Jeff Hanneman passed away this morning due to Liver Failure

Slayer is devastated to inform that their bandmate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11AM this morning near his Southern California home. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed.

Such a bummer. I was just listening to Hell Awaits a bunch last week. Guess I'm bustin' out the rest of the vintage Slayer tonight for the ride to work in the morning.

The story of the spider bite was out there for a while but every time Kerry or Tom was asked about Jeff's return they never had to much to say and especially Kerry who acted like he hadn't talked to him in like a year. I wonder if the spider bite wasn't the only reason Jeff wasn't around the band anymore. I guess there will be an announcement very soon saying that Gary Holt is now a permanent member but i wonder what will happen with Exodus.....

 

Anyway yes this is very sad. Jeff has always stayed in the shadows with Kerry and to a lesser case Tom did most of the interviews and as far as I know Jeff never did interviews so there is not much info out there on him but he was a huge part of that band and I've seen many fans say that since Jeff stopped writing as much and Kerry took control of the band they didn't like Slayer as much.

RIP Jeff, lesson learned that you have to keep track of your medical record at least once or twice each year because you never know when it comes to liver, heart, brain, or anything, and 49 is just way too young, sad day indeed

I agree, there probably were other factors going on here. Regardless, much like Leykis says, this just sucks. Jeff was a true metal legend that stuck to his guns and always gave the fans what they wanted....SLAYER! As a slayer fan who has seen them live a few times, I really think my interest in any new Slayer will pass along with Jeff. RIP. :crying:

Yes, Jeff, you are surely already in the greenroom on the other side of STYX, you probably didn't even have time to get settled in as I am sure his Dark Lord is beyond ecstatic upon your arrival, I am sure he has already got you booked and ready to perform, and all your followers and fans who are lined up waiting for you to step out on stage and deliver to your legions, what they have loved you for, Jeff you are safe now in hell, where you can live on and take your eternal vows, and settle in right where we want you to be, waiting for us when we arrive there, and we can hear you play once again, RIP JEFF!

 

Now SLAYER!! will never die, they keep releasing better and better albums, sorry not an argument, if you are questioning if your going to buy the next Slayer album or not, then your not, because your not a fan, and you should just stick to the next Metallica when it comes out, cause it is what you want anyway, and probably what you deserve, LAY DOWN YOUR SOUL TO THE GODS ROCK N ROLL!!!!!

Yeah no shit, I have already had it out about that on Facebook, the fact that the lemmings who are probably led by 1 head lemming, are following the lead right off the side of the mountain, I believe they are so used to the familys of military men who died, that they r just skipping into this with their obese bodys, and their fanny packs with sharpies and cardboard, absolutely and completely blind and ignorant, to just what it is they are walking into, I know this feeling purely by experience, upon stumbling into their moshpit the very 1st time I saw them on Clash, the most hardcore pit I was ever in(I rate on injury's obtained) was a toss up between Pantera, and a straight edge hardcore group named Earth Crisis, I sustained life threatening injuries in both of these pits, that being said, I have seen Slayer 4 times live, been in their pit in 3, the amount of violence, and physical injuries I have witnessed during these concerts I can honestly say is not even close to another band I can think of, I watched this gigantic skin head dude, no shit about 6'6ft easily had to have gone at close to 300-323lbs, sit and fuck with this tiny little rocker dude, actually going out of his way to bully this little dude, by about the 5th Slayer song in, this scrawny little dude, with a gigantic black eye, and a bloody nose, fucking sprints towards this bully, leaps from about 5 feet away from him, and just blasts this dude, I am almost certain he was wearing a set of knuckles, or something cause all I saw in the silouhette was a couple teeth and blood shoot through the air, and this gigantic fucking bully went down so fast, and hit the pavement so hard that the little guy hadnt even turned back around from landing yet, and it was there 2 minutes into Criminally Insane, that Tom Araya had to kill the song, and direct everybody away so the medics could get to someone, well that someone was the fucking bully, and that bully not only had just been thrashed, that bully was not breathing, not responding to anything, and ended up being in the newspapers as he sustained significant brain damage, and basically ended his life from any social standpoint, of course the newspaper never discussed the fact this was a huge man, who was clearly targeting smaller weaker people, he probably didnt even know who Slayer was, he was just their to beat people up, anyways, I have witnessed more then a dozen incidents of this nature, and it was generally in Slayers mosh pits, this was just the most extreme example there is, Slayer fans aint no joke, they dont fuck around, and they certainly do not give a fuck about anybodys civil rights, or if they are breaking the law, they will go after those baptists, they will not let up, and somebody will be killed, the will put on a Public Display of Dismemberment and they will absolutely SPILL THE BLOOD!

Assuming they have the balls to actually show up (which they probably won't), the cops will probably relocate them to a site far away from the actual burial... for their own safety.

      I wonder what control they have over the releases? That have promoted the BMG individual releases. The 2009 reissues were by original label, EMI. And this boxset seems weird being issued by Cherry Red. And I have not seen the bands social media promote it at all. I wonder if the reason the BMG ones were lacking in the bonus tracks from the previous reissue was EMI holding onto the rights, but have now allowed Cherry Red to release them. I know EMI used to be the distributer for Cherry Red, so they may be more forthcoming with the material.

      I have been a Band Maid fan since their early days (2015) as I really don't mind foreign vocals as long as the music is great, but I always kinda avoided Babymetal as I saw a video of them once and really wasn't impressed with the kiddy vocals, so never gave them another chance. Fast forward to now and on the back of the collab with Electric Callboy I have decided to give them a go. I thought they had a huge discography as they have like 25 albums, but on closer inspection it is only four studio albums and 21 live albums. As I am not a fan of live albums anyway, I decided to buy the four studio albums as they are all quite cheap. Have to say there music is a mixed bag, but overall really enjoying a lot of it. Not sure if I just picked the wrong song to start with, or if it is just that I have adapted more due to getting into a lot of weird and wonderful foreign bands over the last few years, but I am glad I finally gave them a proper go. Have to say, if this song was sung in English I think they would have a lot of fans on here

      Another i'm still awaiting the arrival of...same day release/delivery my arse Amazon  Still this is sounding like their best release thus far...they are gaining and getting better...although I did enjoy the last few albums also...but the sound/production from this one is excellent.
