Not a huge fan of the lead off single, but their last two releases have been nearly flawless. Can't wait to hear the rest of it.

Still think these guys are ridiculously over-rated, but I like the new song. Good stuff, and I'll be hoping for an album to finally live up to their hype.

Jeez the lead singer looks different these days...

With your undying love for Cauterize or Papa Roach, I'm shocked Shinedown isn't to your liking. They aren't the same, but all of the above are great melodic modern rock. The vocalist has to be one of the top 5 singers in modern rock. Despite not freakin' over the lead off single, I'm surely gonna get this one.

I've gone into it in great depth in many threads if you can find them, but the general gist of the whole thing is that yes, I love a lot of modern rock bands but to me these guys are very, very middle of the road and I think there are hundreds of better modern rock bands than them. Yes, they're okay, but it's kinda like those people who think Bon Jovi are the only good melodic rock band out there. There are hundreds of better bands than Shinedown, imo of course, yet people seem to think they're the beginning and end of the modern rock world.

I find myself not surprised we disagree but really? Middle of the road? They may be the best in the genre of this kind of music. Way better than the other two bands mentioned.

And that's the type of reply I'd expect from everyone who's only knowledge of modern rock is basically Shinedown and that's it. And that's what I mean by the Bon Jovi reply.

If you heard the amount of modern rock bands I like to enjoy, you'd realise pretty quick that Shinedown are nothing special at all. The fact that you guys are comparing them to Cauterize or Papa Roach pretty much says it all. That's not far off comparing Pantera to Pretty Boy Floyd in terms of how similar they are. Yeah, they're all rock bands but that's about the end of the similarities. ;)

I'd be interested to see a list of all the bands they are supposedly better than in "the genre of this kind of music."

Pantera to Pretty Boy Floyd compared with Papa Roach To Shinedown.

Jesus give me some credit! At least the latter two play the same genre and generally share the same fans, the other two are from two completely different spectrums of rock.

I'm sure on a music bill you'd have a better chance of Papa Roach touring with Shinedown, rather than Pantera touring with Pretty Boy Floyd.

You don't have to like Shinedown, I'm just surprised you don't.

The discussion always ends up here... I have never said I don't like Shinedown. I think they're a decent band. Just massively, massively over-rated on this site.

They're fine. I just don't get the complete adoration for a band that, as far as I can see, have done nothing to deserve such adoration. I think the thing that irritates me most is people who slag off modern rock in general, probably without hearing 95% of the bands they supposedly hate, yet they rant and rave about Shinedown... who are a solid band... but like I said, just mid-range, imo, of course.

I guess my thing is, if you're (not you specifically, Dave) going to call a band the best of a particular genre, at least be well versed in the other bands that are actually in said genre.

The lead single is pretty weak imo.

However their last 2 albums have been excellent imo and great examples of classic rock sounding music with a modern approach.

I think this is the reason the band doesnt well with Geoff cos they have that classic rock sound.

My point is this : to most people The Crow and the Butterfly would be a great ballad with an amazing vocal, but i bet Geoff hates it?

See if im right......

Horrible song. One of their worst. ;)

And not sure what you guys are hearing in this dude's voice either. It's okay... for a modern rock vocalist.

I know enough about modern rock to know most of it sucks, other than Shinedown. I never used the above compared bands. I actually think Papa Roach is fairly decent but as I mentioned before, I wouldn't piss on Cauterize if they were on fire along with many more modern bands.

And that's basically what I mean. I'd be interested to know how many good modern rock bands you've actually heard to make such a summation. Not that I think Cauterize would be your thing, but I'm guessing you've probably heard about a minute sample somewhere once and made your decision about them... as with most your modern rock assessments, I'm guessing. ;)

See.

The song is actually pretty great, with an amazing vocal...but it is more of a classic rock style which is why you dont like it.

The reason why this band is huge is that the general populace love this style of music.

Simple as that.

Not impressed with the second track either! Bummer! I'm still hoping the rest is better, but so far I'm not really liking it.

Nope, I downloaded an album you were raving about several years back and made it through four songs. Then I thanked God I didn't actually spend money on it ;)

Yep, second track is crap.

