  1. I'm on the verge of tears every time I listen to this. It's simply one of the best songs every recorded. Its weird but to me that isnt quite AOR....its melodic rock. Whereas this is AOR -https://youtu.be/6K6oXtfjP0I I think debut is AOR, mood Swings is melodic (hard in places) rock Woooh, now that's what I call a Hair band!! Reminded me of Bryan Adams 'Run to you' which takes me right back to my youth whenever I hear it
  2. Oh cheers gener8tr, that's awesome. Will check them all out. It's weird they didn't make a bigger impression on me live. I remember going to the concert in Birmingham and that I left with a really good feel about the music but hadn't remembered that it was them playing
  3. I know it's Country rather than rock but Rascal Flatts' What Hurts the Most is a song I love, and towards the end the singer does this really annoying and pointless 'Woooh!'. It annoyed me the 1st time I noticed it but now whenever I hear the song I can sense that 'woooh' lurking and it ruins the whole song for me
  4. Oh I'm so gonna buy that album! What an awesome song. Showing my ignorance I know as Journey are such a massive AOR band who my partner just said we've actually been to see live but still they are new to me New? Just buy Escape....the pinnacle of AOR. Oohh, is that better than Frontiers?
  5. Oh I'm so gonna buy that album! What an awesome song. Showing my ignorance I know as Journey are such a massive AOR band who my partner just said we've actually been to see live but still they are new to me
  6. Oh, now that made me laugh! (Makes me want to go and listen to them now though)
  7. Sure got a nice country rock feel to that one Wow. Great tune. Who is this guy? Not sure, Ponen posted it first and I thought i'd have a listen. Was looking at your thread earlier re your CD collection. Have you added much to it since your last posting? Pretty eclectic mix! (and unfortunately I hadn't heard of many of them ) My song of the day is Protopsalti's cover of How You Remind Me
  8. Ah, I couldn't get your link to work on that one. My husband played drums on the video for this Greek cover version by Protopsalti of How You Remind Me. That was an interesting experience seeing how some videos are recorded. We were there all day and I lost count of the number of times the song was played through while everyone played along. Must be a good version though as I didn't get tired of hearing it Actually I might share it to the good 'cover songs' thread too :-)
  9. Have you done one? Or do you avoid Spotify? I have come across a couple of compilations that people have contributed on there (Rock, Metal and Country ones) which are great for discovering quality bands I'd never heard of before. The downside of course is that there are so many of them I couldn't afford to actually be buying all their albums and as Spotify actually pays them so little then I'm not sure I'm helping them much financially. Then again, it's possible that if they're signed to a label they still wouldn't earn much even if I bought the album/track that I liked
  10. Sure got a nice country rock feel to that one
  11. The Puma Man from the MST3K series is unmissable "The Pooma man, he flies like a moron"
  12. So do you think it will/is happening? I can't see why not. Even the current fashion with the ripped jeans is a throwback to the 80s AOR scene to my mind
  13. Yep if we stick to one, I'd go with Album (Oriented Radio... or Rock...)
  14. Awww shame. I can imagine it'd be a bit of an organisational nightmare though so don't blame you.... and I know for sure i certainly would never be volunteering myself to do it!
  15. I go through phase, loved Alice Cooper Poison for ages, then went off it so had a long break but now I love it again. Am sure there are lots I've thought were amazing but then overlistening means I start finding the faults with them and then that's the only bit I 'hear' whenever I play it. Will try and remember which! Certainly if the lyrics are naff that can kill a song for me once I've learnt them
  16. I agree re record companies, they don't seem to back bands and make them household names in the same way any more but I wondered whether social media was helping change things? Personally I like niche markets and the internet has been super brilliant for that side of things as I can be pro active and seek out exactly what I'm looking for rather than being dictated to by the charts as I seemed to be in my younger days
  17. ' Why is it less logical? Forget Adult that is wrong. It is album orientated radio. 'Arena oriented rock', another A to add to the mix (and confusion). Ah, and the 'radio' v 'rock' bit too. I think I will just think of it as 'big' music from now on
  18. There's so many bands who advertise on here and then the discussion network going on makes for an awesome community feel and I was putting the 2 together in my head and thought, wouldn't it be super cool if there could be a Glastonbury or Download style Heavy Harmonies festival so members could potentially meet up sometimes too. Surely with all the talent signed up to this site there must be plenty of contacts with promoters and organisers etc around the world who would have the know how and connections to get it going in various countries but it would be under the Heavy Harmonies banner which would 'up' the spread of your site even more and maybe help with the running costs cos it should attract more doners and the bigger the site got, the more talent it would attract and it would be win win all round. I like to dream big ? A smaller dream would be to have a Heavy Harmonies stage at one of the big festivals rather than be responsible for the whole thing. ..and here's where someone points out that it already happens and I've been walking around with my eyes closed. Lol.
  19. There seem to be loads of quality new AOR bands emerging and groups coming out with new albums after a long break. I was wondering whether that has always been going on and I just wasn't aware of it cos I wasn't looking or is it that social media is helping mobilise the fans which is creating a real ground swell that's encouraging bands to create new high standard material? Alphamale had posted something re Junkyard's new album and I was checking out their earlier stuff online as had never heard of them. It was reading through the comments by listeners that got me wondering - they were all saying things like : "god dam I miss good rock." "Where did all the great music disappear to?" "DAMN......I miss the ''80s and real music." "You and everyone else. True rock!" etc And then someone said how record companies had turned their backs on good rock bands when grunge became the "new thing" so the rock artists had turned to recording their own material at home instead. The response to that was: "If maybe one day a new movement of good bands strikes there will be nothing in the way" I'm wondering if that's what we're seeing happen now and there's gonna be a new era of strong rock material hitting the mainstream again
  20. Hadn't heard of them before but just had a look at some of their old tracks. If the new album is as good should be pretty exciting. I love that you get the free download of the album included with the purchase of the CD (if it's available as a download), best of both worlds and presumably the artist gets a good cut of the profits?
  21. Ah that's a great classic! Loving all the other suggestions too - plenty of viewing coming up for me!!!
  22. North American drivers are very, very lazy. Most of our automobiles are automatics. It can become difficult to find manual transmissions. I prefer manual -- it's what I learned on -- but I couldn't find a single manual transmission on the car I wanted. Not sure driving an automatic is related to laziness. Fair enough if you wash your clothes by hand and do your dishes in the sink (both manual tasks) Technology improves so life becomes easier. Self driving cars will soon be referred to as 'automatic' and today's automatic cars will be seen as 'manual' because you used to need to hold the wheel and push pedals with your feet. Petrol consumption is my issue. But then in the States you dont need to worry about cost cos your petrol/ diesel costs next to nothing. Canada is stoopid expensive. So is Finland. UK too, but then everything is flipping expensive there
  23. It's great. Were you miming the singing for the video? You make it look effortless but I'm guessing drumming and singing at the same time would be a bit like trying to sing while doing a high impact exercise class! Here's a link to the latest Raw Silk release lyric vid to see what you think https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCii_h2j9e6FXxJoj3z2nH2w This one is by NFAB, different sound to Raw Silk but same composer, would be interested to hear your opinion on that And my favourite track from Silk Under the Skin
