As someone who has never watched Top Gun and all its gay inuendos (yes, I have seen clips on youtube), I can honestly say I have never heard this theme.

 

First song I ever heard from it was the Berlin one, Take my breath away, which is the love song theme tune, by all accounts.

 

Later, I hear stuff like Mighty Wings by Cheap Trick and Dangerzone by Kenny Loggins, and its always been said that that is the theme tune of the movie.

The fact that that instrumental is called Top Gun ANTHEM, still leads me to believe that Dangerzone is still considered the theme tune.
