Tearjerkers

I'm ready for the jibes so here goes.

There are several songs (perhaps a few too many), mostly older mainstream, that i struggle to listen to without tearing up a bit.

Music (especially our type of music) can illicit many emotions including joy, anger, confidence, fear and of course sadness.

I know fans of our music and the people who have found their way to this site feel a real emotional connection to the it and it's hard not to be moved by some of the beautiful ballads.

It's usually when the music, lyrics and time of the first listen combine with a memory of some significant sad event or feeling that does it.

A couple of AOR/Hardrock songs that get me everytime are,

Europe - Tomorrow, and ironically

Guns n' Roses - Don't Cry (alt. Version)

Any of you guys have any tracks that hit an emotional nerve?

Well, you wanna get into it?

This song always did it for me, as I always felt it was about me.

This one, too. The lines:

"And as our season grew

The time came when I knew

My path lead from among my band of brothers

And I can't describe

How hard it was

Or how much we loved each other"

Those words, I always thought those words would foreshadow that I would leave my group of friends. And, well, some shit happened last year, and I'm actually in a transition period in my life. So, it happened, just not the way I thought it would. But, yeah, I always knew it was gonna happen, so every time I listened to this song, it would hit me pretty hard.

That's what i was thinking. To me,

Europe - Talk to me and,

Steelhouse Lane - Seven Seas

are actually quite peppy and "feelgood", but as i said earlier it's all about the context.

That's the good thing about art (and that's what this music is), sometimes a "break up" song can be depressing or uplifting. It conjures up different feelings for different people......and by the way Karpet, thanks for sharing. That's exactly what i mean. How great would it be to be able to write a song that touches someone so deeply. Good on you mate.

This happens quite often, but I can never remember the songs when I think about it. One I know cause it happened last week is Ozzy's ''Mama I'm Coming Home''

The way it builds up just gets me everytime and when he starts singing right after the guitar solo I just lose it

Never actually literally shed a tear to a song, I don't think, but off the top of my head these have got me closest to it;

Actually, if you genuinely want to drop a tear, check this tune out. Excellent song;

Wow. That's a dark one.

I don't know if the lyrical content goes with the music. Musically it's borderline upbeat.

I like it. No real light and shade... other than vocally. Tells a moving story without much fanfare, but it's still great as a song too... imo.

This is my favourite song from them, which is pretty moving itself, though nowhere near as dark. But one of my favourite songs in the last few years;

"'Til the End of My Days" by Fear Not

I remember you mentioning this earlier. About you and your wife driving in silence once this song comes on. There must be a story there, because, while it's a great song, I just don't get the feels from it.

The arpeggios' outgassing just melts my brain, can't say if i'm crying or sweating....

Love Camel, especially when Latimer lets the guitar sing instead of his vox

Absolutely. What a great album that was. The last song "Ray of Hope" is another very sad ballad. If memory serves, he wrote it for his dying brother.

Funky......that wouldn't have been me. I don't think my wife has ever heard this song, and there would be no reason for her or I to sit in silence as it played. It has meaning to me, though.... :-)
