  1. This week I picked up... HEAVEN 11: "Baptism of Fire" JUDAS PRIEST: "Jugulator" ABUSEMENT PARK: "I Am Not What I've Been Taught" Hmmmm...kind of a slow week. Keep the faith. Mark
  2. Here's what recently passed through my CD player: LIAR: "While the City Sleeps" BALANCE OF POWER: "Perfect Balance" PILLAR: "Broken Down--The EP" WINGER: "In the Heart of the Young" ROCK CANDY: "Sucker for a Pretty Face" Keep the faith. Mark
  3. This past week saw the following CDs added to my collection: FRONTRUNNER: "Up-N-Cummin'" LAZARUS: "Bombz Away" ROCK CANDY: "Sucker for a Pretty Face" (CDR) SINN: "Jailbait" SKRAPE: "Up the Dose" Keep the faith. Mark
  4. Hey, B.C., "Seasons" is the only SEVENDUST CD I've heard, so I can't compare to the others, but this one kicks some pretty serious melodic nu-metal butt. It's produced by Butch Walker, so you know production sounds like a million bucks. Worth picking up in my opinion, if you don't mind the modern metal style. Keep the faith...and keep on rockin'!!! Mark
  5. I voted for CONCRETE JUNGLE, though I suspect if I heard all of ROCK CANDY's tunes I might give them the edge (anyone want to hook me up with a CDR?). I also think FRANCE: "Lay it on Me" kicks some serious ass (and that's probably the last time you'll hear anyone use the word "France" and "kicks ass" in the same sentence) with "Dangerous Waters" being an absolutely fantastic ballad. As always, just my two cents' worth. Keep the faith. Mark
  6. Here's what passed through my CD player today: SEVENDUST: "Seasons" BALANCE OF POWER: "Perfect Balance" THOMAS VIKSTROM: "If I Could Fly" LAST CRY: "In the Name of Love" Keep the faith. Mark
  7. Got LAWDY: "Outlaw Invasion" spinnin' today. No doubt about it, some of those 80s hair-metal bands really knew how to rock your socks off... Keep the faith. Mark
  8. Today I spun... PAUL LAINE: "Stick it in Your Ear" CHOLANE: "Black Box" KIDS IN THE WAY: "Safe From the Losing Fight" Keep the faith. Mark
  9. Here's what's been spinnin' in my CD player recently: 1. CRYSTAL BALL: "Helvetia" 2. FRANCE: "Lay it on Me" 3. BONFIRE: "Free" 4. KID SIN: "Kid Sin" 5. CYNICAL LIMIT: "Cynical Limit" Keep the faith. Mark
  10. Here's the last few to pass through my CD player: 1. BRIDE: "This Is It" 2. SILENT RAGE: "Still Alive" 3. BARREN CROSS: "Rattle Your Cage" 4. KID ROCK: "Devil Without a Cause" (don't hate me) 5. NICKELBACK: "The Long Road" Keep the faith. Mark
  11. Just finished spinning the new NICKELBACK: "The Long Road" CD...pretty much the same modern melodic rock sound of their previous album ("Silver Side Up") but with slightly better songs. Prior to that I checked out the new LIMP BIZKIT: "Results May Vary" CD, but I won't discuss that here, since I don't want to be crucified. And lest anyone think I've abandoned my love for true melodic hard rock, I also gave PRETTY MAIDS: "Planet Panic" a spin in my stereo this morning, along with MILLION: "Detonator" & HOUSE OF LORDS: "Sahara." Keep the faith. Mark
  12. Just finished spinning THE SCREAM CLAN: "Wasteland," which is some killer hard-edged sleaze-metal, guaranteed to send fans of Sledgehammer Ledge, Vamp Le Stat, etc. into orgiastic fits of pleasure. Keep the faith. Mark
  13. As I write this, "If That Ain't Love" by THE BRAVE is cranking from my stereo. Keep the faith. Mark
  14. Here's the last five CDs to pass through my player: 1. THE BRAVE: "Battle Cries" 2. WHITEHEART: "Tales of Wonder" 3. MICHAEL W. SMITH: "Change Your World" 4. PETRA: "Beyond Belief" 5. PRETTY MAIDS: "Carpe Diem" Keep the faith. Mark
  15. At this exact moment I'm listening to...absolutely nothing. However, a few minutes ago I spun EUROPE's "Bad Blood" from their excellent "Prisoners in Paradise" album. Prior to that it was "Salvation" off the brand new LAUDAMUS CD. (Excellent melodic metal, by the way...check it out if you haven't done so yet.) Now you know!!! Keep the faith. Mark
  16. One of the catchiest choruses I've ever heard is "Love Bomb Baby" by TIGERTAILZ. That song practically defines what a great glam-metal anthem should sound like. Monster hooks with shout-it-out gang backing vocals. Whenever I listen to that song, it sticks in my head for days. I guess you could call it taffy for your eardrums... Keep the faith. Mark
  17. Here's what's been spinning in my player the last few days... 1. DOKKEN: "Erase the Slate" 2. ALEX LALAS: "Ginger" 3. JACK PONTI PRESENTS: "Volume 1" 4. DISTURBANCE: "We Come Out at Night" 5. HARD LOVE: "14 Original Metal Ballads" Keep the faith. Mark
  18. OK, here's the last five CDs to pass through my stereo... 1. USM: "Silver Step Child" 2. CUT THROAT: s/t 3. BON JOVI: "Crossroads" 4. SILENT RAGE: "Shattered Hearts" 5. CRAAFT: "No Tricks Just Kicks" Keep the faith. Mark
