DREDD How do this movie bomb at the box office? Awesome action movie loaded with bloody, bone-crushing violence. You want to know what fills me with dread? The fact that neutered PG-13 action films rake in the cash while hardcore R-rated action flicks like "Dredd" are ignored. Why? WHY?!!

That single can be summed up in one word: Awesome!!

Hmmmm...I thought it was better than "In10sity" and "Thunderdome" (not by much, mind you, as those are both good albums) but not as good as "Electrified" (their best album, IMO) and "Sonic Dynamite."

PC69 deliver another good'un with "Ceremonial." To check out my full review for Hardrock Haven, click on the link below: http://hardrockhaven.net/online/2013/01/pink-cream-69-ceremonial-cd-review/ This is one of those bands that rarely disappoints...and they haven't disappointed with this outing either. Some seriously good melodic hard rock happening here.

Power-pop/punk is kind of a tough genre to really nail, but these guys do a pretty decent job. To check out my full review of Static Fiction: "Static Fiction EP" over at Hardrock Haven, click the link below. http://hardrockhaven.net/online/2013/01/static-fiction-ep-cd-review/ Fans of bands like Sugarcult, Simple Plan, and Green Day should give these guys a listen.

How did 80's bands rate for you in 2012?

Expecting Geoff to make sense is like expecting a gun-ban advocate to join the NRA. That said, Geoff makes perfect sense when it comes to Van Halen... -
They started out glam, then went what they call "psycho glam," and now they are back with a new album that is decidedly heavier, more metallic, and sports awesome modern production. Check out my full review of Naughty Whisper: "Addicted to Decadence" by clicking on the link below and heading over to Hardrock Haven: http://hardrockhaven.net/online/2013/01/naughty-whisper-addicted-to-decadence-cd-review/ Take hard rock, metal, sleaze, glam, and a touch of goth and slather it in impeccable production and you've got the general idea.

Hmmm...I was not aware of that fact, as I used a promo download to do the review. But since the songs (the demos, I mean) aren't available anywhere else, wouldn't it be better to have them in CDR format than not have them at all? I understand not forking over for the Phoenix Down reissue, as that is available elsewhere as a regular silver-pressed CD, but if there are good songs that only exist on CDR (or digitally--those bonus tracks are available on iTunes), then I would never hesitate to snag them in whatever format was available.

Don't misunderstand me--I don't think the Crashdiet sounds "bad," but I don't think it sounds as well-produced as their previous releases. I thought the same thing about Crazy Lixx--I enjoyed the heck out of the album (it even made my Top 10 of 2012)--but it's production/engineering wasn't as good as their earlier stuff. But hey, like you said, maybe I'm just too fussy. I can assure you that the production on the Crashdiet is not nearly bad enough to ruin my enjoyment of the album.

I will refrain from listening but that comment scares me. Based on the lead single I am already nervous about a weak drum sound, which would totally kill this for me. I will wait for the CD, though, as I've got it pre-ordered anyway. Don't worry, I listened to the samples for you, and, well...be scared. They all sound the same as that lead single does. That said, these are just snippets from Amazon, so who knows how the good--or bad--the sonic quality of the actual release will be. Supposedly I should have my review copy from Frontiers in my hands shortly at which time I can provide a report on the production/engineering.

A reissue of Phoenix Down plus a bonus CD loaded with unreleased songs? What's not to like? Click the link below to check out my full review of Kane Roberts: "Unsung Radio." http://hardrockhaven.net/online/2012/12/kane-roberts-unsung-radio-cd-review/ The "new" songs "Wrong" and "One Step to Heaven" alone make this one worth purchasing, and the sound quality is pretty darn good for what are basically demos.

Harsh, but to each their own. Personally, while I can readily acknowledge that Pantera are/were the superior band musically, I actually enjoy the catchiness factor of THC more. Whether or not the band members are dicks or not, I cannot say--though word on the 'Net is that they're extremely friendly--but I can say that an artiist's demeanor has never been a factor in whether or not I liked their music. Asshole actors make movies I like, asshole musicians make albums I like...and I like this Texas Hippie Coalition album.

This will probably be of limited appeal to folks around here, but for what it's worth, you can check out my review of the new EP from the Christian melodic metalcore band My Heart To Fear by clicking on the link below and heading over to Hardrock Haven. http://hardrockhaven.net/online/2012/12/my-heart-to-fear-lost-between-brilliance-and-insanity-cd-review/ Heavy without being brutal, screamed vocals that are still (mostly) intelligible, clean-sung choruses that have a commercial edge, and some interesting use of synthesizers make this one of the more melodic metalcore albums I've heard lately.

If you're looking for some big, loud, rip-snortin' southern-fried metal, look no further than this latest album from Texas Hippie Coalition. To read my full review of "Peacemaker," head on over to Hardrock Haven by clicking the link below: http://hardrockhaven.net/online/2012/12/texas-hippie-coalition-peacemaker-cd-review/ If you enjoy bands like Hellyeah, you've gotta give these guys a listen.

Generally? So not always. Yes, "generally." My therapist has advised me to leave it at that...
