Wasn't a big fan until maybe 10 years ago. I knew alot of Styx tunes and all... but just never really gave them much thought. I saw them play a festival once, when DeYoung was still with them. I wasn't very close to the stage or anything and I remember the day was super hot. Then, while living in Vegas, my boss gave me front row seats to a Styx show at a small theatre in one of the casinos. What a great show. Ever since then I've been a pretty big fan. Strangely enough, I love the Cyclorama release. As I have mentioned before, I actually prefer Gowan over DeYoung.

I also love just about everything Tommy Shaw has done... I was into Tommy Shaw way before I was into Styx. Also love both Shaw/Blades releases. I've even seen them 4 or 5 times.

When I saw Styx for the one and only time a couple of years ago, Lawrence Gowan was excellent, still would have loved to have seen DeYoung!

Tommy Shaw is the main man for me, his solo stuff is good and most of his Styx stuff is my favourite by the band!

And you got to see them on the one tour I would have loved to have seen!

Still remember my dad saying how good the show was and telling me about the man sweeping up at the start, as part of the intro

The only Styx disc I have is PARADISE THEATER (actually, it's my wife's, not mine) and I spin that one occasionally. I was never a hardcore fan but I remember a lot of their classics getting mucho play in the early days of MTV so I have fond memories of that stuff.

The Styx episode of VH1's "Behind The Music" was fascinating and hilarious as well. (Tommy Shaw: "I just can't write songs about robots!")

Great band, been a fan since 'Grand Illusion', which is my favorite Styx album along with 'Pieces Of Eight'. Favorite songs....'Blue Collar Man', 'Renegade' and 'Suite Madame Blue'. Favorite members....no particular favorite.

Classic era, all great albums.

This band will always be one of my favourites as they are different to all others and I like that they have 3 singers, with Tommy and Dennis being the stars

Have you ever seen that VH1 show? It sounds like everything surrounding that album was a train wreck. "Kilroy" was apparently Dennis DeYoung's dream project and he kinda shanghaiied the entire band into doing it with him whether they wanted to or not!

Shaw cracks me up when he sez the worst show on the "Kilroy" tour was at some festival in Texas (or California, I forget) where they were headlining on top of all these hard rockin' bands (Sammy Hagar was mentioned, maybe even Van Halen, I don't remember) and it was 100 degrees outside, he sez the crowd was beaten up, tired, burning up in the sun, and he was dreading going out there because "I have to make a ten minute speech about robots before we even play a note, that crowd is going to eat me alive"

No, I`ve not seen the show mate but it`s something I would really enjoy watching!

Sounds really funny what Tommy was talking about, this just about brought to an end the classic Styx line up! :(

I like the album too, Robots and all

Don't listen to them much these days but during their peak with Equinox, Crystal Ball, Grand Illusion and Pieces of eight, they were one of my fav bands....they sort of lost me after Cornerstone which was a decent but not great release...

I know what you`re saying mate, there are quite a few bands that I had albums by and just went off, tastes changing etc.

Since being quite heavily involved in this forum, my interest has been rekindled from all the great posts I come across.

Maybe Styx will appeal to you again mate

Styx are great but I gotta say I wasn't keen on Brave New World - In fact everyting post Paradise Theater makes me go meh! Like Dead Planet I lost interest.

Never heard Cyclorama though.

Not really mate. Some good songs, and some great musicians (Tommy Shaw is the star man IMO), but not really my thing. "Edge of the Century" was their best album IMO - but it still had way too many ballads on it.

Styx was my wife's favorite band. We saw them twice. Once outdoors with Journey (with first Steve soundalike) and REO, and once by themselves in a casino. Both concerts were in the mid 2000s. At the casino concert, we were waiting outside to see if they would come out back. They ran quick to their tour bus, didn't say hello, or sign anything. A girl was next to my wife, my wife was telling her how much she liked Styx. The girl said she had two picks thrown to her by Tommy Shaw, and she gave my wife one of them.

At both Styx concerts they had autographed CDs out front for sale with the tshirts. I have the Cyclorama and the 2cd greatest hits autographed. That's the albums they were promoting at the time.

My favorite album is Paradise Theatre.

Favorite songs are the popular ones done by Tommy Shaw.
