As we approach the end of the decade (2000-9) what do you think have been the best albums?

Here's my top 20 (MHR only...couldnt be bothered to do modern!)

1. Allen/Lande - The Battle

2. Threshold - Dead Reckoning

3. Harem Scarem - Higher

4. Pride Of Lions - s/t

5. Jim Jidhed - Full Circle

6. Journey - Revelation

7. Work Of Art - Artwork

8. Threshold - Subsurface

9. Harem Scarem - Weight Of The World

10. Gotthard - Lipservice

11. Jeff Scott Soto - Lost In The Translation

12. Loverboy - Just Gettin Started

13. Brother Firetribe - False Metal

14. Millenium - Hourglass

15. Masterplan - Aeronautics

16. Steel Panther - Feel The Steel

17. HEAT - s/t

18. Crazy Lixx - Loud Minority

19. Place Vendome - Streets Of Fire

20. Jorn - Worldchanger

Quite a few of those are from the last 3 or 4 years as the early 00's were a bit barren.

Be interested what your best albums are.

Cheers

I have listed a few from each year (sometimes 1, some years 3 or 4) for the last 8 years (not including this year so far), but they aren't in any specific order, just my fave 20. There were loads of other goodies aswell, so quite hard to have a defining list.

Some nice picks by the way Glen

Prisoner - Blind (2000)

Asia - Aura (2001)

Journey - Arrival (2001)

Saga - House Of Cards (2001)

Def Leppard - X (2002)

Gotthard - Human Zoo (2003)

Marillion - Marbles (2004)

Michael Sadler - Clear (2004)

Allen/Lande - The Battle (2005)

Frost* - Milliontown (2005)

Cheap Trick - Rockford (2006)

Spock's Beard - S/T (2006)

Toto - Falling In Between (2006)

Saga - 10,000 Days (2007)

Kim Mitchell - Ain't Life Amazing (2007)

Nightwish - Dark Passion Play (2007)

Elevener - When Kaleidoscopes Collide (2008)

Journey - Revelation (2008)

Pendragon - Pure (2008)

Work Of Art - Artwork (2008)

Yeah some nice picks....i need to check out the Prisoner and Michael Sadler as Ive not heard either of those.

On a side note 'Elevener' ?? Are you sure. I thought that was average at best. POL s/t slaughters that into oblivion. Just IMO of course ;-)

Def Leppard - X (2002)

Is this worst album of the decade?

Haha - You either Like or not for sure with 'X', as has been well documented. Yeah, it's poppy and nowhere near as good as the old stuff, but I like quite a few of the tunes (and still do) on it.

Looking back at 2002, there wasn't a lot of choice to be honest. Some good/ solid albums like Harem Scarem, Final Frontier and a handful of others, but not alot else of note.

Very sure mate - Elevener is one of my fave AOR discs in quite a while, and I much prefer it to the most of the POL stuff. I'm boring of Peterik's more recent stuff the more I hear it if truth be told. The Prisoner album has some great songs on it and Tommy D fantastic on it - good tuneage aswell. Don't like the processed drums too much though. Michael Sdler is very good, although I wouldn't say it may be a gamble for you, I may be wrong. Not like his old day job with Saga, although there is a smattering of Saga in there and It's a little more Mainstream in sound. Very varied throughout musically though, so some may take your fancy.

Good calls. I wanted to squeeze Newman and Harem Scarem in too, but just couldn't find that one album to include.

I purposefully left modern out.....would have been a few in there for sure. Surprised no Scarem in there for you?? Higher and WOTW are massive albums for me.

On a sidenote isnt Steelhouse '99?? Otherwise that would definitely make my list.

[also surprised no Hinder for you??!]

Nice list - but wrong! That RETURN album was absolutely stunning, but was also 1992 rather than 2002. Sorry. I liked the second URBAN TALE more than the debut too - great stuff.

I love it mate - flawless. Plus it was so original when I first heard it. "Dark Passion Play" is also an absolute monster of a disc, but was still just behind this - mainly because of the weak vocals.

Kind of but because it is 2009 and a decade is 10 years, anything from 1999 gets included in my list

    • Fuck me, he is off on one again: https://rockcelebrities.net/michael-sweet-stryper-is-the-most-hated-band-of-all-time/ Just a few comments that make me cringe: “We may very well be the most ‘hated’ band of all time but we’ve persevered and we’re still here. We are The Yellow & Black Attack. We are Stryper.” Now I am sure there are bigger bands out there who have more haters than Stryper ever had. Whether this is for right or wrong reasons, Nickleback, U2 and Coldplay spring to mind as bands that have got more hate than Stryper over the years, and they mostly ignore it because they choose to acknowledge the millions who do love them rather than cry about those that hate them. “When I listen to Stryper (as an outsider and as unbiased as I possibly can be) I can hear some pretty cool stuff going on. And at the risk of sounding egotistical, I think Oz and I are one of the better guitar duos to have cranked those Mesas up and harmonize in the studio and on stage. I don’t know, maybe I’m just dreaming and we do suck. Oh well, if this is what ‘sucking’ looks and sounds like, I’ll take it.” How can you ever listen to your own music as an unbiased outsider? The guy is blatantly so thin skinned that he just cannot accept some people just do not like his music, or do not like overly preachy christian music. I have said before on here, I really like Stryper and some of Michaels projects outside of the band, but I have had serious burn out on anything he releases just because he releases way too fucking much. And his attitude has seriously turned me off of supporting him. I have not bought the last few Stryper albums. There are a couple of solo albums I am missing. Didn't buy the last Sweet & Lynch. And I only bought the first Sunbomb when it was mega cheap recently. The quality is hit or miss, which I think is down to him going for quantity over quality.
    • Yeah will look forward to this also   £16 shipping!! I'll wait for a UK seller to stock
    • Another band that really is not the band it is pretending to be
    • There seems to be no other takers, so here's the solution highlighted.
    • Dodges Vs Diamondbacks. With this organist playing while car burns.
    • I quite like this album. Best songs for me are Straight Up Jack, Nobody Gets Out Alive and Southside of Hell.  Score: 4 out of 6.
    • New song 'Ghost In Me'.
    • This cd is listed twice as Heard It on the Radio - Volume 1 and Heard It on the Radio Volume 1 and with two different covers
    • Seems like it would be right up your alley. I'm enjoying the album immensely. French group.