Crap is slightly harsh lol.

But yeah neither song is anywhere near the quality of their last 2 albums.

I actually thought the first track showed a bit more fire than about 90% of the stuff on their last album, which I was not really a fan of. The second track, well, it's just crap. ;)

To be honest the whole modern genre has taken a turn for the worse.

5 years ago i bought a fair bit of modern rock but this year the only release worth anything is Destine, but even they have called it a day now.

Not worth these bands continuing - they get their crowdfunding from the die hard fans then as soon as the album is finished its leaked on the net and every twat proceeds to download it for free.

Soon there will be no up and coming new bands.

You should tell your co-workers about them... they seem to be the only people left in the world still buying CDs. ;)

Anyway, I agree the modern rock scene isn't what it used to be only a few years ago, but there's still good bands out there. I've heard some nice ones this year and can assure you that Shinedown, which y'all will rave about, will be eclipsed many times over if you try a few others...

    • Kickin' riff. This is a cool tune indeed. New album sounding promising.
    • Doesn't do much for me. Not sure it's any better than what I've heard from the new BJ album... but I guess it's not too bad. Wouldn't play it again, though.
    • Bit 50/50 on it, myself. I prefer the stuff on Mick's solo album, but it's not a bad song. That kind of solo in a Motley song definitely sticks out... but not in a bad way. It's cool. I dig.
    • Did they actually break up? They were releasing albums annually and finally fixed up the production end but haven't heard from them for a while now. Always loved everything they released, personally.  Edit - yeah, 'Be Here' from 2020 seems to be the last album. Allegedly still active, but obviously no recent albums. Would love to hear them add to the discography.
    • Released back in 2019 on vinyl only in most of the world, the only place it could be purchased on CD was Japan. It is finally available on CD to the rest of the world with the addition of two bonus tracks. One is the usual "bonus" track of a live recording of Go man go, and the other is the song Don't give up which was released at the start of the pandemic as a single. https://townsendmusic.store/product/140275?lf=035f179d9c80928d2d3b155fa72b0731 Follow the breadcrumbs to a sonic treasure trove with Alice Cooper's "Breadcrumbs" EP, which will be available on CD for the first time ever, featuring additional bonus tracks on this edition! Originally released in 2019 as a limited-edition 10" vinyl record, "Breadcrumbs" is a tribute to the garage rock heroes of Alice Cooper's hometown of Detroit. The EP features six tracks that showcase Cooper's raw and energetic take on classic Detroit tunes, including Suzi Quatro's "Your Mama Won't Like Me", Bob Seger's "East Side Story", and the MC5's "Sister Anne". It also includes the two additional bonus tracks "Don’t Give Up", conveying Cooper’s message of hope and perseverance to his fans during the COVID-19 pandemic, and a live version of "Go Man Go" from his electrifying set at Hellfest 2022. The album featured a star-studded lineup of Detroit musicians, including Wayne Kramer of the MC5, Johnny "Bee" Badanjek of the Detroit Wheels, and Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad. "Breadcrumbs" marked the beginning of Alice Cooper's homecoming, a journey that culminated in the critically acclaimed studio album "Detroit Stories", released in 2020. This EP served as a taste of Cooper's profound affection for his hometown's rich musical heritage, making it an essential addition for any devoted fan of the shock rock icon.   1. Detroit City 2020 2. Go Man Go 3. East Side Story 4. Your Mama Won't Like Me 5. Devil With A Blue Dress On / Chains Of Love 6. Sister Anne 7. Don't Give Up (Bonus Track) 8. Go Man Go (Live At Hellfest 2022) (Bonus Track)
    • New song "Summerlovin" feat. Olli Herman, me likey...
    • Pretty awesome! I often fantasize about starting an AOR, but I know nothing about making music.
    • Not gonna lie, I kind of like it. Hardly classic Crue, more like something that would have appeared on the Corabi-fronted self-titled album, but it's not bad for an oldschool band trying a modern hard rock song. That being said, I expect my opinion to be a lonely one, and I understand why fans are dogging on it...
