Seeking for new bands like HEAT and W.E.T

I just wanted to ask you guys could you recommend me some band that sounds like one of those bands mentioned in the subject, because I've become huge AOR fan in a past year, and I haven't found out any band that has perfect balance of melody, drums (this is the biggest request, because a lot of AOR bands I seeked for had some very very soft drums), vocals, basically every aspect of their songs is unbelievable... Thank you in advance...

I'm with you...I actually thought about making this same post yesterday.

I grew up a fan of the 80's scene, with Def Leppard being my favorite band and Hysteria being my favorite album of all time if I had to pick one. Also got into many of the other 80's bands like Crue, GNR, Bon Jovi, etc...They were all essentially melodic "Arena" rock IMO. For me, it's all about the harmonies, riffs, drums, hooks, layered vocals combined together with great production. However, I've also got to like the lead singer because there are quite a few bands I've tried to listen to that had many of the elements I mentioned but just didn't like the signer....Grand Design is one to comes to mind...Lots of good elements and Def Leppard style production....But the signer just doesn't do it for me.

I tend to like the slightly heavier side of AOR...But not the real hard or metal stuff....I just tend to shy away from stuff like Survivor, Journey, Toto, etc. I know it can be a fine line sometimes....

Anyways, I've taken a huge liking to H.e.a.t since Erik joined the band...They are falling right into my wheelhouse. Really enjoyed ATN and TDTW is pretty much exactly what I want to be listening to these days and is honestly one of my favorite albums since Def Leppard's Hysteria...

W.e.t is another band I've liked...Thought Rise Up was a pretty good album...But they didn't stick with me to the degree of H.e.a.t....I think I just prefer Erik's vocals over JSS...And find H.e.a.t's songs a little more interesting....More "hooks" or something...

I've searched around a little for some other hidden gems along the lines of those two bands and haven't really found it. I've tried Crazy Lixx...They're okay...I thought the New Religion album was actually pretty good....But didn't like Riot Avenue at all so sorta moved on from them.

I saw many raving reviews about Eclipse's latest album Bleed n Scream....Gave it a try and also didn't get into it. Great sound/style but just found myself not really caring much about the songs themselves...Too dark or political or something....

I've also gave bands like Treat, Harem Scarem, Hardcore Superstar, Crashdiet a try....Nothing really interested me. Frankly, I think I've gotten a bit picky these days and now find myself comparing everything to H.e.a.t....They are probably my new "measuring stick".

Have you listened to Trixter's newest album...New Audio Machine? I know they aren't European...But I really enjoyed that album when I didn't think that I would...Bit different than their earlier albums IMO....right in the ballpark of the type of melodic rock I like....Machine and Tattoos and Misery are a couple good tunes to check out...

I'll be interested to see some responses in this thread to see who others might suggest.....Perhaps people could suggest artists and some specific songs/albums to check out...

Thanks.

The new Sunstrike album is a lot like HEAT. But not quite as good. A lot of potential though.

Also I personally think work of arts last album is better than WET. their new album later in the year should be awesome.

You also may want to check out LEVERAGE which is another Finnish band similiar (same vocalist) as BROTHER FIRETRIBE.

Sounds like you guys are alot like me......very picky in my old age. I love melodic rock with layered sound, lots of killer harmonies, keys and an uptempo stride.

Another interesting band that has not seen much attention is one named DAYLIGHT ROBBERY. They have alot of the elements you describe.

Work of Art's "In Progress" is a must. Niva's "Magnitude" hasn't been mentioned, and I thought it was fairly solid. For some older albums check out Harem Scarem's "Mood Swings," Von Groove's debut, and Giant's "Last of the Runaways." And I could never leave this thread without mentioning one of my all-time favourites, "Shock to the System" by Wall of Silence. This is one of the earlier examples of that Heavy AOR sound.

Doing some fishing around tonight....Had never paid any attention to Adriangale before but I'm digging what I hear from the Sucker punch album....riffs, harmonies, great production...Obvious Leppard & 80's influences on this album....Have heard 4 tunes from the album and digging each of them....

Not sure about their earlier stuff but think this one is worth a shot for me :)

Yep, that's definitely their most consistent album.

I'm assuming you've heard of LoudLion, but if you have not, get on it. Def Leppard 2.0.

    • I think most people know my stance on these two. I love LA Guns and think Tracii is one of the best guitarists to come out of the hair metal scene, and while I like Stryper I have really gone off them due to Michaels compulsion to release new material every second Wednesday. I have not bought the last 2 or 3 Stryper albums, and a bunch of other stuff he is involved in because of this. Hell, didnt even pick the first Sunbomb album up til early this year and only then it was because I got it for £5 instead of the usual £13 to £15 that Frontiers CDs usually cost. That album did not impress me. Musically it was tight but Sweets vocals were pretty "meh", and sounds like they are gonna be even worse on this album. Have to agree to what has already been said, but I can barely even understand what he is singing. Now while I am fine with listening to foreign language songs, if a singers native tongue is English, I wanna be able to understand what he is singing. Fuck me, there are death metal bands out there easier to understand than this. If I didnt know the song title, I would think it was called I'm bating bulls yeah
    • That Sunbomb release was soo bad that I can't believe there's gonna be another one.
    • Computer generated Gene is now God of Thunder
    • Sorry, but those vocals are not good at all...

    • It’s not a “you” problem; I could barely make out a word while listening to “Unbreakable” last night. A lyric video is definitely necessary when listening to MS these days. Still, even not having a clue what he was singing for the most part, this is better than pretty much everything off the first Shitbomb album.
    • Enjoying this one, for defs their best release and they wear their influences firmly on their sleeves , mixing bands like Van Halen/Whitesnake/Treat/Pretty Maids/Magnum so whats not to like
    • I didn't make the connection until a couple of days ago. This is the previous group of Tobias from Nestor.
    • I miss the days when I could actually understand what Michael Sweet was singing.  Not sure if that's a "me" problem or a "Sweet" problem...
    • Lyric video for 'Unbreakable'.
