cos it was one of the 1st films that showed up in the list as included in Amazon Prime. Don't think it's one you're meant to take too seriously, a bit graphic in parts (for my standards anyway) but overall, perfect for a lazy evening if you fancy an action movie
  15. That's a new one to me. Can't beat 'I want to know what love is' though
  16. Is this the original, from 1983? I also thought it was a Heart song too, for a very long time. Ooh, that has more depth of feeling to the performance. (Told you I was lazy; I really should have checked who originally wrote it) I like this version, but I think I still favour Heart. It's a great song, either way, though. Absolutely!! and yaaaayy I've just solved something that has been bugging me for the last few days... just as with this song, the original feels more 'authentic' to me emotionally but I actually prefer listening to Heart's version, that's what it is with Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven. Awesome, A.W.E.S.O.M.E song but I'm ashamed to admit I prefer listening to Far Corporation's version as it has more 'punch' to it
  17. Lots of songs were covered to great effect in Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge movie including Your Song - Elton John Roxanne - Police
  18. Working my way through the back catalogue of Ten. It's gonna take me a while!!!
  19. Thanks for taking the time Geoff! I love and am fascinated by how varied each individual's opinions and tastes in music are and yet then you sometimes find pieces that almost everyone agrees on (though I don't think we've found any perfect songs that everyone on this site agrees are 10/10 yet). Like the other thread where Sound of Silence was being seriously dissed ; now for me that is one of those songs that I love as it taught me how to sing harmonies (along with the Everly Brothers' hits). Re The Borders of Light, to me, the slower tempo thing could be a metaphor for the fact that we’re slowing down as we get older and the release of this album - being so long after the 1st one - is like representing the next major stage of the road through life...?... but I’m not sure that’s what Kostas was aiming for so - as that’s potentially straying into 'concept album' territory which is beyond me and not really my thing (I’m more of a ‘do I like it musically or not’ kind of gal) maybe I shouldn't explore that route too closely. I do know there was discussion as to whether to release as Raw Silk or not but he definitely saw this 2nd album as a continuation or natural progression of Silk Under the Skin which is, I think, what decided him in the end. Thanks for listening to it and commenting though. Probably one of the main 'goals' of a musician is to get his/her creation heard and they'd have to be a bit to believe that everyone is gonna like it...... oh, I've just shown Kostas what I was writing + he says : "I consciously wanted to move away from the upbeat feeling of the 1st album and create something heavier which is why it is also slower in tempo." He was also telling me the stories of when Silk Under the Skin (+ First Attack by Spitfire) were 1st released and the negative comments and reviews they got at the time. I wasn't there for any of that period

  21. hahahaha. We should create a song and each member contribute a verse/line or chorus now that Geoff and Glen have started us off.....guess it'd be a poem though rather than a song unless someone writes the score too and posts it
  22. Yeah, "That was yesterday" for sure. But definitely not 'Cold as ice.' 'Say you will' is a choice cut, though. They lose points for me because the rhymes are too predictable. Good songs though
