Vintage vinyl and terrific tapes...

Although Heavy Harmonies is of course a CD data base, there are plenty of great songs and bands that are only on vinyl and cassette. What are some classic bands or songs you would like to see on disc?

Speaking for myself, I would love to see a band called 3rd Stage Alert released on CD. Their five song EP was produced by Yngwie "J." Malmsteen. I've only heard one song, "Superstar". It's kind of a cross between 220 Volt and Rainbow, and the guitar solo is very European. I got the tune on a Metal Blade compilation CD that was included in a Heavy Metal record collector's book that has since been out of print, and the liner notes indicated that it was the only song ever released by the band on CD. Too bad if that's true, because it's a killer song.

Anyone ever heard this band? And do you have any others to add to the list?

I had the 3rd stage Alert on Tape, and I transfered to CD, it's

not bad, "Superstar" The song on Martin Popoff's Metal Guide ( as you mention)

is the Best song on the release...the rest being rather average.

I'm sorry to hear that. I had been looking for that EP, thinking that if the rest was like "Superstar" it would be worth having...thanks for the info.

I have a couple of cool vinyl Metallica bootlegs that I'd like to transfer to CD one of these fine days.

I'd also love to find American Noise. They had some songs on the radio in the Cleveland market when I was growing up, but I've never seen the LP anywhere, let alone a CD.

Some class items there my friend. Dedringer's 'Maxine' was a great all out guitar boogie along the Molly Hatchet lines. (Check out Taurus 'Paper Chaser' similar style -same era NWOBHM 1980)

Ref Robin George - Dnagerous music - this got reissued on sanctuary I think 3-4 yrs ago...with bonus trks.

you're da man, bro! a couple of days ago i was browsing the huge HH database and i found that some cheapo boots were added there. please somebody remove them. i always thought that HH was against these liars, leechers, scumbags, bastards etc etc etc.

for example the x-caliber-warriors of the night, was a bloody bootleg. and actually i know for a fact that this has been transfered to cd through some x-generation bloody tape made from the original vinyl( i know who gave it to "panos" in order to "release" it on cd)....

    • So some may remember that Tyketto toured recently and aside from Forever Young, I never delved into this band. So I did, so I'd know the songs in concert and was blown away. A great band with an awesome catalog that I had missed out on. To be fair, in the 80's it was a lot harder to access and find out about a lot of the more fringe bands, that's my excuse anyway. So I now am faced with digging deeper into some other bands I've overlooked. Some of these I gave a go, and wasn't really impressed, but now I'm starting fresh with an open mind. So below is a list of bands I have eitehr never bothered with, or never really gave a proper go. Lizzy Borden is on the list and I have done a bit of their stuff and like it a lot, so I will definately dig deeper into them (I've got some older stuff and some newer stuff, but have skipped quite a few albums) But the others, fire away, tell me which bands have killer material that I'll froth and how stppid I've been to skip them. • New song 'Chase The Sun'.
    • Super Sabre - Sugar and Spice *This is actually a full album, “Chasing the Rabbit”, with a complete band backstory included in the YT description. “Sugar and Spice” is the opening track…

    • I like the album art. I love when contemporary Glam Metal bands have album art with a genuine 80s vibe to it.
    • Nope, for a while, I used to think Rapunzel from Tangled (2010) was hot... But then I stopped being attracted to cartoon characters.
    • This is definitely the first time I've heard about it, I'll have to give it a listen!
