  1. Fucking-A. Nothing I hate worse than getting a fucking press kit with the tags all fucked to hell and back.
  2. Mastedon: "It's a Jungle Out There" (on the iPod) Keel: s/t (on the computer) Hoobastank: "Fight or Flight" (in the truck)
  3. "Love That Will Survive" ~ Mastedon Still one of my favorite power ballads from the '80s Christian rock/metal scene.
  4. Latest acquisitions: James Christian: "Lay it All on Me" These Hearts: "Yours to Take" Skillet: "Rise" We As Human: s/t Colton Dixon: "A Messenger" Love Like Gravity: "EP" Pop Evil: "Onyx" Pretty Maids: "Motherland" Rev Theory: "Take 'Em Out EP" Sister Sin: "Dance of the Wicked" Ugly Kid Joe: "Stairway to Hell"
  5. Latest acquisitions: Django Unchained (Tarintino's best movie, IMO) Rogue (Unrated) Seed Drive
  6. These guys may hail from the land of kangaroos and Crocodile Dundee, but their sound is pure L.A. sleaze rock circa. 1989. To check out my review of Kill Shott's latest EP, click the link below: KIll Shott review If you like bands such as L.A. Guns, Santa Cruz, or just generally enjoy attitude-laced hair-metal with some sizzling axe-work, give these guys a shot.
  7. You know, despite the cheesy lyrics, that ain't half-bad for a country tune...
  8. Hey, gang, myself and Derric Miller (Managing Editor & P.R. guru over at Hardrock Haven) spent the last 6 months co-writing a 20,000 word novella called "Mudslingers," which is a heavy metal horror ride in the '80s splatterpunk tradition. It is now available on Amazon.com for the Kindle. It's already being endorsed by Ron Keel (who is actually narrating the audiobook version) and Steve Blaze (Lillian Axe). Rather than ramble on in my own words, here's the official synopsis: It's heavy metal horror when two rock journalists go head to head in a no holds barred disagreement about Beelzebub's Ballsack, a lyrically violent but wildly popular band. A venomous flame-war of insults and threats ensues and caught in the middle is a sensual Brazilian beauty named Sarita. Sex, hate, and insanity entwine in a trinity of violence as mudslinging turns to madness. Secrets are ripped from the shadows, skeletons come out of the closets, and hell is unleashed in an orgy of bloodlust and butchery in front of 20,000 screaming fans. This novella is a relentless rock 'n' roll rampage in the classic splatterpunk tradition. If you're interested in checking it out (it's only $1.99, and free for Amazon Prime members), here's the link: http://www.amazon.co...f_gw_p_t_1_ZD39 Thanks! Mark
  9. Yep, that worked like a charm. While you can get it for free over at Bandcamp, I tossed a few bucks the band's way, which I personally think is the right thing to do. The EP isn't going to make any Top 10 lists, but it's a pretty decent slab of that late '80s sleaze-rock sound.
  10. Even after I signed up for Soundcloud, it wouldn't let me download the EP. I tried a few different times, but no luck. Then I screamed obscenities at it for a few minutes. That didn't work either, so I gave up.
  11. They don't reinvent the wheel, but within the modern hard rock format, these guys are pretty good. To read my full review of Farewell 2 Fear: "New Blood" for Hardrock Haven, click the link below: http://hardrockhaven.net/online/2013/06/farewell-2-fear-new-blood-cd-review/ Hey, they do a hard rock remake of Rihanna's "Diamonds." How can you not at least check THAT out?
  12. Christmas has come early for hair/glam/sleaze fans. Click on the link below to cruise on over to Hardrock Haven and check out my full review of Santa Cruz: "Screaming For Adrenaline." http://hardrockhaven.net/online/2013/05/santa-cruz-screaming-for-adrenaline-cd-review/ One of the best examples of the neo-sleaze genre I've heard this year.
  13. Modern hard rock bands may be a dime a dozen these days, but Age of Days (formerly Age of Daze) are better than most, really nailing that Nickelback/Hinder/My Darkest Days sound & style. To check out my full review for Hardrock Haven, click the link below: http://hardrockhaven.net/online/2013/05/age-of-days-radioactivity-cd-review/ One of my favorite CDs I've heard this year in the modern rock genre.
  14. Actually, parts of it are really good. "Kings of Demolition" is fantastic and easily could have appeared on "Slave to the Grind" or "Subhuman Race." "Get Up" is pretty kickass as well, though it sounds like modern hard rock rather than a Skid Row tune. And "Let's Go" rocks out in fine fashion. It's only the ballad and the closing rocker that completely miss the mark. That said, any reviewer who compares this to their sophomore effort is delusional.
  15. Most recent acquisitions... Age of Days: "Radioactivity" Bobaflex: "Hell in My Heart" Bullet For My Valentine: "Temper Temper" Fair Warning: "Sundancer" Halo: "Halo" Halo: "Heaven Calling" Harem Scarem: "Hope" Rattleshake: "Rattleshake" Red: "Release the Panic" Rob Zombie: "Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor" Santa Cruz: "Screaming for Adrenaline" Skid Row: "United World Rebellion--Chapter One" Ugly Kid Joe: "Stairway to Hell"
  16. Latest DVD acquisitions... The A-Team (Unrated Extended Cut)--despite plenty o' action, I was kind of bored by this...a "whatever" movie to me. Law Abiding Citizen--a solid one-time watch that falls apart when the big "twist" is revealed. Implausable doesn't begin to cover it. Great court speech by Butler's character, though: "I'll bet you take it up the ass!"
  17. I have to ask the question...silver or cdr? My understanding is that this will POD (Print On Demand). In other words...CDR.
  18. Yeah, that whole EP thing is a bit of a head-scratcher. Not sure what they were thinking.
  19. This is one of the best songs, even though it sounds more like something Egypt Central would record than a Skid Row tune. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zg8nEaoY4nY
  20. Should the Skidsters just hang up their big guns already? Or is this new EP a return to form? Click the link below to check out my review of Skid Row: "United World Rebellion--Chapter One" over at Hardrock Haven: http://hardrockhaven.net/online/2013/05/skid-row-united-world-rebellion-chapter-one-cd-review/ For those who don't have the time to read a full review, I'll break it down thusly: one great song, two good songs, one lousy ballad, and one forgettable rocker.
  21. Love CJ's voice, love the heavy-but-polished sound this band brings to the table, and love all the singles they've released thus far...consider me stoked for the album!!
  22. They should be...that movie was awesome, as long as you like extremely gory films.
