Vintage vinyl and terrific tapes...

Although Heavy Harmonies is of course a CD data base, there are plenty of great songs and bands that are only on vinyl and cassette. What are some classic bands or songs you would like to see on disc?

Speaking for myself, I would love to see a band called 3rd Stage Alert released on CD. Their five song EP was produced by Yngwie "J." Malmsteen. I've only heard one song, "Superstar". It's kind of a cross between 220 Volt and Rainbow, and the guitar solo is very European. I got the tune on a Metal Blade compilation CD that was included in a Heavy Metal record collector's book that has since been out of print, and the liner notes indicated that it was the only song ever released by the band on CD. Too bad if that's true, because it's a killer song.

Anyone ever heard this band? And do you have any others to add to the list?

I had the 3rd stage Alert on Tape, and I transfered to CD, it's

not bad, "Superstar" The song on Martin Popoff's Metal Guide ( as you mention)

is the Best song on the release...the rest being rather average.

I'm sorry to hear that. I had been looking for that EP, thinking that if the rest was like "Superstar" it would be worth having...thanks for the info.

I have a couple of cool vinyl Metallica bootlegs that I'd like to transfer to CD one of these fine days.

I'd also love to find American Noise. They had some songs on the radio in the Cleveland market when I was growing up, but I've never seen the LP anywhere, let alone a CD.

Some class items there my friend. Dedringer's 'Maxine' was a great all out guitar boogie along the Molly Hatchet lines. (Check out Taurus 'Paper Chaser' similar style -same era NWOBHM 1980)

Ref Robin George - Dnagerous music - this got reissued on sanctuary I think 3-4 yrs ago...with bonus trks.

you're da man, bro! a couple of days ago i was browsing the huge HH database and i found that some cheapo boots were added there. please somebody remove them. i always thought that HH was against these liars, leechers, scumbags, bastards etc etc etc.

for example the x-caliber-warriors of the night, was a bloody bootleg. and actually i know for a fact that this has been transfered to cd through some x-generation bloody tape made from the original vinyl( i know who gave it to "panos" in order to "release" it on cd)....

    • Haha, a couple of you guys keeping pretty quiet about changed minds on synthwave, after being pretty vocal about how terrible it is/was? I must say, I never got into the dark synth stuff like Dance With The Dead... more for the fact that I need vocals with the synthwave I really dig. I've actually heard a few dark synth bands this year I've passed on, with vocals, that I wonder if there'd be interest in here? Just gotta try to remember who they were...  As for the best of the year, not sure what to make of this year. There's an absolute tonne of good to very good albums, but when I look at the top end I'm not exactly blown away by any amazing albums. Good ones, and a lot of really excellent songs this year... but my highest rated album this year is 82%... which is a good album, but nothing looks like even threatening the 90% mark this year, which seems extremely unusual. The best of last year, for instance, seems a lot better than the best of this year. Still, I can't complain as there's been a lot of good music... just not as many great entire albums.
    • Another band ruined by frontiers.
    • Yeah, sad news. Even though she was a quiet achiever in that group with Stevie getting most of the attention, she sings Lead on two of my favourite "Fleetwood Mac" tracks. "Little Lies" is a Killer. R.I.P.
    • For me, "Run-D.M.C." in '88 on their "Tougher Than Leather" tour when I was 16. A bit left field, but I loved these guys in my early teens. They weren't afraid to embrace Hard Rock guitars in their music.
    • I was there too mate. You can't beat the atmosphere of a concert "in the round". I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often.
    • Keep a lid on it
    • This one looks like a fun ride....
    • I keep sticking with the band but my initial thoughts are that this is basically hookless. I sure hope this was just released as the first single cause it is loud and fast and isn't considered the best song on the upcoming album.
    • GENERATION LANDSLIDE (Cold Sweat / Lillian Axe members) – Ruling The Street Scene (2022) online sources · NOVEMBER 28, 2022     Comprising former members of both Cold Sweat and Lillian Axe, Las Vegas’ hard rockers GENERATION LANDSLIDE release their debut album ”Ruling The Street Scene”. Fronted by Anthony White, formerly of Cold Sweat and Cold Gin, GENERATION LANDSLIDE is a whirlwind of ’80s and early ’90s-influenced American-style melodic hard rock, complete with big hooks, singalong choruses and a feel-good vibe that continues throughout the entire ”Ruling The Street Scene”. Produced by White, the album kicks off with the ferocious ‘Little Miss Lonely’, then ‘Feel the Sensation’ follows with heavy gang vocals telling the story of finishing your day job and feeling the anticipation of going wild from seeing your favourite band in concert that night from a spiritual way. ‘Love and Pain’ relates the ups and downs in every relationship and the emptiness of being alone and ‘Are You Out There?’ is a tribute to the late Thin Lizzy bassist Phil Lynott. Highly Recommended   01 – Little Miss Lonely 02 – Feel the Sensation 03 – Nite Time Magic 04 – I’ll Keep Movin’ Along 05 – Love and Pain 06 – Are You out There 07 – Sweet Ellie May 08 – The City on the Edge of Forever 09 – Me in You 10 – Standing in the Rain Anthony White – lead vocals, lead guitar Sandy Stein – guitar Jonathon Swanson – bass Ken Koudelka – drums   BUY www.amazon.com/Ruling-Street-Scene-Generation-Landslide/dp/B0BFBV9HN2
