  1. Wait, judging from the sound quality, I thought "The Savage Playground" WAS a collection of demos... Seriously, I was all over this. Ran to their site and prepared to get some "new" Crashdiet tunes. Then I saw the price. I"ll be damned if I'm spending $30 for a download of some demos.
  2. It's not. "Bite the Hand," "Spit It Out," and especially "Punched in the Gutz" are all better.
  3. Agree. I agree with your right to not consider this a true Tigertailz album--though personally I think there's plenty of that patented Tigertailz sound present--but I disagree that this is nothing special. I've been playing the hell out of this EP for several weeks now and love damn near every second of it. (Just posted my full review for Hardrock Haven up in the "Shout" section, by the way.)
  4. I think a lot o' folks thought this album--or EP, to be all technical--would be about as much fun as trying to give a starving lion a sponge bath. But don't get out the gutting knives just yet, 'cause this is surprisingly good. To check out my full review of the new Tigertailz: "Knives" EP for Hardrock Haven, click the link below: Tigertailz review I miss Kim Hooker's distinct vocals, but otherwise I'm digging the hell out of this.
  5. For the record, I never review an album by watching a music video. When I post a review here, I generally try to find a video from the album so people can sample and get a taste of what the music is like, but the reviews are only done by listening to the album.
  6. Eventually these guys were always going to make a great modern hard rock album, and they have finally done so. To check out my full review of Eve To Adam: "Locked & Loaded" for Hardrock Haven, click the link below: Eve To Adam review These guys have locked onto that Hinder/My Darkest Days/Pop Evil sound and pretty much nailed it.
  7. If you enjoy modern rock that straddles the fence between hard rock and metal--call it heavy hard rock--then you may want to check out Defy Tolerance. To read my full review for Hardrock Haven of their new album, "Stop the Bleeding," click the link below: Defy Tolerance review Heavy Harmonies' own David Tedder (manicego) does publicity for these guys.
  8. Hmmmmm ... I wonder if "Man in the Middle" is a remake of the Sure Conviction song. Be interested in hearing that. Well, actually, I'm interested in hearing the whole album. "All Stand Together" ranks among my all-time favorite Christian rock/metal albums.
  9. Were I to review this--and by the way, I'm willing to if you want to set something up--I would describe it as modern hard rock. Or, more precisely, female-fronted modern hard rock. Based solely on that single, they definitely have a "hard" edge, but I'm not sure I would use the word "heavy" to describe them. But yeah, as Dan said, solid stuff in the Halestorm vein. Be interested in hearing the rest of the album.
  10. There is no such thing as too much gratuitious blood.
  11. I believe most melodic rock fans will enjoy this latest album from Faith Circus. To check out my full review for Hardrock Haven, click the link below: Faith Circus review Bottom line, if you enjoy great vocals, good hooks, polished production, and some catchy songs, you need this album like a circus needs clowns. Not quite a mind-blower, but consistently high quality.
  12. Nobody likes to write a bad review for a band they like, but that's what I had to do with this latest album from Fair Warning. Click the link below to check out my full review for Hardrock Haven: Fair Warning review They've been rocking for 22 years now, and they are either getting tired, the creative spark has fled, or both.
  13. This is actually one of the better songs ... and it's nothing spectacular.
  14. James Christian proves that not even vocal gods are impervious to flaws. To check out my full review of the (moderately) disappointing new solo album, click the link below: James Christian review Bottom line, not a horrible album, but woefully average and certainly not helped by the mushy production.
  15. Well, well, well, what have we here? One of the best modern hard rock albums I've heard this year. To check out my full review of We As Human's full-length debut for Hardrock Haven, click the link below: WAH review Similar at times to Skillet, with some Breaking Benjamin thrown in there as well, all given the slick, beefy production by Howard Benson. Really good stuff if you like the commercial modern hard rock format.
  16. Here's short sampler which gives you a brief idea of their sound.
  17. Been praying for a modern metal band that doesn't use all those growls, screams, and breakdowns? Prey On The Fallen may be just what you're looking for. To read my full review for Hardrock Haven, click the link below: Prey On The Fallen review If you like that oldschool retro style combined with today's modern production aesthetics, you won't want to let this one fall by the wayside.
  18. Featuring ex-Vicious Rumours vocalist Brian O'Connor, this American heavy metal band sets out to prove that power-thrash ain't dead. To read my full review, click the link below: Deadlands review Maybe not the next great evolutionary step in the metal genre, but if you like bands such as Exodus, Testament, Heathen, Overkill, etc., these guys are worth checking out.
  19. And yet every time a Union attempts to organize the employees, they get voted down. Doesn't make sense.
  20. "The Passion of the Christ" My 3rd time watching this movie and it still retains its brutally emotional power. Naturally it resonates better with Christians, but I don't think you have to be a believer to be moved by this film. But as someone who believes He went through those hours of torture out of love for mankind, it hits hard. If you can sit through that scourging sequence without wincing, you're a better man than I.