  19. Well, if you think BON JOVI cares more about money than music, you may be right. However, BON JOVI has never strayed too far from his roots; every CD he's released (save for the "Young Guns II" soundtrack) has been firmly fixed in melodic rock territory. Even when grunge ruled the radio, Jon & company never jumped on that bandwagon and tried to cash in like so many other groups, which indicates he does care somewhat for the music he makes. Yes, I do consider PEARL JAM crap. In my opinion, they never wrote a single song worth listening to. Even as much as I loathe NIRVANA, at least a couple of their songs were tolerable. I didn't mean to start a big argument over the merits (or lack thereof) of PEARL JAM; as you said, this is all a matter of opinion. I don't need to provide rationale or logic for my position because my tastes are just that--mine. And yours are yours. I suppose we can applaud PEARL JAM for their anti-corporation stance, their rebelliousness, if you will, but when it comes to rock bands, the bottom line--at least for me--is this: are the songs good or not? This is where PEARL JAM fails. But again, that's just my opinion. I am a diehard melodic hard rock/metal fan, which means I love screaming guitars, instant hooks, powerhouse choruses, big backing vocals...things which PEARL JAM and their brethren pushed underground. Given my musical proclivities, it's only natural I dislike the band. I still find it amusing that you came to a melodic rock-oriented website and seem a little annoyed that we don't have broad tastes in music. For the record, while 98% of what I listen to falls into the classic melodic hard rock genre, I also occasionally listen to nu-breed, no-metal, and yes, even some rap-metal, on rare occasion. What I do not listen to is any of that Seattle stuff. But hey, that's just me. I'm sorry if you took any of this personally. This is a discussion forum and that's all we're doing--discussing. However, for the record, you did help initiate this little debate. You were not "attacked," as you so eloquently put it, simply because you posted that you were listening to PEARL JAM, you were "attacked" because you began that posting by ranting against BON JOVI. Yes, my friend, if you go back and look, you drew first blood. This board is all in the name of fun, but don't fire bullets unless you're ready to take some shots in return... Now, just to keep on-topic, here's what passed through my CD player today: DALTON: "Injection" ANGELICA: s/t THE ALMIGHTY: "Powertrippin'" BISS: "Joker in the Deck" POISON: "Hollyweird" Keep the faith. Mark
  20. You're right, it is hard to compare BON JOVI to PEARL JAM, because where BON JOVI is good and worth listening to, PEARL JAM is about as pleasurable as chugging down a crap-log. BON JOVI a sellout? Why, because they're popular?? Because they play halftime shows? That doesn't make them sellouts, it makes them wealthy. I'd ask if you'd label JADED HEART sellouts if they got invited to play a sporting event, but judging from your musical tastes, you probably consider JADED HEART a waste of time as well... There's no need for BON JOVI or any other melodic rock band to go "outside the box." When pop-metal bands head in new directions, we end up with garbage like WARRANT's "Belly to Belly." Ugh. No thank you. But tell me, how exactly did PEARL JAM break the mold? They were crap when they debuted, they were crap at the height of their career, and they're crap now, as far as I'm concerned. Maybe if they went outside the box, they'd actually release something good. Not likely, but hey, I believe in miracles... Listen, we're all entitled to our tastes and opinions and yes, even your opinion is welcomed here. It may make you a target, but that's the price you pay for coming to a melodic rock website and singing the praises of alternative junk like PEARL JAM. Now, in keeping with the original topic of this forum, here's the last five CDs that have passed through my player: BABYLON A.D.: "American Blitzkrieg" RUDE: "Touch It" DADDY DYNAMITE: "Looking For Trouble" BON JOVI: "The Red EP" AXXIS: "II" Keep the faith. Mark
  21. You're listening to PEARL JAM and calling BON JOVI crap? I'll take any commercial pop-metal band over sewer-sludge like PEARL JAM any day of the week and twice on Sundays. You're welcome to your opinion, but are you sure you came to the right site?? Just wonderin'... Keep the faith. Mark
  22. Not necessarily my top 5, but here's what's passed through my CD player in the last day or so: 1. AMERICAN HI-FI: s/t 2. ROB ZOMBIE: "Sinister Urge" 3. SHY: "Welcome to the Madhouse" 4. QUIET RIOT: "Alive and Well" 5. FARRCRY: "Mr. Red, White, Blue" Keep the faith. Mark
