Really good melodic metal for 1997. New Jerusalem from their self-titled album.

From way back in 1984, Steve Camp released the Lite AOR album Fire and Ice.

AOR from 2005, the band is Cry Holy and this song is the title track to the album AlieNation. I think AOR fans would love this track.

What a cool thread! The next one should be something by The Violet Burning

From the Violet Burning's brief period in the mainstream. This song is from their self-titled album in 1996. Alternative rock with plenty of distortion.

Definitely one of the better modern Christian rock bands out there and this might very well be their best song.

Michael W Smith released an AOR album (his only rock album) in 1986 that featured (you guessed it) Dan Huff ripping it up on guitar. This is from The Big Picture.

His only rock album? You don't consider "I 2 (Eye)" to be rock as well? I always considered these two back-to-back albums to be Smitty's rock phase. Frankly, I wish he'd go back to this sound...

Yeah but he followed the crowd and I don't know what Christian is supposed to sound like but for some reason it has a genre??? Like it is all supposed to sound the same???? Idk

So he went for that anyway and it sounds absolutely awful

I have I 2 eye but to me it was half rock half where he'd become.

I agree. It's not a genre. I mean if a bloke's doing your plumbing and then you find out he is a Christian does that make him a Christian plumber?

The only difference is lyrics and the way albums were distributed. But if different forms of distribution are an issue then why isn't "mailorder" or "download" a genre?

Back in 1988 Novella released this version of the song Running Home on the excellent Axemen compilation. It is superior to the later album version, in my opinion.

    • Yeah I guess it’s a little different for physical CD collectors, but even still, stuff can happen in four weeks. In the world of streaming, especially, there could still be half a dozen notable albums to come this year. I don’t know what they could be as I keep no track at all of upcoming albums, so I never know what’s still to come, which could be anything.    I guess if you’re a meticulous planner and are fully aware of every single new release you might be interested in, and there’s no more due this year - which is probably exactly what this Brendan dude is - no harm in releasing the list.
    • She came out with in New Romantic era, like Adam and the Ants, Duran Duran Her father, Marty, had big hits in early sixties
    • I think I pretty much have my top ten list, but seeing as I have been tracking it through the year rather than leaving it to the end as normal, I am not sure it will change being that I don't really have more purchases lined up. But being that this year I have really gone wild on filling back catalogue gaps, I may pick up something I missed from this year and that will upset the apple cart ha ha
    • Whoah this is catchy!
    • Calling for you, Emaheeval & Gone bad on the debut Widowmaker album were all Desperado songs. Of course the Widowmaker debut was released before Desperado's album finally got a release even though it was recorded after. The thing that always made me laugh was that when it was first released as Bloodied but unbowed with three extra tracks to what was the original planned tracklist, I bought it from Dee Sniders website, so was fully endorsed by Dee. But years later when Deadline released it under its original name, Ace, without the three extra songs, Dee claimed it had never been released before ... selective memory?

    • Did not have "liking an album from The Offspring" on my 2024 bingo card, but there we are. Not sure if it's pop, punk, or something else... catchy though.
    • No no no!  Worst thing in the 80s (musicwise), Modern Talking.
    • Really liking this one bar the Journey cover, which whilst not terrible , doesn’t really do a lot for me. The rest though is rather excellent
